SCS teacher placed on paid leave, arrested for statutory rape

A Shelby County Schools teacher was placed on paid administrative leave on Dec. 10, following allegations that he raped a teenage boy.
Marvin Straughter, 53, was arrested on charges of aggravated statutory rape Wednesday.
On Dec. 6, the victim's great-grandfather and custodial guardian reported to the Memphis Police Department that he had learned of the assault, according to court documents.
The victim, a 14-year-old boy, then told investigators that Straughter sexually assaulted and raped him on more than one occasion between July 2018 and August 2019.
