WASHINGTON — The Senate voted Thursday to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, endorsing the first Black woman on the high court and giving President Joe Biden a bipartisan endorsement for his historic pick.

While the roll call vote went along rather quickly, the end was delayed for several minutes because Sen. Rand Paul did not show up to vote.

Jackson watched the results of her confirmation vote at the White House with Biden. The vote was 53-47.

A 53-47 vote to cut off debate Thursday morning came hours before Jackson's expected confirmation.

Vice President Kamala Harris was present to preside, though her tie-breaking vote wasn't necessary. Three Republican senators previously said they would support Jackson, who would replace Justice Stephen Breyer when he retires this summer.

While the vote was far from the overwhelming bipartisan confirmations for Breyer and other justices in decades past, it was still a significant bipartisan accomplishment for Biden in the narrow 50-50 Senate after GOP senators aggressively worked to paint Jackson as too liberal and soft on crime.

“It will be a joyous day,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as he announced Thursday's vote late Wednesday evening. “Joyous for the Senate, joyous for the Supreme Court, joyous for America.”

Schumer said the final vote is expected to happen around 1:45 p.m. EDT, depending on how many members wish to speak on the matter.

Stephen Breyer

On January 27, 2022, Breyer and President Joe Biden announced Breyer's intention to retire from the Supreme Court.[3] On February 25, 2022, Biden nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson, a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and former law clerk of Breyer, to succeed him. [4] The Senate confirmed Jackson on April 7, 2022, by a vote of 53–47.[5] Breyer will remain on the Supreme Court until it goes into summer recess, sometime in late June or July 2022.[6]
Breyer was born on August 15, 1938, in San Francisco, California,[7] to Anne A. (née Roberts) and Irving Gerald Breyer.[8] Breyer's paternal great-grandfather emigrated from Romania to the United States, settling in Cleveland, where Breyer's grandfather was born.[9] Breyer was raised in a middle-class Jewish family. His father was a lawyer who served as legal counsel to the San Francisco Board of Education.[10]
Breyer's newest dissent on gun issues
In an interview on Fox News Sunday on December 12, 2010, Breyer said that based on the values and the historical record, the Founding Fathers of the United States never intended guns to go unregulated and that history supports his and the other dissenters' views in District of Columbia v. Heller. He summarized:
We're acting as judges. If we're going to decide everything on the basis of history—by the way, what is the scope of the right to keep and bear arms? Machine guns? Torpedoes? Handguns? Are you a sportsman? Do you like to shoot pistols at targets? Well, get on the subway and go to Maryland. There is no problem, I don't think, for anyone who really wants to have a gun.[81]

Breaking the Promise of Brown: The Resegregation of America's Schools Hardcover – April 19, 2022

by Stephen Breyer (Author),

“A decision the Court and the Nation will come to regret.”
Ten years ago, the United States Supreme Court struck down two local school board initiatives meant to reverse extreme racial segregation in public schools. The sharply divided 5-4 decision in Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District marked the end of an era of efforts by local authorities to fulfill the promise of racially integrated education envisioned by the Supreme Court in 1954 in Brown v. Board of Education. In a searing landmark dissent, Justice Stephen Breyer warned this was “a decision the Court and the Nation will come to regret.”
A decade later, the unabated resegregation of America’s schools continues to confirm Justice Breyer’s fears, as many schools and school districts across the country are more racially segregated today than they were in the late 1960s.
Edited and introduced by Justice Breyer’s former law clerk―and accompanied by a sobering update on the state of segregated schools in America today―this volume contains the full text of Justice Breyer’s most impassioned opinion, a dissent that Justice John Paul Stevens called at the time “eloquent and unanswerable.” The cautionary words of Justice Breyer should echo in classrooms across the country and in the hearts and minds of parents and schoolchildren everywhere.

Karine Jean-Pierre is the queer political trailblazer we need

When we think of LGBTQ representation in politics, different images may come to mind. More often than not, you think of the countless activists who’ve placed themselves at the forefront of the fight for queer and trans liberation. But when you think of political professionals, not many LGBTQ folks come to mind. That’s why Karine Jean-Pierre being the first Black, gay, immigrant woman to be Press Secretary for the White House is so monumental.

