Woman accused of cutting ex-boyfriend over cell phone use by Ray Rivera
WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -
A 50-year-old woman is accused of jabbing a knife into her ex-boyfriend's chest over his cell phone use.
The Charleston Police Department charged Demetria Montgomery with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
On Sunday afternoon, police responded to an apartment on William Kennerty Drive in reference to an assault involving a knife. When officers arrived, they found Montgomery outside of the apartment and the 52-year-old victim inside the home.
The victim said he and Montgomery had been dating and living together for about four years, however for the past 2 to 3 months they had broken up and were still living together.
According to the victim, the incident started when he was on the couch, and Montgomery walked out of her bedroom and started to argue with him about speaking to other women on his cell phone.
The victim said he did not want to argue, so he started to pack up his clothes in an effort to leave the home. A police report states Montgomery started to push the victim and hit him while screaming,"You're not leaving!"
Police say as the victim continued to pack, Montgomery grabbed a kitchen knife and "jabbed" it at the victim's chest area several times. The victim said as he was on the phone with police, Montgomery kept screaming that she was going to hurt herself.
Montgomery told investigators that while they were in a verbal argument, the victim kicked her in the crotch area. Police say Montgomery did appear to have a minor bruise on her right thigh. Montgomery said she then grabbed the knife to defend herself.
When Montgomery was asked about the cuts to the victim's chest, Montgomery said she may have poked him with the knife a couple of times but "was not sure."
Authorities say they removed a 6-inch kitchen knife from the crime scene. According to investigators, both the victim and the suspect refused EMS treatment, and all injuries appeared to be minor.
Montgomery was taken into custody and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
