Students Brawl

Germantown, Oct. 25, 2004 --Dozens of students got into a brawl in Philadelphia's Germantown section. It ended with one teen being shot.

A 15-year-old Germantown High student is in critical condition. Some evidence has been left behind; various items of clothing and a bullet casing on Germantown Avenue. The police say about 40 to 50 students and others started in an altercation. It ended in the streets with a student being shot in the back. A witness describes it.

Witness: "You can see it from this point all around."

AN: "How many [people]? "

Witness: "50, 60 -- a lot."

AN: "What are they fighting for?"

Witness: "Gangs or so
mething. I don't know what it is. It's not necessary for this young person get shot."

School officials confirm what so
me students have been saying: that there have been ongoing problems. There have been fights stemming from rivalries from different neighborhoods. The police are investigating, and they expect to get to the bottom of it.
