Athens man arrested for shooting victim in leg at bus stop during fight over food

CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. – On February 8th, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Lakeside Drive. Responding officers located a victim with a single shot to the leg at a bus stop at this location.
Officers rendered life-saving efforts, including a tourniquet to the victim’s leg. The victim was then transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
The investigation determined there was a dispute over food at a nearby apartment. The dispute relocated to a bus stop in the complex and escalated to a physical altercation.
During the altercation, a firearm was brandished and the victim received a gunshot to the upper thigh.
Douglas Barnett, 25 of Athens, Ga was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
