A newly published study reveals the number of Americans who carry loaded firearms every day has doubled in four years
Approximately 6 million Americans began regularly carrying a loaded firearm in 2019 while just 3 million carried in 2015, according to an American Journal of Public Health study published on Nov. 17.
In the month of November alone, the number of adults in the United States who carried a handgun spiked to 16 million compared to 9 million in 2015.
When analyzing data compiled by the 2019 National Firearms Survey, researchers discovered gun owners had predominantly shifted to carrying a gun for personal protection rather than hunting.
The study also shows the portion of Americans who used firearms for protection has skyrocketed from 46 percent in 1994 to 73 percent in 2019.
“Of handgun owners who carried, 4 in 5 carried primarily for protection, 4 in 5 had a concealed carry permit, 2 in 3 always carried concealed, and 1 in 10 always carried openly,” the American Journal of Public Health notes. “The prevalence of handgun carrying was similar in states with permitless carry laws and states with shall issue carry laws. By contrast, the prevalence of carrying was notably lower in states with may issue carry laws.”
“As personal protection became the predominant motivation for owning firearms, handgun ownership increased disproportionately from 64% in 1994 to 83% in 2021,” the study states.
Researchers who conducted the study surmise the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned a New York State law will incentivize more Americans to carry handguns and prompt more states to loosen gun control laws. In a 6-3 ruling in June, the high court struck down the New York law mandating firearm owners to demonstrate “proper clause” to obtain a concealed carry license will incentivize more Americans to carry handguns.
“On June 23, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that New York’s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection under the law by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense,” the study states. “This ruling could further catalyze the loosening of firearm-carrying regulations in different parts of the country at a time when, as our study indicates, trends in handgun carrying already point to more U.S. adults carrying loaded handguns in public places, including without a permit when a permit is required.”
Twenty-two states currently allow citizens to carry concealed weapons without obtaining a permit or undergoing a background check. Six other states are considering permitless carry measures including Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
As the Gateway Pundit has reported, violent crime is increasing nationwide, particularly in cities where Democrats have defunded the police and bail reform has crippled law enforcement.
Businesses are fleeing blue cities amid soaring crime rates.
The streets of ultra-liberal San Francisco are congested with schizophrenic homeless drug dealers following the city’s implementation of a $3 million program to deploy community workers instead of police to respond to “low-level” emergency complaints.
In California, thousands of child molesters are being let out of prison after just a few months.
An investigation of a California database of sex offenders conducted by DailyMail reveals more than “7,000 sex offenders were convicted of ‘lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age’ but were let out of prison the same year they were incarcerated.”

The number of Americans carrying a firearm daily nearly doubled between 2019 (when the latest data came out) and 2015, when it was recorded.

A study from the American Journal of Public Health found that nearly 6,000 gun owners carried handguns every day in 2019 compared to roughly 3,000 in 2015. Additionally, the number of people responding to an online survey about the daily carrying of handguns rose from about 9 million in 2015 to 16 million.

The study zeroed in on those who carry a handgun on their person, not just those who might happen to have one in their vehicle.
The increases correspond with more lax gun laws in many states and an increasing number of survey participants saying they carry a gun for self-protection. They fear rising crime rates and other issues in our society that are driving much of the conversation about guns.

A decision by the US Supreme Court just recently overturned certain gun restrictions by the state of New York.
The authors of the study wrote the following, according to Fox News:
"This ruling could further catalyze the loosening of firearm-carrying regulations in different parts of the country at a time when, as our study indicates, trends in handgun carrying already point to more US adults carrying loaded handguns in public places, including without a permit when a permit is required."

Professors from several universities, including Northwestern University, the University of Washington, and Harvard University, conducted the study.
The authors of the study said that there is little known about how many adults actively carry firearms throughout the country. The available details are often only known due to self-reporting; even then, the subject is not often broached in many other studies. There are only a handful of accurate and valuable studies regarding the prevalence of gun ownership throughout the country, which is why these professors wanted to put their findings out for all to review.