But the journey was a longtime coming. The daughter of Haitian parents, the Martinique-born, Queens, New York-raised Jean-Pierre started her road to politics after serendipitously watching former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan speak at the 1992 Democratic National Convention. And while she initially studied medicine, the future political powerhouse took a detour after college down the path of public affairs in graduate school.

That fateful detour took Jean-Pierre through various political positions, including being the campaign manager for ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Initiate (RFI), campaign manager for Letitia James’ successful campaign for New York City Public Advocate, and political director positions for former U.S. President Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaign. In 2016, she became the Chief Public Affairs Officer and national spokesperson during the presidential election for the [SOROS] organization MoveOn.
And while the world endured a long four years under the Trump Administration, Jean-Pierre continued to deliver the perspective and points needed for democracy to flourish as a lecturer at Columbia University and a political analyst for MSNBC and NBC News. But when the time came for a well-needed administrative change, Jean-Pierre shifted back into working on campaigns, this time for the Biden-Harris administration.

Jean-Pierre came in as a senior advisor in May 2020 and eventually became Chief of Staff for Vice President Kamala Harris. But Jean-Pierre’s talents proved to be useful as Principal Deputy Press Secretary, shifting into the role before ultimately succeeding Jen Psaki as the White House Press Secretary on May 13, 2021.

Jean-Pierre is the first gay woman to step into the position and the first Black woman to be in the role since 1991, an honor she doesn’t take lightly.

“I am a Black, gay, immigrant woman. The first of all three of those to hold this position”, she said at her first press briefing. “If it were not for generations of barrier-breaking people before me I would not be here. But I benefit from their sacrifices, I have learned from their excellence and I am forever grateful to them”.

From being named one of The Haitian Times’ “Haitian Newsmakers of the Year”, to Fast Company’s “Queer 50”, and now Queerty’s “Pride50”, Jean-Pierre is the queer trailblazer in politics that we need.

U.S. Senate Candidate Krystle Matthews (D-SC): Treat White People ‘Like Sh*t’

September 8, 2022/in Culture War, Elections, Hot Topics, News, Policy, Politics, Social Issues, Video /by Project Veritas

*CLICK HERE TO TWEET THE VIDEO*

Project Veritas Action released a new video today exposing South Carolina’s Democrat U.S. Senate candidate, Krystle Matthews, in which she admits to her bias against white voters and encourages gang members to enter politics.
Here are some of the highlights from today’s video:
  • Krystle Matthews, South Carolina Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate: “Let me tell you one thing. You ought to know who you’re dealing with. You gotta treat them [white people] like sh*t. I mean, that’s the only way they’ll respect you. I keep them right here — like under my thumbs. That’s where I keep – like, you have to. Otherwise, they get out of control — like kids.”
  • Matthews: “I know other people are tiptoeing around them [white people]. And I’m like, ‘Yo, that’s some white sh*t. I ain’t doing that.’ They be like, ‘Well, I’m just gonna say some white sh*t.’ That was my problem with Bernie [Sanders], because he was talking to an all-black crowd, and he was afraid to say black sh*t. I said, ‘If I’m talking to an all-black crowd, I’m gonna say black sh*t. Now if you don’t like it, you get your ass up and leave.’”
  • Matthews: “We need somebody who understands street gangs that we can clean up and put in a f**king suit. [Somebody] that knows like, again, we [are] all working towards the same goal, and we all know what the play is…Almost like a secret society – exclusive membership.”
  • Matthews: “Where’s the gangstas? Where the street n**gas at? Like, where they at? I’m telling you them n**gas were foolish, but you can’t out-swindle them. They might not know all the college words, but you can’t hustle them – can’t f**k with their money. They see the game a mile away. Where they at? We need to put some of them in a suit and tie.”
What will Matthews say in response to this latest video?

Will she attack Project Veritas Action again? Will she play down her remarks again? Or will she go on to apologize to South Carolinians?

Democrat Krystle Matthews refuses to drop out of SC Senate race. Claims recording was edited

Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Krystle Matthews is rejecting calls to abandon her campaign, claiming recorded comments released by a conservative watchdog group where she is heard badmouthing White people were cut and spliced.
In a Sept. 9 press conference, Matthews, who is Black, insisted she is not influenced by race and that the conversation recorded by Project Veritas without her knowledge and released this week is a mischaracterization.

