A 21-year-old man was gunned down inside a Bronx deli — in one of at least six shootings across New York City on Friday afternoon and evening, police said.

Jayquan Lewis’
body was found riddled with bullets inside the BH Gourmet Deli in the Fordham section of The Bronx just after 4 p.m., according to cops and police sources.

Officers had been responding to a call of an assault at the deli on Bainbridge Avenue near Coles Lane when they found Lewis, who, according to sources, was shot three times in the chest, three times in the arm and one time in the stomach.

He was pronounced dead at St Barnabas Hospital.

Cops are still hunting for the gunman.

Five other people — including a teenage boy — were injured in separate shootings between around 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday in The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, according to police and sources.

Police said the 17-year-old was shot in the left hip on the third floor of the Baisley Park Houses on Foch Boulevard in South Jamaica just before 4 p.m.

The teen said he was approached by a stranger that opened fire, according to police. An investigation is underway.

About an hour later, a 27-year-old woman was shot on Farmers Boulevard and 143rd Street, in Springfield Gardens, Queens, according to sources.

The victim took herself to Jamaica Hospital and was expected to survive, the sources said, adding that detectives were canvasing the area looking for suspects.

In Brooklyn, a 22-year-old and a 38-year-old man were each shot in the leg on a Bushwick street just before 4 p.m., sources said.

Three suspects were taken into custody after they were seen fleeing the scene in front of 1319 Halsey Street in a Dodge Caravan, according to the sources.

About three hours later in the Bronx, a 28-year-old man was shot once in the back during an argument in front of 1650 Topping Avenue in Claremont, sources said. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital and his condition was not immediately known.

Police were canvassing the area for video, according to the sources.

The spate of shootings followed a bloody night in the Big Apple that left two people dead, including a man murdered in a Queens karaoke bar.

Three people were killed and eight others wounded in seven separate shootings across New York City overnight, police said.

Saturday’s first killing was at 12:20 a.m., when police received a call of a male shot on Jerome and Bainbridge avenues in the Woodlawn neighborhood of the Bronx, authorities said.

Upon arrival, cops discovered an unidentified adult man lying next to a motorcycle. The unconscious and unresponsive victim had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, police said. There are no arrests.

The second slaying came less than an hour later, at 1 a.m. in Far Rockaway, Queens, where a 38-year-old man was shot in the torso in front of 151 Beach 26th St.

EMS transported the victim to St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, cops said. There are no arrests. Police sources said the victim was shot by two unknown assailants who fled in a gray vehicle.

The third death happened on Davidson Avenue and West 176th Street in Morris Heights in the Bronx around 4:10 a.m., where police found a 27-year-old man shot in the chest and right leg and a 23-year-old man shot in the torso.

EMS transported the 27-year-old to BronxCare Health System, where he was pronounced dead. The 23-year-old victim was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he remains in stable condition, police said. There are no arrests.

The non-fatal shootings began in Brooklyn about 12:15 a.m. when four men were shot at Lexington and Marcy avenues at the Louis Armstrong Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant, cops said.

Police sources said an 18-year-old was shot in the left ankle, a 27-year-old was hit in the left leg and a 26-year-old shot in the right arm during a dispute. There was no word on how the fourth victim was wounded. The victims were taken to Kings County Hospital, the sources said.

Fifteen minutes later, a 21-year-old man walked into Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, police sources said. The victim was uncooperative and did not provide details of the incident, the sources said.

Less than five hours later, at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, a woman in her 20s was shot once in the left leg during a dispute on Tilden Avenue and East 35th Street in East Flatbush, police sources said.

She was being treated at Brookdale Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

And shortly before 8 a.m. in Brooklyn, a 42-year-old man was shot once in the left leg during a “domestic dispute” with a 40-year-old woman within the NYPD’s 60 Precinct, which includes Coney Island and Brighton Beach, cops and police sources said. The exact location of the shooting was not immediately known.

The victim was transported to NYU Brooklyn Hospital in stable condition, cops said. An NYPD spokeswoman said the woman was taken into custody and charges are pending. The gun was recovered at the scene, police said.

At least 16 people were wounded in a series of shootings across the Big Apple in about a two-hour span on Sunday night — including eight struck in one incident on the grounds of a Brooklyn public housing complex, authorities said.

The bloodshed began minutes before 11 p.m. Sunday when three men were struck by gunfire on Westgate Street near 140th Avenue in Springfield Gardens, according to cops.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder, a 23-year-old man in the left leg and a 27-year-old man shot in the lower back, police said. All three were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

About 40 minutes later, another man, 32, was shot on Nostrand Avenue near Park Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, cops said.

He is also listed in stable condition.

