RURAL HALL, N.C. — A 20-year-old Rural Hall man has been arrested and charged with felony murder after Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies said a late-night argument escalated into a fatal shooting.
On Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, shortly after midnight, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 200 block of Woodbriar Path in reference to a reported shooting. Deputies found the victim, Richard Aaron Davis Jr., a 43-year-old man from Rural Hall, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Davis was taken to a local hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
Investigators said their investigation determined an argument between Davis and the suspect, Demetrius Hart, turned into a physical altercation that led to Hart pulling a gun and shooting Davis.
Demetrius Lamont Hart Jr., a 20-year-old man from Rural Hall, was arrested and charged with one count of felony murder under N.C.G.S. 14-17. He is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond allowed. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 2, 2026, in Courtroom 205 of the Forsyth County Courthouse.
“The youth of today need to understand that guns and violent activity can have a lasting impact on their lives. Communities need to come together to teach our youth that love and respect have more power in their lives than violence,” Major Van C. Loveland-Stanley said.
