ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Four people were injured after a shooting in Allentown near Muhlenberg College Tuesday night, police said. It happened in the area of the 1800 block of West Turner Street around 8 p.m.

Students and staff at Muhlenberg College a few blocks away were initially told to shelter in place but that was later lifted.

Allentown police said Wednesday the shooting was unrelated to the college.

Police have yet to make any arrests.

The shooting is under investigation.

Four people were taken to the hospital and treated for non-fatal injuries, police said. Police said all four were shot.

It's unclear what led to the shooting.

ALLENTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Police in Allentown, Pennsylvania, are investigating a shooting incident that injured four people and put a nearby college on lockdown.

It happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday near 18th and West Turner streets.

Neighbors said they heard about eight gunshots and were told by officers to stay inside.

According to District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan, a fistfight sparked a shooting outside of a home on the block. Two groups of people gathered after two men agreed to fight each other.

Authorities say three women and a man were shot. They are all expected to survive.

"We understand that Muhlenberg College was briefly locked down. Our investigation has yielded no connection to Muhlenberg College and no threat to the Muhlenberg College Community," Holihan said.

According to investigators, Axel Yadiel Suarez-Vidal, 22, was armed and shot into a crowd of people gathered outside a home.

Suarez-Vidal surrendered on Wednesday morning and has been charged with four counts of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangering.

No additional suspects are being sought, authorities said.

This case is being investigated by the Allentown Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office.

A Hispanic in Allentown surrendered to the authorities after appearing to be the suspect of smearing four people, including three women and a man, on Tuesday night.


The blood incident occurred in the 1837 block of West Turner Street after 6:47 p.m.


The district attorney's office, Gavin Holihan, identified the alleged implicated as 23-year-old Axel Yadiel Suarez-Vidal, who faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and endangering the safety of third parties.


According to the prosecutor's office Suárez-Vidal, he went as far as a group of people on Turner Street gathered drew a gun and opened fire. So far, the cause of the shooting and the relationship between the victims and the victim is unknown.


The individual surrendered on Wednesday and was arrested until he was tried by the Lehigh County Central Booking Center.
