Body Identified as That of Missing Galt Teen
Written for the web by Bob Montgomery, Internet News Producer

A body found Saturday morning in a Galt Park has been positively identified as that of 15-year-old Aaron Brooks, who disappeared on October 26. Police arrested a suspect in his killing late Saturday.

The body, which has lain in two-feet of water for more than a week, the body was positively identified as that of Aaron Brooks on Sunday.

A group of volunteers searching for some sign of Brooks found the body at about

9:30 a.m. in a drainage canal at the southeast end of Emerald Vista Park. The park is just down the street from
Brooks' home.

Late on Saturday police arrested 19-year-old Salvatore Carmello Maggio of Wilton for the murder of Aaron Brooks. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on a single count of homicide.

Investigators said a witness told them he saw Maggio emerging from the drainage canal on October 26 at about 5:30 p.m. According to the witness, Maggio was wet, muddy and vomiting. The witness called 911, and both police and fire units responded to the scene. Galt police say Maggio told the responding officer that he had been attacked by three juveniles, who subsequently fled the area. He was treated by medics and sent on his way.

Once the body was found in the canal, the report on the fight at the canal prompted detectives to seek Maggio. At about 6 p.m. on Saturday, investigators located him at his home in Wilton. Detectives say a skateboard matching the descr
ipti
on of one belonging to Aaron Brooks was found in a dumpster on the property.

Police say evidence indicates that Magg
io and Brooks fought over a small amount of marijuana.

Aaron Brooks was last seen on the afternoon of October 26. After school on that day the Galt High School tenth-grader was observed walking with a teen known as "T.C." Brooks later failed to return home. Galt police believe Maggio and T.C. are the same person.

Police initially believed Brooks was a runaway, but concern about his safety deepened as time passed and nothing was heard from him.
