Zimbabwe's first lady, Grace Mugabe, is to appear in court in South Africa later following reports of an alleged assault
, South Africa's police minister says.

South African media said she had handed herself over to police.

She is alleged to have attacked a 20-year-old model at a hotel in the upmarket Sandton area of Johannesburg.

The woman accused Mrs Mugabe, 52, of hitting her in the face and put images of a head wound on social media.:p

South African Police Minister Fikile Mbalula told reporters: "She's not under arrest because she co-operated and handed herself over to the police."

The attack is said to have happened on Sunday evening. A Gauteng provincial government minister said a case of assault had been opened by the alleged victim.

The reason for the alleged attack is not clear. :bongo:

Gabriella Engels and rights group AfriForum have filed court papers challenging the decision by the South African government to grant diplomatic immunity to Zimbabwe's first lady‚ Grace Mugabe.

Mugabe was accused by 20-year-old Engels of assaulting her and two friends at a luxury Johannesburg hotel last week.


She flew out of the country under the cover of darkness :(at the weekend after Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane controversially granted her diplomatic immunity.

Engels‚ with the assistance of AfriForum‚ intends to challenge Nkoana-Mashabane’s decision. In the notice filed to the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday‚ they want the court to review and set aside the decision by the minister to grant Mugabe immunity.

"She used an electric cord with a plug at the end of it and I was … hit over the forehead‚ causing a gash which has serious repercussions for my appearance and my professional career as a model‚" Engels said in the affidavit.

Photographs of the hotel rooms‚ accompanying the security report‚ show blood stains on bed linen‚ blood on floor tiles‚ a cupboard door ripped off its hinges‚ a broken chair‚ damaged room door‚ bottles‚ drinking glasses‚ bedding and a plate of what appeared to have been food on a table.

Grace Mugabe, the wife of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, is reported to have fled the country for neighbouring Namibia.

Her husband is thought to be under house arrest in the southern African country's capital, Harare, after the Zimbabwean military took control of the government.

It is unclear how Ms Mugabe was able to make her escape.
