PHILADELPHIA -- Fighting at Philadelphia's public high schools broke out Friday at Benjamin Franklin High School in Center City.

More than a dozen students were involved in the fight and were arrested. Most of them were girls.

Around 10 a.m. Friday, two groups of girls got into a fight in the cafeteria. Police were called in and arrested 14 students -- 13 girls and one boy. The male student was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain.

"Basically, we have students who are not getting along and we're looking into separating them, so we're looking in
to moving them away from each other to different schools," said Fernando Gallard, of the Phi
ladelphia School District.

Sources said that the fight was between students from two different housing projects -- Blumberg and Richard Allen.

"I heard it started yesterday. One girl said they saw a girl in a car and she said she wanted to fight and it picked up today," said Lynaisha Coleman, a student.

School officials said that every student involved in the fight will be suspended for 10 days and some will probably be expelled.

"One thing I am sure of is we're going to make sure our students are safe. That's our first priority and that's what we're going to do," said Christopher Johnson, the principal of Benjamin Franklin High School.
