Police officer stabbed to death
A 28-year-old policewoman has been found stabbed to death in her home, police have revealed.
The Leicestershire officer was discovered dead with a man, thought to be her partner, at her home on Friday.
A post-mortem examination found both the man and woman - a probationary officer with 18 months service - had died from stab wounds.
A police spokeswoman said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths, in Oakham, Rutland.
She added a file was being prepared for the coroner and the flat where the couple were found, in The Sidings, had been sealed off for forensic searches.
The officer concerned was hard-working, popular and will be sadly missed
Ch Supt Chris Rollings, Leicestershire Police
Officers were called to the address shortly before 1800 GMT, after members of her family raised concern for her welfare.
Inquiries to trace the man's next of kin are under way, police said. He has yet to be formally identified.
Ch Supt Chris Rollings of Leicestershire Police paid tribute to the officer involved.
"The death of a serving police officer is clearly an extremely tragic event," said Mr Rollings.
"The officer concerned was hard-working, popular and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues at this time. The loss of this officer will be felt by all."
The probationary officer, who was based at Welford police station, was six months away from graduating to full police officer status.
She had not worked since before Christmas and was due back on the Leicester city beat next week, Mr Rollings said.
