Sitter Accused Of Punishing Boy With Scalding Water

Police Say Water Was 130 Degrees

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A Beaverton child-care provider is charged with abuse after allegedly putting a 2-year-old boy into a bathtub of scalding water.
Police say it happened last month at Valeria Terry's in-home daycare.

Detectives believe that the 37-year-old was punishing the boy by placing him feet-first into the hot water, possibl

y 130 degrees.

The child's father took the boy to the hospital with severe burns on the bottoms of his feet. Terry claims that the boy jumped in the tub on his own, but doctors didn't buy the story and called police.

"The feet were severely burned, and the detective handling this investigation says
this is worst case of burn injury he has ever seen," Officer Paul Wandell said.

Terry faces several counts of abuse and is held on $25,000 bail.
