A reconstruction of the events showed that a blue-eyed Swede from Gothenburg was riding a tram with friends in the early morning hours (Saturday night to Sunday). From the Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen stop onwards, she was left alone. She stepped out of the tram near her home in Hisingen. Normally, this has never been a problem, as Sweden has always been considered a safe country.

But on the tram was also 23-year-old black Ephrem Tadele Yohannes, an immigrant from Ethiopia who had lived in the United States for some time. The tram driver later said Ephrem was visibly harassing Elin, it was obvious she was uncomfortable, and that after getting off the tram he went after her.

Elin did not come home, the next day she was found in a wooded area not far from the tram station. Police and forensics were horrified, and the black man was arrested the same day.
The Ethiopian claimed that he has heard screams and went to see what was going on. He was supposed to see two strangers rape a woman, but it soon turned out he was lying. Forensics found Elin’s DNA on his dress and his DNA on Elin’s body.

An autopsy showed that the Swede first suffered a blow to the head. She was then raped and strangled by an Ethiopian. Even if she survived, the injuries were so severe that she would feel the consequences for a lifetime. Above all, she could not have children because the rape of a black man was so brutal.
After the rape, he dragged her across the forest floor. The reckless man let her lie naked from the waist down with her legs spread, then rolled a rock of 85 kilograms onto her head and chest.
