NBA star Jaxson Hayes was hit with misdemeanor domestic abuse and resisting arrest charges Monday for a 2021 incident in which he went berserk on his girlfriend at an LA-area home and wound up getting Tased by cops, officials said.
The 6-foot-11 center for the New Orleans Pelicans faces up to a year in jail on the list of counts, which also includes charges of vandalism, trespassing and battery against a police officer, Los Angeles city attorney spokesman Rob Wilcox said.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón declined to press felony charges against Hayes last year, leaving L.A. City Attorney Mike Feuer’s office to pursue the misdemeanor charges filed on Monday.
The charges stem from a wild, 3 a.m. domestic incident on July 28, 2021, at a Woodland Hills, Calif. home, in which the LAPD responded to a call that the 21-year-old was becoming loud and violent to his girlfriend.

LAPD body camera footage showed a combative Hayes trying to go back inside his home as officers told him to stand outside.
Despite the police orders, the basketball player continued to head indoors, prompting cops to try and cuff him. This led to a struggle, in which the 220-pound Hayes broke free and allegedly pushed an officer into a wall.
An officer can be heard yelling, “Stop resisting, or I’m going to Tase you,” at Hayes, who kept struggling.

The video shows an LAPD officer pressing a knee on Hayes’ neck while the basketball player gasped, “I can’t breathe. … I’m a blessed soul.”
Another officer then used a Taser on Hayes, who then fell to the ground.
Hayes’ girlfriend can be heard screaming in the background begging the cops to stop Tasing and hurting the basketball player.

She also yelled at Haynes to stop moving and listen to the police.
After police finally cuffed him, Hayes, who suffered some cuts, got up and was told to sit on a chair. He was booked later that day.
Hayes’ arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 15.
