INDIANAPOLIS -- Police are investigating another reported rape in the Broad Ripple area.

Officials said it happened Thursday night when a man abducted a woman in front of CT Peppers in the 6200 block of North College Avenue.

Indianapolis police believe that two rapists are working the Broad Ripple area and are responsible for as many as four attacks on women in the past two months, RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported.

"The main identification of the suspect is that he's speaking with a very thick Jamaican accent. Of course, that could be a fake, this could be a copycat, we're not sure, but we're treating them as if they are related," Staletovich said.

The first reported
rape occurred Oct. 24 near Central Avenue and the canal. A week later, a woman was assaulted at 52nd Street and College Avenue, but escaped her attacker. On Dec. 18, police said, a woman was abducted outside her apartment in the area and sexually assaulted over a period of several hours.

"It's really not uncommon to have a predator stay in a certain area. That's his comfort zone, and that's where he's working, so obviously that's where we're working as well," Indianapolis police Sgt. Steve Staletovich said.

North district police have increased patrols in the Broad Ripple area with both marked cruisers and undercover officers, Rinehart reported. The sex crimes unit has assigned two detectives to work together on
sol
ving the assaults.

The assaults are just part of a larger crime problem in Broad Ripple, Rinehart reported. Between January and July of this year, Broad Ripple recorded more armed robberies, business burglaries, thefts, vehicle-related thefts, and more rapes than any other po
lice beat on the north side.

All of the reported rapes and assaults have occurred during the late evening or early-morning hours. Police are urging women to make sure they have an escort when leaving the Broad Ripple area.

"If you're a woman, you should be concerned in a city this size anywhere you got that there are bad people out there. I don't think Broad Ripple is a bad neighborhood, it's where a bad person chooses to operate at this particular time," Staletovich said.
