Police investigating homicide after two people shot in southwest Birmingham​


A person of interest was taken into custody.​

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide after two people were shot Tuesday night.
It happened just before 9 p.m. near the 900 block of 25th Street Southwest; police say two people, a man and a woman, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Jarvis Jerome Conley, Jr., 24, of Birmingham, was pronounced dead at the scene while the female victim, who was said to be seriously injured, was taken to an area hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Police believe the victims went to that location and met someone that one of them knew. They got into a verbal argument, and shots were fired, hitting them.
A heavy police presence remained in the area as police believed the suspect was still nearby. Officers located a person of interest outside a home who was taken into custody for questioning.
The DA's office will determine if charges will be filed.
