Search On For Escaped Prisoner
- Police are conducting a widespread search for a prisoner who escaped while being transported from Florida to Philadelphia.
Investigators said they believe 33-year-old Sylvester Mitchell escaped sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Thursday either in Maryland or Philadelphia.
Mitchell -- who is wanted in Philadelphia for attempted murder -- was discovered missing when the van arrived early Thursday at the Central Detective Division in Philadelphia, located at 21st and Hamilton streets.
He was being brought here from a Fort Lauderdale prison here by a private firm -- identified by police as Prisoner Transportation Services, out of Tennessee -- when he escaped.
Police said he was shackled and wearing an orange vest.