In 1994, the percentage of Americans who said they bought a gun for self-protection was 46%. Now, that number stands at 83%.
The vast majority of states continue to loosen gun laws rather than tighten them within their borders, so it appears likely that the percentage of Americans who will likely get guns in their possession for self-protection will also likely increase in the future. It just gets easier every year to do so.

Law-Abiding Americans Had "Strong Appetite" For Guns On Black Friday​

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reported the latest National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) checks on gun sales during Black Friday was one of the "Top 10" busiest days in history.
NSSF said NICS processed 711,372 background checks during the days leading up to and including Black Friday. FBI's NICS recorded 192,749 background checks on Black Friday alone, a 2.8% increase from Black Friday 2021, when 187,585 background checks were completed.
Below are the number of NICS checks leading up to Black Friday.

Third-highest Black Friday NICS checks on record since the system was established in 1998.

When a person tries to buy a firearm at a gun shop, known as a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL), they're required to fill out an ATF form, and the FFL forwards that information to the NICS electronically. NICS staff performs a background check on the buyer to ensure he/she does not have a criminal record or isn't otherwise ineligible to purchase or own a firearm.
Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO, commented on the large influx of law-abiding Americans buying guns last week and said:

"Background checks for firearm purchases were already trending to make 2022 the third strongest year on record, coming off of the outsized years of 2020 and 2021.
"These figures tell us that there is a continued strong appetite for lawful firearm ownership by law-abiding Americans and that firearm manufacturers across the country continue to deliver the quality firearms our customers have come to expect."

What's important to note is that NICS checks are a proxy for the number of guns sold and are not exact because the background checks are performed on the buyer rather than the gun.
Elevated NICS checks imply a strong firearm appetite among law-abiding Americans. There was no explanation given why this trend remained red hot since the early pandemic days.
What might have supercharged gun buying among law-abiding Americans is this summer's US Supreme Court's NYSRPA v. Bruen ruling affirmed the right-to-carry applies outside the home, which forces states to stop arbitrarily denying carry permits to applicants who didn't meet specific requirements. Perhaps another reason is that under the Biden administration, violent crime has soared in some parts of the country -- law-abiding Americans might want protection.

Three years ago, I bet that 99 percent of my readers had never heard of ORC. Of course by now almost everyone knows that ORC stands for “organized retail crime”, and it is prompting retailers to permanently shut down stores all over the nation. Right now, retail theft is happening from coast to coast on a scale that we have never seen in our entire history. Marauding bands of looters are barging into stores, grabbing as much merchandise as they can possibly carry, and then loading it into their vehicles. Online marketplaces make it easier than ever to turn stolen goods into cash, and at this point organized retail crime has become a multi-billion dollar business. As I have repeatedly warned my readers, America is descending into lawlessness. The thin veneer of civilization that we all depend upon on a daily basis is rapidly disappearing, and if we stay on this path our society will soon be completely unrecognizable.

Every year, organized retail crime gets even worse. According to Fox Business, the number of ORC incidents in 2021 was 26.5 percent higher than in 2020…

ORC incidents soared 26.5% on average in 2021, with 81.2% of retailers surveyed reporting “somewhat more” or “much more” ORC-associated aggression and violence year-over-year, according to the survey.

Of course things are even worse here in 2022, and this is particularly true in states where shoplifting laws are very soft.
For example, in Portland some stores are often victimized “more than once a day”…

Some of the hot items are perfumes and expensive handbags. Often, stores are victimized daily and sometimes more than once a day. A local pastor whose window looks out on the local Nike store says he sees thieves running out of the store with their arms full of stolen stuff all the time. And the excellent KGW-TV story makes the point that this stolen stuff is not to feed hungry children. It is organized theft. The stuff gets sold online and in flea markets.

