PHILADELPHIA -- A series of sex assaults in northeast Philadelphia has women on alert and police looking for an attacker.

As many as four sexual assaults or attempted sexual assaults have taken place in the Frankford section of the city over the last couple of months.

Police are not sure if one or more attackers are involved, but they said that there is a clear pattern. Police are warning women to be careful when walking alone at night.

The first attack was on May 26 and the most recent was on Sept. 24. The victims range in age from 19 to 46.

Police said that all of
r
r
the victims were approached in the same way. They were walking in Frankf
ord between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The attacker would approach a victim and strike up a conversation. The man would become violent, drag the woman into either an alleyway or a breezeway and attack her.

Police said that the sexual assaults happened near the L train, close to Bridge Street.

So far, police are not sure if one or more men have been involved, but they have come up with two sketches based on descriptions by the victims.

Three women described their attacker as a black man, in his early 20s, 20 to 25 years old, ranging in height from 5 foot 9 inches to 6 foot 2 inches.

However, one victim indicated that her attacker was 5 foot 5 inches tall. (Pygmy?)

Preliminary DNA evidence does not link the first two incidents, so it is hard to tell if there are one or more attackers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Special Victims Unit at (215) 685-3251.
