Lt. Todd Stetzer of the Fitchburg Police Department said that the 12-year-old victim was able to fight her way free and call for help.

Police said the men abducted the girl in broad day light, around noon on Wednesday. The girl was walking alone in the 4600 block of Thurston Lane in the Allied Drive area.

The victim said one of the men grabbed her by the arm and led her in to the basement of an apartment building in the 2100 block of Rosenberry Road.

Police said one suspect was in the process of trying to sexually assault the child when she fought back and escaped.

While investigators said they believe the attack is isolated, they are urging parents to talk with their children about safe practices.

"Trying to have the kids walk together in groups is a good way to deter incidents like this. When they're not able to, make sure the ki
ds understand if somebody contacts them to run away, yell, scream, try to get the attention of anybody who might be in the area. And if they try to get you to a secluded area, it's not a good situation. It's OK to yell, scream, make as much noise as you can," said Stetzer.

The Fitchburg Police Department released a sketch of one suspect. He is described as a black male, 5 foot 6 inches to 5 foot 8 inches tall, this and 17 to 19 years old.

He was last seen wearing gray jeans and a white T-shirt. The second suspect is also a black male, five foot five inches with a stocky build, short black hair and a mustache. He was wearing black jeans and a black T-shirt.

Police said both were in an older brown, rusty four-door car.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Fitchburg Police Department at 608-270-4300.