Needless to say, it is almost impossible to run a profitable business in such an environment, and many store owners are throwing in the towel.
In recent days, one store owner in Portland made headline news all over the nation by posting a note that explained exactly why the store is being closed…

A Portland, Oregon, clothing shop permanently shut down this month after facing a string of break-ins that has left the store financially gutted, according to a note posted to the front of the store.
“Our city is in peril,” a printed note posted on Rains PDX store reads, according to KATU2. “Small businesses (and large) cannot sustain doing business, in our city’s current state. We have no protection, or recourse, against the criminal behavior that goes unpunished. Do not be fooled into thinking that insurance companies cover losses. We have sustained 15 break-ins … we have not received any financial reimbursement since the 3rd.”

Sadly, organized retail crime is not just plaguing cities on the west coast.
This is truly a national phenomenon, and large retail chains are losing giant mountains of money because of it.
In fact, Target recently caused quite a stir when it admitted that organized retail crime accounts for most of the 400 million dollars that it has lost from shoplifting over the past year…

Shoplifting is such a big problem, that last week, when officials from Target were explaining why the company’s profit fell by 50% in the third quarter, they mentioned shoplifting as a contributing cause. Target Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington said Target shoplifting has jumped about 50% year over year. Target estimates shoplifting has cost the retailer $400 million and most of that, Hennington said, has come from organized retail theft.

If things are already this bad, what will happen when economic conditions in this country really start deteriorating in 2023 and beyond?
The more desperate people become, the worse organized retail crime will get.
At this point, thievery has reached such epic proportions that some retailers are actually considering locking up all of their merchandise…

In September, on an earnings call with investors, Rite Aid’s executive vice president of retail, Andre Persaud, floated an idea to improve the chain’s performance in New York City: turn the drugstore into one giant vending machine in order to fight shoplifting. “We’re looking at literally putting everything behind showcases to ensure the products are there for customers to buy,” Persaud said.
Does that sound familiar? Many big-city pharmacy chains are halfway there, with plexiglass cases that have mushroomed over even low-priced household goods like shampoo and deodorant—to say nothing of laundry detergent, razor blades, and baby formula. It’s like shopping at a pharmacy 100 years ago, with a white-aproned clerk pushing around a ladder to grab your tinctures and tonics, except now it’s a minimum-wage cashier with a key ring. These days, you press a red button and a loudspeaker tells the store that you have a foot fungus. In July, a Manhattan Duane Reade made international news when it placed a can of Spam—Spam!—in a theft-deterrent plastic case.

If this trend catches on, the way that we shop could change forever.
The days of just going in and quickly gathering what you need could soon be gone permanently.
And it is all because our society is becoming completely and utterly lawless.
Earlier today, I was deeply saddened to read about a particularly horrific crime that happened in Philadelphia on the day after Thanksgiving…

A Philadelphia parking authority officer was shot in the head in broad daylight by a thug in the City of Brotherly Love last Friday.
The suspect was caught on a surveillance camera walking up behind the 37-year-old male parking official and shooting him in the head at point-blank range at 3.50pm on the 4500 block Frankford Avenue the day after Thanksgiving.
The officer, who was on duty at the time of the crime, is seen in video footage immediately collapsing onto the sidewalk before help arrives.

The fabric of our society is coming apart at the seams all around us, but most people don’t seem to care.
Most people are just so self-obsessed that they can’t even see that our society is rotting and decaying at a truly frightening pace.
A highly civilized society is extremely difficult to create, but it is very easy to lose.
Unfortunately, most Americans are not going to realize this until it is far too late.

Noted Constitutional scholar, Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, recently offered some remarks on the Second Amendment that were not only insulting but appeared completely scripted.
It’s amazing to hear a member of Congress speak this way about an amendment to the Constitution that she is sworn to uphold and protect.
Cori also spends hundreds of thousands a year on her own armed security — who happens to be her husband!
Then again, Cori is a member of the squad.

First, there’s no such thing as an “assault rifle,” so since they don’t exist, you can’t ban them, Congresswoman. Second, of course your threat requires taking away the rights of people to bear arms — the arms that Democrats don’t want law-abiding Americans to own, or even more ominous, the arms that Democrats don’t think Americans need — which is none of their damn business.

