Police Search For Clerk's Killers As Loved Ones Mourn

Tucson Police are looking for three men in connection with the killing of a convenience store clerk late Friday night. Acting on a tip, they surrounded a Tucson home on the southeast side Monday evening, but the suspect wasn't there.

Meanwhile, the loved ones of Christopher Cottle mourn his loss. His long tim
e companion, Marlene, lets out an uncontrollable cry.

Since Cottle's killers remain on the loose, marlene doesn't want to use her last name...but she does want people to know the tremendous grief his senseless murder has caused.

"I didn't believe it at first but I cried so hard so much."

Marlene finds comfort with Cottle's ex-wife, Janet Quitugua.

"He would give you his last penny to anybody, he was just a helping person."

Tucson police say three men attempting to steal beer, entered an eastside convenience store located at the 3400 block of south Wilmot on Friday night, July 15th around midnight.

At that point, police say they believe the suspects opened fire on Cottle, who was the clerk on duty at the time. Cottle was shot several times and found dead.

Cottle and Janet had three children and five grandchildren together. They lost their only son to cystic fibrosis just two years ago.

"Now I'm going to have to bury his father. The cystic fib
rosis took our son's life but for some, over a beer that his dad is now going to lay next to him, it's unbelievable."

Marlene and Christopher have a nine year old son.

A young boy who will never see his dad again.

Cottle served 20 years in the air force.... Even surviving a tour of duty in desert storm.

It comes as no surprise to those who knew him that he chased after three men who tried to steal several 18 packs of beer.

Marlene says, "he will protect himself and his work, and he just don't agree with people like that."

Detectives have identified two of the three suspects from the surveillance video involved in the killing of chris cottle.

First degree murder warrants have been issued for 30 year old Armando Ramirez and 27 year Manuel Montano. Police are also looking for 17 year old Hector Karaca -- they want to question him in regards to Cottle's murder.

If you know the wherabouts of these three men...call 911 or 88-CRIME. You can also visi

A homicide task force was formed in response to the slaying, and it has received more than 35 leads through 911 and 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office, said Tucson police Lt. Vicki Reza.

One of those tips led police to obtain warrants for Armando Ramirez, 30, and Manuel Calletano Montano, 27, on suspicion of first-degree murder, a Police Department news release said.

Police also have said that they would like to talk to 17-year-old Hector Taner Karaca, who is considered an investigative lead. The teen faces an unrelated warrant for absconding while on parole for a burglary charge, the news
release said.

The Tucson Police Department has formed a task force to find three men suspected of killing a convenience store clerk while trying to steal beer early Saturday.

The task force includes patrol officers, detectives, plainclothes personnel, crime analysts and crime scene specialists, who will work full time on the case, said Lt. Vicki Reza.

At about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, three men entered the Quik Mart at 3499 S. Wilmot Road and tried to steal beer, she said. T
he clerk, Christopher Cottle, 50, attempted to stop them and was shot several times. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

"We feel that these individuals are extremely violent and unpredictable," Reza said. "They went into a Quik Mart to commit a misdemeanor and elevated it to a murder."

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call 88-CRIME or 911.

Quik Mart killing arrests

Police arrested two spics and a beanager Wednesday in connection with the slaying of a Quik Mart clerk and were working to catch a fourth suspect.

Armando Ramirez, 30, surrendered to police early Wednesday, two days after a warrant for his arrest had been issued.

Police later arrested Hector Taner Karaca, 17, and Daniel J. Chavez, 20, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Karaca had been labeled an investigative lead by police while Chavez had yet to be named publicly in the investigation.

Police were still trying to find Manuel Calletano Montano, 27.

A warrant on suspicion of first-degree murder had been issued for Montano. Accor
ding to court records, Montano and Ramirez are stepbrothers.

Ramirez called 911 just after 12:30 a.m. from a pay phone at 3313 S. Sixth Ave., near Interstate 10, to turn himself in to police two days after a warrant for his arrest had been issued, Robinson said.

Police arrived at the location within two minutes and took Ramirez into custody without incident, Robinson said.

The details of Karaca's and Chavez's arrests were not released, Robinson said, citing an ongoing investigation.

All three were being held at the Pima County jail.

Ramirez was charged with one count of first-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million.

Karaca was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of burglary and one count of being a prohibited possessor of a firearm.

Chavez was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of burglary and one count of drive-by shooting.

Bond information for Karaca and Chavez wasn't immediately available.

The arrests came four days after 50-year-old Christopher Cottle was gunned down outside the Quik Mart at 3499 S. Wilmot Road, where he was working Saturday.

The shooting occurred after three men entered the store, each grabbing an 18-pack of beer before walking out without paying, officials said at the time.

Cottle, a 15-year employee, was seen on surveillance footage following the men outside. He was later found outside, shot several times, Robinson said. He was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at University Medical Center.

The homicide prompted the Tucson Police Department to form a task force to find the men in the video. On Monday, two suspects, one of them Ramirez, were identified, thanks to an anonymous tip.

On Wednesday, Tucson Police Chief Richard Miranda said he was pleased to hear that Ramirez had been arrested.

"When I learned about this homicide, I said I wanted to put people together and put the heat on because this was a truly senseless cr
ime," Miranda said. "Then this morning, I received four notifications that one had turned himself in and that is because we had people working together for three days straight to find these folks."

Robinson also credited the arrests to the hard work of the task force, adding that the public also came forward to provide crucial information to officers.

"The public really helped put the pressure on these guys," he said.

Ramirez, of the 3200 block of East 29th Street, declined an interview request by the Arizona Daily Star.

He has served prison time for numerous convictions including burglary, attempted theft and driving while under the influence of drugs.

Two convictions stemmed from a 1996 incident in which he stole a car and crashed into a parked vehicle while his two young daughters were with him. He admitted to smoking crack cocaine beforehand.

In a presentencing report, officials wrote that "the defendant has little insight into his criminal behavior or the i
mpact it has on the people around him."

Montano has been found guilty of both shoplifting and assault, and he has been indicted on theft charges, according to online court records.

It is typical of the dark races to kill over something as small as a few beers or some perceived insult. Niggers of course are the worst by far but spics and also in this category of killer. These three beaner demons should be hung forthwith!!