Lawmaker Krystle Matthews apologizes for recorded jail comments then criticizes Republicans

“These right-wing chaos agents can distort what I say and misrepresent my views all they want,” she told Charleston media. “I will never stop fighting for working families all across this state.”
She charged the recording is presented out of context.
“What they did was cut one sentence and put it with the ‘S’-word to make it sound like I said they were that,” she said.
Matthews, who is challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Scott in November, is facing calls to drop out of the Senate race and resign her Statehouse seat after Veritas released a recording of a conversation she had with someone they described as one of their undercover journalists where she talked about White people.
“You gotta treat them like (expletive),” she is identified as saying. “I mean, that’s the only way they’ll respect you. I keep them right here — like under my thumbs. That’s where I keep — like, you have to. Otherwise, they get out of control — like kids.”
She also acknowledged representing a “mostly White district.”
In her press conference, Matthews said the thrust of her comments was aimed at Republican elected officials in the Legislature, not the state’s White population as a whole or her Berkeley County House District 117 constituents.
Project Veritas leader James O’Keefe this week stood behind the recording’s accuracy and said nothing was done to doctor it. He rejected Matthew’s call to release the entire conversation. A Veritas spokesman reiterated their defense of the recording Sept. 9.
Matthews also gave more insight into how the conversation came about, saying it was with a mixed-race male and held at a restaurant in Nexton after he claimed to be interested in helping her Senate bid.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas fired most of the members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council on Friday, according to a letter obtained by ABC News.

The Homeland Security Advisory Council is made up of 30 members -- both Democrats and Republicans. Some of those who were fired included allies of former President Donald Trump, such as former acting DHS Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli and former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan.

"I am considering how the HSAC can bring the greatest value to the Department and how the expertise, judgment, and counsel of its Members can be harnessed most effectively to advance the Department's mission. I expect to work closely with the HSAC and to rely on its Members to help guide the Department through a period of change," Mayorkas wrote.

The HSAC produces reports and advises the secretary on a range of issues from domestic violent extremism to biometrics.

"In the service of an orderly transition to a new model for the HSAC, I have ended the term of current HSAC members effective March 26, 2021," he wrote. "I will reconstitute the HSAC in the next few weeks, once the new model has been developed. Chairman William Bratton and Vice Chair Karen Tandy will remain in their HSAC leadership positions. William Webster will remain the HSAC's Chair Emeritus. I was privileged to work with Judge Webster throughout my prior service in the Department."

Bratton, Tandy and Webster are the only three members still listed on the HSAC website. Bratton, the former NYPD commissioner, serves as commissioner.

Ranking member on the House Homeland Security Committee John Katko, R-N.Y., slammed the action.

"While these members serve at the pleasure of the Secretary, today's action sends the message that this Administration has no intention of upholding a bipartisan, unifying approach to securing our homeland," Katko said. "The HSAC is not intended to be an echo chamber for what the current DHS Secretary wants to hear. Its mission is to provide a knowledgeable, diverse set of perspectives to combat the evolving threats of today and tomorrow."

Trump's former acting DHS secretary, Chad Wolf, who appointed some of the members, tweeted that it was a mistake as well.

"While I respect the right for a DHS Secretary to alter the HSAC to address their needs, dismissing the entire council outright and stopping a lot of important work (that was underway) is not the right approach," Wolf wrote.

Ketanji Brown Jackson
In 1996, Jackson married [wigger]surgeon Patrick Graves Jackson, whom she met at Harvard College.[129] He is a descendant of Continental Congress delegate Jonathan Jackson,[130] and is related to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.[131]

Jackson’s uncle, Thomas Brown Jr., was sentenced in 1989 to life in prison in Florida for a nonviolent drug offense. In 2005, he appealed to her for help, sending her a thick packet of court documents. On her referral, a law firm took on his case, and President Barack Obama later commuted his sentence.

In 2008, she served as a poll monitor for the Obama campaign with Lawyers for Change during the primary and general elections.

In 2012, Obama nominated her for a D.C. District Court judgeship. Her confirmation chances depended on the former president’s reelection, so the evening of Nov. 6 was a tense one for Jackson.

In 2019, she blocked the Trump administration from expanding its powers to fast-track the deportation of undocumented immigrants via an “expedited removal” process.

