Durham Man Arrested In Alamance County For Trying To Meet With Minor, Deputies Say

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. -- A Durham man was arrested Thursday in Alamance County after he attempted to meet with a minor he had solicited over the internet, Alamance County Sheriff's Department spokesman Terry Jones said.

Shabab Hassan, 22, was arrested just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Interstate 40 and N.C. 54. Marijuana was also discovered with Hassan at the time of his arrest, Jones said.

The investigation was conducted by
the fraud/computer forensic investigative section of the Sheriff's Department. A series of computer-related criminal investigations led to the allegations against Hassan, Jones said.

Hassan was initially charged with solicitation of a minor by computer for an unlawful sex act and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. After further investigation, he was also charged with dissemination of obscene material by computer, Jones said.

Hassan was placed in the Alamance County Jail on a $12,500 bond.
