GLENDALE, Ariz. — People inside a Glendale jewelry store had a dangerous encounter Wednesday night with a group of alleged robbers who held them at gunpoint.

Officers were called out to the Jared jewelry store near 75th Avenue and Bell Road just before 7 p.m. for a reported robbery, according to the Glendale Police Department.

When officers got to the scene, police said they discovered that the four suspects were still in the middle of robbing the store, and officers from Glendale and Peoria set up a perimeter around the building.

One of the suspects flashed a gun at workers and customers and threatened them against trying to escape, according to police.

At some point, police say the suspects tried to flee in different directions with the stolen cash and jewelry, but officers were able to detain all of them.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.

Nine people were inside the store when the robbery occurred, police said. Some were zip-tied during the ordeal.

No victims reported any physical injuries and police recovered $1.5 million worth of items.

PHOENIX – Four men were arrested after robbing a Glendale jewelry store during business hours Wednesday night and taking more than $1.5 million worth of items, authorities said.
Garry Wayne Freeny, Monta Lamont Harris, Deandre Donte Haven and Kenneth Ray Walton Jr. face various felony charges in the robbery where nine people were held hostage.
The monetary value of the items may increase to $2 million as detectives were still taking inventory, the Glendale Police Department said in a press release on Thursday.

A person called 911 around 7 p.m. and told authorities the men were armed and held both store employees and customers at gunpoint in the Jared at Arrowhead Towne Center near Bell Road and 75th Avenue.
The caller added the men tied some people up using zip ties.
The men then took jewelry from the store and personal items from the victims before fleeing as officers arrived.
Three of the men ran out the front door and the fourth ran out the back, authorities said, but each was captured.
No victims reported any physical injuries.
