WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Two teenagers were in custody Thursday afternoon following a six-minute-long high-speed chase that started after a disturbance involving weapons at a North Waco apartment complex.
De’ Monte Keysean Davis, 18, of Waco, was facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest charges, Officer Garen Bynum said. He was also named in unrelated warrants charging deadly conduct and engaging in organized crime, Bynum said. A 17-year-old whose name was not released was facing an evading arrest charge.

The chase started after an officer who responded to the disturbance spotted a man leaving the apartment complex in the 800 block of Rambler Drive just north of State Highway 6. “Information received also indicated that this individual was in possession of a handgun,” Bynum said.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle in which the man and the others drove off, but the driver refused to stop and pulled onto the Highway 6 access road, initially headed toward Lake Waco.

The driver used the turnaround on the access road just before the twin bridges and then pulled onto Highway 6 headed toward the Richland Mall, exited at Highway 84 and headed east toward the downtown area.

The suspects’ vehicle struck a curb in the area of South 31st and Franklin Avenue, which left tires damaged.

The occupants got out and ran.

The two teenagers were arrested after a short search, Bynum said. A witness said four people were in the vehicle.

Bynum said multiple people fled after the car hit the curb, but did not provide an exact number. He said the search for suspects has ended, however.Copyright 2020 KWTX. All rights reserved.
