A San Antonio man, 34-year-old Keryan Jones, has been arrested and charged with two counts of Capital Murder, as well as five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Eagle Pass officials confirmed Marcus Antley, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, died at the scene.
A woman also died while being rushed to the hospital.
Five others were airlifted in critical condition to San Antonio hospitals after being struck by gunfire. University Hospital confirms one 59-year-old woman is in serious condition after the incident, and another 22-year-old woman has been discharged.

An employee at the casino has stated that the facility will be closed to the public until further notice. The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe Police Department will be the main organization investigating the shooting, the Maverick County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the casino around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, assisting tribal police in securing the area and searching for the shooter. Jones fled in a black Nissan Frontier but was later captured in Stockdale, Wilson County, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to the Eagle Pass News Leader, sources said Jones previously served in the National Guard and was once stationed in Arizona. He was seen on casino surveillance cameras before fleeing and was tracked through his vehicle to a Circle K in Stockdale around 7:40 a.m. Sunday.

DPS troopers attempted to stop Jones by firing at his vehicle. He was eventually taken into custody after a PIT maneuver disabled the truck, and troopers deployed a Taser. A firearm was also recovered.

The shooting happened during a raffle event that drew a large crowd to the casino. Witnesses told Fox SA's Yami Virgin they heard gunshots, saw a person on the ground outside, and described chaos as people tried to escape. One bullet struck an entrance door and another hit a slot machine inside, witnesses said.

A woman who was at the casino recalled the scene, saying, "It was right at about midnight. We heard 12 gunshots - boom, boom, boom, boom. We got up, my father and my brother-in-law looked out the window, and we started seeing a Kickapoo cop or something chasing a vehicle. And after all that, we started seeing chaos."
She describes being worried about the elderly people in the crowd who were being pushed around with people running in all directions. The woman and her family were able to reach their rooms at the casino safely, but she says, "We just wanted to get out. We would have left last night, but it was just too much chaos."

Maverick County Judge Ramsey E. Cantu called the shooting a tragedy for the community. “Our community has been shaken by the terrible news of the recent shooting that took place at the Kickapoo Casino parking lot,” Cantu said in a statement. “As your County Judge, it pains me deeply to see these horrific acts of violence occurring in our home. Please know that all local, state, and tribal law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly, not only to secure the tribal area but to protect our county as a whole.”

Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez released a statement Sunday, identifying one of the victims as Antley, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent.

“With profound sorrow, I join our community in mourning the tragic loss of Marcus ‘Mark’ Antley, a beloved community member and retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent, who was among the victims killed in the horrific shooting at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino,” Valdez said. “Mr. Antley dedicated much of his life to public service and law enforcement. He will be remembered not only for his career but also for his generosity, leadership, and the lasting friendships he built throughout Eagle Pass and the region. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many.
Our prayers also remain with the other individual who lost their life and with all those who were injured during this tragedy. We stand united in prayer with their families, asking God to bring healing, strength, and comfort during this painful time.
As Mayor, I reaffirm our commitment to support the victims, their families, and our entire community as we grieve together and begin the path toward healing.”

A state warrant was issued for Keryan Rashad Jones, who was apprehended in Wilson County by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel is the largest casino in Texas. It is operated by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas on reservation land near the Rio Grande. The resort features more than 3,300 slot machines, live poker, bingo, multiple restaurants and bars, and a 249-room hotel.

This, unfortunately, is not the first time the casino and its patrons have been the victims of violence. In 2021, a suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting outside the casino. The suspect in that case was arrested while en route to Carrizo Springs.
