As gun ownership spikes among women, strict new law outlaws popular AR-15 style rifles​

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – A firearms instructor slammed Washington state's new "assault weapons" ban as discriminatory against women because it outlaws one of the most popular rifle models: the AR-15.
"For a lot of women, it's taken away the personal protection option of choice that works best for them," Jane Milhans of the Washington State Rifle and Pistol Association told Fox News. "So the law is clearly discriminating against women."

WASHINGTON GOV SIGNS BIG GUN CONTROL PACKAGE, INCLUDING 'ASSAULT WEAPONS' BAN: 'NO ONE NEEDS AN AR-15'
Gov. Jay Inslee signed a package of gun control bills into law last month, including House Bill 1240. The law immediately banned the manufacture, sale and import of dozens of semiautomatic rifle models in Washington with the goal of preventing mass shootings.
"No one needs an AR-15 to protect your family," Inslee said before signing the bill into law. "You only need it to kill other families."
Milhans disagreed, arguing that AR-15 style guns are the most popular rifles among women because of their female-friendly features like a stock that can be adjusted to fit smaller frames. They also have less recoil than many other rifles or shotguns.
"So it makes it safer for a woman, both in a home defense situation or if they're shooting on a rifle league or something like that," she said.
Women are one of the fastest-growing groups of gun owners. And while handguns are the most popular firearm, rifles are a close second, according to the Pew Research Center. More than 60% of gun owners surveyed said they had a rifle, and AR-15s consistently lead the category in sales.

"What does AR-15 stand for?" Milhans asked her all-female firearms class near Tacoma, a question she poses to all new students.
The narrative around semiautomatic guns is full of "misconceptions," students in Milhans' class told Fox News.
"Everything in the news and media is making it sound like this is the most murderous weapon out there and this is what everyone's getting to kill our kids in school systems," said Jessica McCoy, who said she felt nervous around guns prior to the training session.
"These are not big, scary, automatic guns that are being banned in our state," Lisa Olson said. "The AR-15 is a semi-automatic. You could only send one bullet through at a time, and the public thinks otherwise it seems like."

Milhans said Washington's new gun laws target the wrong people.
"They're targeting us, the law-abiding firearm owners, instead of the criminals," she said. "Criminals will buy their rifles through black market drug deals, straw purchase, whatever illegal means. And so the law won't impact them."
"They're just continuing to disarm us," she said. "They want to take control. They're not educating the public accurately on what they are doing, and slowly they're taking away our rights."
Banning so-called "assault weapons" appears popular with American voters, though: A recent Fox News Poll found six in 10 favor banning "assault rifles" and semiautomatic weapons.
At the same time, only 43% of registered voters polled believe stricter gun laws will make the country safer, a nearly 10% decrease from 2016. The shift comes primarily from women, Republicans and independents.

Washington's HB 1240 is already facing numerous lawsuits, including from the NRA's lobbying arm, the Silent Majority Foundation, the Second Amendment Foundation and a coalition of gun stores, a firearms manufacturer and a former Olympic rifle shooting competitor.
Attorney General Bob Ferguson wrote that his office is "undefeated in court against the gun lobby" and plans "to keep that record intact." Ferguson announced his campaign for governor earlier this month.

Michigan Governor Signs Red Flag Legislation Despite the Fact It May Not Be Enforced​

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed red flag legislation into law Monday despite ongoing questions about whether it will enforced or, if enforced, how such enforcement would occur.
The Associated Press reported, “Over half of the state’s counties have passed resolutions declaring themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries,” and through those resolutions have made clear there will be no enforcement of laws that infringe on Second Amendment rights.
Additionally, a number of local sheriffs told the AP “that they won’t enforce the law if they don’t believe it’s constitutional.”
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) made clear that she intends the law to be enforced whether sheriffs agree or not: “For those who are in law enforcement who refuse to enforce these important orders, let me say this loudly and clearly: I will make certain that I find someone with jurisdiction who will enforce these orders.”
The Michigan red flag law allows guns to be seized from an individual for a period of one year.
Breitbart News noted that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) signed a red flag law for his state on Friday, despite that fact that such a law has failed to end mass shootings in California and Colorado.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey reveals that a majority of Americans believe the media favors Democrats and is “truly the enemy of the people.” The survey was conducted May 16-18, 2023 from 1,002 U.S. likely voters.
The survey questions included:

1* Do you trust the political news you are getting?
2* Does news media coverage of politics generally tend to favor Democrats or Republicans? Or is political coverage in the news media mostly neutral and balanced?
3* Do you agree or disagree with this statement: The media are “truly the enemy of the people”?

The survey reveals 30% of likely voters say they trust the political news they are getting while 52% say they do not trust political news.

Several Democrat politicians have come forward vowing to hold the nation hostage by shutting down the U.S. government if Congress doesn’t pledge to send more tax money to the corrupt Western puppet Zelensky who is running Ukraine into the ground.

Democrat Senators Michael Bennet of Colorado and Cory Booker of New Jersey both hit the mainstream media circuit to scare Americans by claiming they’ll shut the entire government down if they don’t get more funding for Ukraine.


Bennet said he hopes it doesn’t come to that, but that he will “certainly be willing to shut the government down” if the GOP refuses to include Ukraine funding in the government funding bill.

Gun Sales Spike 200% in Maine After Tragic Mass Shooting​

Gun sales in Lewiston, Maine and the surrounding area spiked over 200% after a deadly mass shooting claimed the lives of 18 people and wounded over a dozen more.
Despite a shelter-in-place order being put in place in Lewiston, Maine, local gun shop owners were urged to open up their doors by community members who pleaded with them to open up shop.
According to Fox Business, Ryan Gagnon, who is a co-owner of 3 Cousins Firearms in Lewiston, reported, “Our sales were up, I would say, over 200% compared to a typical Friday.”

Another gun shop owner, Tony Lewis, shared that he did more business after the mass shooting than he did the entire month.

Lewis then explained the reason why residents of Maine were flocking to buy guns and it was because “People are scared.. So they want to make sure they can protect themselves.”

Per Fox Business:

Gun sales in the Lewiston, Maine, area spiked as much as 200% after Wednesday’s mass shooting that claimed at least 18 lives and injured 13 more, one store owner said.
“We were swamped yesterday,” Ryan Gagnon, co-owner of 3 Cousins Firearms in Lewiston and a Navy veteran, told Fox News Digital Saturday morning. “Our sales were up, I would say, over 200% compared to a typical Friday.”
They didn’t plan to open their store because of the shelter-in-place order that turned the city into a ghost town reminiscent of the COVID shutdowns. But Gagnon, whose shop about half a mile from one of the crime scenes, said they received so many messages and Facebook messages that they felt like they had to open the shop.

Pew Research reported in 2022 that 47% of residents in Maine are gun owners.
Residents in Lewiston, Maine and in the area nearby were able to breathe a sigh of relief after authorities found accused mass shooter Robert Card dead in a trailer parked in a Recycling Center’s overflow parking lot.
