MPD: Teen leads officers on police chase in stolen car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old was arrested this weekend after allegedly leading Memphis Police on a chase in a stolen Toyota.

On Saturday at 6:35 p.m., officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Mobil Gas Station located in the 800 block of S. Third Street.
The victim told officers that two male suspects approached her as she was putting air in the tire of her Toyota Highlander.
She said that she was struck in the head with a handgun before the suspects took her money, wallet and iPhone 15 and fled the scene in her vehicle.
She described one of the suspects responsible as a man wearing a black ski mask, a white hoodie, white pants and black shoes who was armed with a handgun.
At 6:45 p.m., a broadcast was issued from the scene regarding the description of the suspects responsible for the armed robbery.
At 7:05 p.m., officers saw a black Toyota Highlander known to be stolen during an armed robbery.

A traffic stop was initiated and the driver of the Toyota refused to stop for police and a vehicle pursuit was initiated near Warren St. and E Alcy Rd.
The pursuit continued as the driver of the Toyota allegedly acted with “wanton disregard” for the safety of other motorists while disregarding several stop signs and traffic signals, driving at a high rate of speed before striking a utility pole, a mailbox and an unoccupied vehicle.
Officers saw the male driver, wearing all-white exit the Toyota Highlander and flee on foot before being apprehended.
He was identified as Martavn Wilson.
Wilson has been charged with carjacking, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, aggravated robbery, intentionally evading in an auto, evading arrest and reckless driving.
