MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The man arrested Thursday after an hours long standoff in Myrtle Beach was one of five people who allegedly attacked a woman in June, according to arrest warrants obtained by News13.

Elgin Mahamery, 20, barricaded himself inside a home on Dunbar Street after he was found by members of the U.S. Marshals Service
Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force. That led to the standoff with a Myrtle Beach Police Department SWAT team.

According to the warrants accusing Mahamery of assault and kidnapping, a co-defendant told police that Mahamery took part in a June 6 assault in the 1100 block of Washington Street in Myrtle Beach. He allegedly hit the woman multiple times and helped prevent her from leaving.
The video also shows the suspects kicking and spitting on the woman and making references to her gang affiliation, according to the warrants.
A video obtained through a search showed the woman curled up on the ground, the warrants state. Her pants and undergarments had been removed.

A Myrtle Beach police incident report identified another one of the suspects as Jerrick Thomas, 18. That report indicates that the woman had posted a video of her and a friend flashing “Crip Killers” gang signs while a fight was going on in the background.

The attack allegedly happened a few days later when she was “hanging out” with the suspects and they attacked her in an area of Washington Street where there were no cameras, the report said. She was stripped of her clothes and robbed.

The report said three of the suspects started the fight and then the others joined in. After it was over, she went to a nearby apartment and called her mother.

The report said she refused to talk to officers and that a video of the incident showed that she appeared to have cuts and scratches “throughout her body.” However, she did not seek medical treatment.
A video of the incident was also posted online, the report said.

Thomas is being held without bond in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center after being booked on June 8. He’s charged with attempted murder; kidnapping; possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; discharging firearms into a dwelling; assault and battery by a mob; public intoxication and resisting arrest / interference with an official in the performance of duty / threatening an office in performance of duty /giving a false name and address.

News13 has requested information about the identities of the three other suspects. and is still waiting for that information from authorities. Police said everyone involved in the alleged attack haas been charged.

Mahamery was previously arrested in Myrtle Beach on June 9 on charges that included assaulting a police officer, according to online jail records. He was released on June 10 on bonds totaling more than $15,000.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department announced the following arrests Wednesday afternoon:

  • Hubert Dwayne Durant Jr, 21, of Myrtle Beach
  • Evin Elijah Worrell, 20, of Myrtle Beach
  • Jerrick Larod Thomas, 18, of Myrtle Beach
  • Domnick Devin Johnson, 18, of Tabor City

Each of the four suspects is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. A bond hearing for all four suspects is also scheduled for Thursday morning.

A Waffle House employee [ALL WHITE EMPLOYEES] told WMBF News a fight involving over a dozen people broke out just before 2 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot near the restaurant and Comfort Suites in the area of Highway 17 - Hwy 501 interchange.

WMBF News spoke with a hotel employee who said he heard 10-14 gunshots.

Three cars were hit with bullets, including WM Gavin Caldwell, who was on vacation in Myrtle Beach with a group of his friends.

“I was really aggravated that my window got shot out because we’re not from here. We live like three, four hours away. So, not the best scenario to be in right now,” Caldwell said.

WF Renne Young, who is part of Caldwell’s group, said at first she thought the gunshots were fireworks until she went to the window and saw the shooting unfold.

“That’s just when I started tearing up and I was crying. I know we were far away, but it was still scary and my initial instinct was just panic and freak out and hide myself,” Young said.

As of 5 a.m. Thursday, authorities have not released where they detained the four charged, or if anyone was hurt in the shooting.

Myrtle Beach police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