We will double down on a public health response to the public health emergency that is gun violence in our country. And together, we will end this crisis once and for all.

Gun-Free Zones, Red Flag Laws Only Make Gun Crime Worse: Economist​

Two of the most popular gun control proposals have little to no effect on gun crime and actually exacerbate the problem for the people they’re supposed to protect, according to economist, researcher, and author John Lott.
“Those are the people who are harmed,” Lott told seminar participants at the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Indianapolis.

Lott is considered an authority on guns and crime, having authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and 10 books on the subject. He led two seminars discussing the effectiveness of gun-free zones, red-flag laws, and other gun control measures.
He said the story of Nikki Goeser encapsulates the shortcomings of these laws.
Goeser is the author of “Stalked and Defenseless: How Gun Control Helped My Stalker Murder My Husband in Front of Me.” She’s also the executive director of the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), of which Lott is the president.

Goeser was scheduled to speak at the event but couldn’t attend because of family obligations.
Fourteen years ago, Goeser and her late husband, Ben, operated a karaoke business. A man the couple had met became infatuated with her and began stalking her.
While Goeser had a license to carry a concealed pistol, at the time, it was illegal in her home state of Tennessee to carry a firearm in any business that served alcohol.
One night, while running their karaoke business, Goeser’s stalker showed up and shot her husband seven times in front of her. Goeser’s situation was known to the police, but the stalker had been undeterred.
Lott said Goeser has stated that she isn’t sure she could have stopped the crime if she had had her pistol. But she’s confident that complying with the law ensured that she couldn’t protect her husband or herself.
“As the title of her book says, she was denied the chance,” he said.

Lott told the gathering that Goeser’s story is a perfect example of the problems with gun-free zones.
According to statistics from the CPRC, 94 percent of mass shootings since 1950 have occurred in gun-free zones.
Lott said one well-known mass killer explained his reasoning in a manifesto written the year before he struck.
The 19-year-old man who killed 10 people in a Buffalo, New York, grocery store on May 14, 2022, has been described as a right-wing racist, Lott said. But, while he was an avowed racist, Lott said the shooter described himself as an environmentalist and eco-terrorist.
In his manifesto, the shooter claimed that minorities were damaging the environment by having too many children, and that’s why he decided to attack black people.
“Attacking in a weapon-restricted area may decrease the chance of civilian backlash,” Lott quoted from the shooter’s writings. “… ‘areas where CCW [concealed weapons] are outlawed or prohibited may be good areas of attack,’ and ‘areas with strict gun laws are also great places of attack.’”

New data shows that 2023 firearm purchases among law-abiding Americans remain elevated.

This comes as the Biden administration floods the nation with millions of illegals on the southern border, and Democrats controlling major metro areas have sparked a violent crime crisis in recent years due to failed social justice reforms.

That’s why new data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation shows nearly 16 million gun sales in 2023, with December alone seeing upwards of 1.7 million.

“Further, 2023 continued a 53-month-long running trend of consumers purchasing over a million firearms per month,” website Gun.com wrote.

Mark Oliva, NSSF’s director of public affairs, had this to say about elevated gun buying:

“Americans showed they want their Second Amendment rights by the millions – once again.
“These are solid figures that reflect the mood of Americans and the desire to exercise Second Amendment rights. These figures are a reminder of the importance law-abiding citizens place on their personal safety and freedoms, even as the Biden-Harris administration is using a ‘whole-of-government’ approach to chill and ultimately eliminate those rights.”

Meanwhile, the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System ended the year with 29,854,186 checks, which surpassed 2022’s figure of 28,904,713.

Former President Trump was correct last year when he said the US is a “third-world hellhole” run by “pervert criminals and thugs.”

“Millions of illegal aliens have stormed across our borders, it is an invasion, like a military invasion. Our rights and liberties are being torn to shreds,” Trump said, adding, “Your country is being turned into a third-world hellhole, run by censors, perverts criminals and thugs.”

It sure looks like an invasion.