She is related by marriage to former Republican vice presidential candidate and House Speaker Paul Ryan: Jackson’s WHITE husband’s brother is married to Ryan’s wife’s sister.

The week before Jackson’s confirmation hearing, Sen. Josh Hawley composed an 18-Tweet long thread slamming Jackson for her handling of child pornography cases. “Judge Jackson has a pattern of letting child porn offenders off the hook for their appalling crimes,” he wrote.

Her brother, Ketajh Brown, is a commercial lawyer with K&L Gates in Chicago.

Controversies: The Provocative Professor

By LANCE MORROW Sunday, Jun. 24, 2001

The professor offered the following observations:

-- "Russian Jewry had a particular control over the movies, and their financial partners, the Mafia, put together a financial system of destruction of black people." This was "a conspiracy, planned and plotted and programmed out of Hollywood" by "people called Greenberg and Weisberg and Trigliani . . ."
-- "Rich Jews" operating in Seville and Lisbon and Hamburg and Newport, R.I., and other cities financed the African slave trade.
-- Whites are "pathological," "dirty," "dastardly, devilish folks."

Leonard Jeffries, chairman of African-American studies at New York's City College, put on a surreal performance. For long stretches of his speech before an Empire State Black Arts and Cultural Festival in Albany last month, Jeffries made an intense and affecting case for blacks to study African history and learn the buried side of their own stories in America. But he kept veering obsessively back into a snarling racism. Strange to watch: the intelligent angels of his nature were wrestling with nasty little cretins. The cretins won a few rounds.

Diane Ravitch, Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education, is a "sophisticated Texas Jew," Jeffries said, "a debonair racist." He repeatedly called her "Miss Daisy." Historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr., who has written against Afrocentrism, is "a weakling . . . slick and devilish." White people, including "very nice white folks," "distort history in what I call racial pathology. They are as diabolical as that." Jeffries sang out falsetto imitations of various Jews and other whites, manic little strokes of mockery and emasculation. Through it all, he invoked the liberating powers of truth. When he was finished, the audience gave him a rather tired standing ovation. He had gone on for almost two hours.

At first, Jeffries' speech escaped wider public attention. Then NY-SCAN, the state's cable-television channel, broadcast the performance, and the New York Post published a long account of it. That set off an indignant debate that had larger implications.

The first question: Are Jeffries' moments of flamboyant malice protected as exercises of academic freedom? New York Governor Mario Cuomo was not sure. First he said Jeffries' rant was "so egregious that the City University ought to take action or explain why it doesn't." Cuomo later backtracked and defended Jeffries' "freedom to abuse ((freedom))." New York Times columnist A.M. Rosenthal was not ambivalent. He placed Jeffries in the dreary international tribe of bigots -- Hindus paranoid about Muslims, white South Africans who proclaim black inferiority, Jew baiters everywhere. In the Washington Post, critic Jonathan Yardley wrote, "Talk such as Jeffries engaged in at Albany has nothing to do with 'ideas' -- it's bigotry, pure and simple."

But Jeffries had a following well beyond the academic community. When he returned to New York from a trip to Africa last week, nearly 1,000 of his supporters greeted him at John F. Kennedy International Airport -- far outnumbering the handful of mostly Jewish protesters who had turned out. One pro-Jeffries placard said, WELCOME HOME, BLACK PRINCE. A supporter declared, "Jeffries is exposing the big white lie." Another added: "The attack on Dr. Jeffries is an attack on Africa. It's an attack on all of us." The placard that received the loudest applause said, WHITE PEOPLE PUT JEWS IN THE OVEN, NOT JEFFRIES. Later in the week, more than 1,000 people showed up at a pro-Jeffries rally in a Brooklyn church, where they cheered a videotape of his speech.

The hating part of Jeffries may not represent the opinions of most American blacks. But a cloud of black-white cultural politics -- sometimes ugly, sometimes rather sad -- swirls around him. Possibly the professor subscribes to what might be called the Guidelines of Slur Compensation, whereby every vicious, ignorant remark ever uttered over the centuries by a white American may be repaid by a similarly ignorant viciousness mucked back in the opposite direction. Yin and yang -- every Black Devil has a mirroring White Devil.

