Teen sentenced to prison for slaying of two high school students

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) An 18-year-old Lake County man will serve 57 years in prison for the murder of two North Chicago High School football players.
Dion J. Gordon of Zion was just 16 when he fatally shot two teens in the head during a fist fight. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder on Friday in Lake County Circuit Court.
Circuit Judge Mary Schostok accepted the p
ea and handed down the sentence.
``I don't know how a 16-year-old could do this,'' Schostok said. ``There are no winners here, today.''
The shooting occurred on June 26, 20

Authorities found David Mackins and Jarreau Patterson dead
inside the trunk of Patterson's vehicle several days later.
Gordon and Dwayne Hooker got into a fight with the victims because they were teasing Hooker's girlfriend, authorities said. Gordon shot Mackins in the forehead with a .22-caliber revolver, then ordered Patterson to his knees and shot him in the head.
Gordon and Dwayne Hooker, also 16 at the time, were charged as adults.
Hooker was acquitted at trial. His attorney argued that Hooker was protecting his infant son.
