About a dozen police and a police helicopter turned up at a south Auckland high school after a fight broke out.
School staff called police to Aorere College in Manukau about 1.20pm on Friday, northern police communications Inspector Kerry Watson told NZ Newswire.
One person was injured in the fight on the school field which was initially thought to involve a lot of students.
However, the field was crowded because it was lunch time, Insp Watson said.
"I don't think it was that many people."
About 11 police and a helicopter attended, he said.
Helicopters are used for incidents such as this to provide additional information about what is happening, Insp Watson said.
He did not know how badly injured the person was.

Police are working with staff at Auckland's Aorere College to investigate a fight which broke out yesterday afternoon.
One pupil received minor injuries in the yard fight which involved about ten pupils.
Sergent Dan Weir says teachers at the school were on to it really quickly and dealt with it really well.
"The key instigator was identified by police and we're working together with the school to investigate the matter fully and try and stop or prevent this thing from happening again in the future."
