Davonte Barnes Charged In Mass Shooting Outside NW Miami-Dade Banquet Hall​

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police have made their first arrest in the mass shooting outside a northwest Miami-Dade banquet hall over the Memorial Day weekend.

Davonte Barnes, 22, faces three counts of first-degree murder and 20 counts of attempted murder.


Barnes, who was arrested Thursday night, acted as a suspected lookout for the gunmen outside the El Mula Banquet Hall at 7630 Northwest 186th Street, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

He was denied bond at a hearing Friday morning.

Desmond Owens, 26, Clayton Dillard III, 26, and Shaniqua Peterson, 32, were killed and nearly two dozen others were hurt in the May 30th mass shooting, which happened outside the hall where a crowd had gathered for a rap show.

Miami-Dade said the shooting was a coordinated attack that involved two vehicles and at least five gunmen.

Police have made a second arrest in connection with a mass shooting at a northwest Miami-Dade banquet hall that left three people dead and 20 injured in May.

20-year-old Warneric Buckner was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of first degree murder and 20 counts of attempted first degree murder from the May 30th incident.

According to an arrest report, Buckner identified himself as the front right passenger in the Nissan Pathfinder caught on camera as being at the scene of the shooting.

Buckner said he aimed a large firearm and fired into a crowd of people, but could not recall how many shots he fired.