Jeffries serves up outrages of pseudo scholarship that sound sometimes as if they originated in the lodge hall of Amos 'n' Andy's Mystic Knights of the Sea -- a rich irony in which Jeffries, a black foe of racism, makes himself sound like the Kingfish, a racist invention of whites. Blacks are "sun people," Jeffries explains, and whites are "ice people." New York Newsday quoted Jeffries as telling his students last year, "Our thesis is that the sun people, the African family of warm communal hope, meets an antithesis, the vision of ice people, Europeans, colonizers, oppressors, the cold, rigid element in world history." Jeffries believes melanin, the dark skin pigment, gives blacks intellectual and physical superiority over whites.

If Jeffries were a tenured white professor peddling race hate tricked up as learning, would he be more furiously criticized? Or less? Another C.U.N.Y. professor, Michael Levin, has, outside his classroom, preached the racial inferiority of blacks without being dismissed from his post. Perhaps that is because, as a lone academic crank, he speaks for no coherent movement and has no following. Jeffries marches onstage in all the panoply of Afrocentrism.

Afrocentrism is a culturally passionate and sometimes intellectually troubling development that is becoming something like a new religion in the African-American community. During his Albany lecture, Jeffries spoke feelingly about the need for black Americans to look into the past for their heroic selves. One important component of Afrocentric scholarship is a political-cultural exercise that attempts to appropriate the civilization of ancient Egypt as a black African phenomenon. Everyone must have his memories. Saul Bellow wrote once that they "keep the wolf of insignificance from the door." If some scholars doubt that Egypt is the black American's true memory, still, maybe memories can be invented.

The real history of blacks in America, of course, is abundant and rich and suffuses the entire culture: the texture of the U.S. is infinitely more black African than it is French or German or Scottish. And the real history of whites in America is far grimmer than the standard textbook version: it is more than a moral inconvenience that Washington and Jefferson were slave masters, and the national myth has never been rewritten to take full measure of the fact. Indeed, a dirty secret of all humankind is that everyone's roots are primitive and disreputable. The appalling 20th century slaughters accomplished by the European ice people suggest that they have not entirely improved on their cave-dwelling, fur-bearing, head-bashing ancestors.

Perhaps two spiritual imperatives are at war in the conflict over Afrocentrism and American blacks. On one side is everyone's need to make myths. On the other is the absolute necessity to stop lying.

LOS ANGELES — California Gov. Gavin Newsom will name Laphonza Butler, a Democratic strategist and adviser to Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a spokesman in his office said Sunday.

In choosing Butler, Newsom fulfilled his pledge to appoint a Black woman if Feinstein’s seat should become open. However, he had been facing pressure by some Black politicians and advocacy groups to select Rep. Barbara Lee, a prominent Black congresswoman who is already running for the seat.

The long-serving Democratic senator died Thursday after a series of illnesses. Butler leads Emily’s List, a political organization that supports Democratic women candidates who favor abortion rights. She also is a former labor leader with SEIU 2015, a powerful force in California politics.

Butler currently lives in Maryland, according to her Emily’s List biography.

Butler’s appointment to the Senate is historic: She is the first openly LGBTQ person to represent California in the Senate and the first Black lesbian to serve in the chamber. She is only the third Black woman to ever serve in the Senate, after Harris and Carol Moseley Braun, and the third openly LGBTQ person to do so, after Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema.

In Tsarist Russia, people loved guns. Officers, merchants, students, respectable dames, and young ladies all had a favorite handgun, sometimes more than one. However, by the end of the 1917 Revolution the authorities had restricted the right to carry firearms.
Total disarmament
The Bolshevik Revolution put an end to the free circulation of guns among the general public. The leaders of the uprising knew only too well what the masses were capable of, especially if armed up to the teeth, and moved to monopolize gun ownership.
In 1918 the Bolsheviks initiated a large scale confiscation of civilian firearms, outlawing their possession and threatening up to 10 years in prison for concealing a gun.
The only exception was made for hunters who were allowed to possess smoothbore weapons. Gun licenses, however, were strictly regulated and only issued by the NKVD, the police organization known for its role in Joseph Stalin’s political purges.

Why did American Blacks march down America's streets in the early 60s and demand integration rights into the political and economic systems of a people (White Christians) they were also labeling as their brutal oppressor? Why didn't the Black race demand separation and autonomy? All of human history suggest a people who claim they are brutally treated and oppressed by another...that is what they should do.
