Homeless mom with dead baby maintains she didn't kill him
A devastated' homeless mother suspected of pushing her baby's lifeless, battered body around the city in a stroller while munching on Chicken McNuggets maintains she had no hand in his death - and investigators are inclined to believe her, several sources said.
An autopsy was being performed late yesterday afternoon on the 9-month-old son of Cynthia Simkins, 23, a client at Crittenton Hastings House in Brighton.
Bruises all over the baby's body are consistent with abuse,'' said Denise Monteiro, spokeswoman for the state Department of Social Services, but to what extent and for how long it had been going on was unclear.

Conley, declined to say whether detectives have any suspects in mind.
A 20-year-old woman who lived at Hastings House with Simkins said she looked like she cared' about her only child.
By the time an MBTA bus driver who had picked Simkins up in Mattapan Square on Thursday afternoon noticed the baby was not breathing, it was too late. Sources said Simkins may have unwittingly wheeled her dead tot around for up to two hours bundled in a blanket before trying to get to a doctor.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the 43-year-old bus driver, a mother herself, is terribly distraught'' and has taken an indefinite leave from her job of seven years while she deals with this.''
DSS is offering Simkins, who sources said is drug-addicted, counseling and money to bury her baby. In the meantime, Monteiro said, We're trying to figure out what happened in the hours after the abuse up to when she got on the bus
