An Amazon delivery driver was taken for a wild ride Thursday after his Amazon van was carjacked while he was inside, officials said.
Rodriguez eventually got the van stuck on train tracks.FacebookTwo Paterson police officers were responding to a call at around 3:30 p.m. when they spotted an Amazon driver frantically trying to escape out of the passenger side door as the van blew a stop sign, Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale told local outlets.
When the driver spotted the cops, he began waving at them to show his distress while the officers tried to pull the van over, Speziale said.
The driver, 37-year-old Rafael Rodriguez, floored the gas and led cops on a chase until he made a turn onto freight train tracks where the van got stuck.
Police said Rodriguez tried fleeing on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers. He was processed and taken to the Passaic County Jail.
The Amazon driver was not identified.
“These officers are endowed with the necessary skills of good police officers,” Speziale told the Daily Voice. “They quickly recognized the situation for what it was, rescued the driver and took the suspect into custody without further incident.”
Rodriguez was arrested after abandoning the van and attempting to flee by foot.FacebookTrains were delayed while authorities worked to remove the van.