Then around 12:15 a.m. Monday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the face during a traffic dispute on 101st Avenue near 90th Street in Ozone Park, Queens, police said.

He was taken to the Kings County Hospital Center, also with non-life-threatening injuries.

Back in Bedford-Stuyvesant, eight people — five women and three men — were shot on Dekalb Avenue near Marcus Garvey Boulevard, on the grounds of NYCHA’s Roosevelt Houses, around 12:30 a.m., according to sources.

“We have a large group of people gathered in front of 927 DeKalb listening to music,” NYPD Deputy Chief John Chell said during an early-morning press conference. “We have approximately two shooters that come off of Pulaski Street, and fire into this crowd.”

A 22-year-old woman was grazed in the nose, two women, 21 and 19, shot in the thigh, an 18-year-old woman struck in the shoulder, another 18-year-old woman hit in the stomach, two men, 23 and 27, shot in the shoulder, and an 18-year-old man blasted in the right hip, authorities said.

All were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

An officer from the 81st Precinct was down the block when he heard the shots, Chell said. Numerous 911 callers reported the gunfire, he said.

Three more people — including a 16-year-old boy — were shot at about 12:40 a.m. inside a Mercedes-Benz at Schenck Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Cypress Hills, cops said.

The 16-year-old, who was shot in the head, is listed in critical condition, cops said.

The two other victims, an 18-year-old man blasted in the arm and a 19-year-old woman struck in the leg, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims were taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, cops said.

No arrests were immediately reported in the shootings.

“Listen, anytime there’s a shooting, it’s a red flag,” Chell told reporters of the string of shootings. “Whether these are connected, we don’t believe so, but that remains to be seen also. And, you know, we’ll be working through that to see if there’s any connections.”

At least four other people were wounded in the bloodshed.

A 54-year-old woman, who police sources said was believed to be an unintended target, was blasted in the chest on a sidewalk on St. Johns Place near Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

The fatal victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.

Less than three hours later, Joseph Bryan, 50, was fatally shot about six times in the arm and torso as he sat in his brand-new Mercedes on Orchard Street near Jackson Avenue in Long Island City, Queens, according to cops and police sources.

Surveillance footage obtained by investigators shows a dark-colored Mazda dropping off the shooter on Jackson Avenue, the sources said.

He then fired about seven shots into the driver’s side of Bryan’s car before fleeing in the Mazda, according to the sources.

Bryan was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan.

Also Thursday night, a 39-year-old man was shot once in the buttocks on Saratoga Avenue near Hancock Street in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, authorities said.

6,500 accused felons go scot-free as NYC DAs decline to prosecute

District attorneys across the Big Apple last year declined to prosecute accused felons at nearly twice the rate of 2019 — letting more than 6,500 suspects off the hook, The Post has learned.
Prosecutors dropped all charges in 16.9 percent of the 38,635 felony cases that were closed in New York City during 2020, according to data compiled by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.
The year before, that rate was just 8.7 percent and the average for 2016 to 2019 was an even lower 8 percent, the statistics show.
Even though far fewer cases were disposed of last year, the 6,522 defendants whose charges were dropped exceeded the 5,985 who weren’t prosecuted in 2019.
The total number of cases closed in 2020 plunged by a massive 44.1 percent last year amid court closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic — down from 69,119 the year before.
A law enforcement source said there were “a lot of layers to the problem,” including veteran prosecutors retiring or leaving for other jobs and “inexperienced [prosecutors] and cops making it harder to do trials,” as well as the political nature of DAs’ jobs.
Bronx DA Darcel Clark dropped 28.5 percent of the borough's felony cases in 2020.
Bronx DA Darcel Clark dropped 28.5 percent of the borough’s felony cases in 2020.Stephen Yang
“The DAs are worried about getting re-elected,” the source said.
“Plus, you throw in a bucket of ‘woke’ and no one is getting prosecuted.”
The source also pointed to controversial, recently enacted laws governing the disclosure of evidence to the defense, known as “discovery.”
“Now, if someone takes a plea, you still have to provide the discovery information even though the case is closed,” the source said.
“Before, you didn’t have to. If you DP [decline to prosecute] a case, there is no discovery.”
The borough with the highest number of felony cases that weren’t prosecuted last year was the Bronx, where DA Darcel Clark dumped 2,408, or 28.5 percent.
Brooklyn DA declined to prosecute Eric Gonzalez 2,206 cases in 2020.
Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez declined to prosecute 2,206 cases in 2020.William Farrington
Another 2,365 cases, or 28 percent, were dismissed by judges, helping push the rate at which defendants were convicted and sentenced in the Bronx to a dismal 27.4 percent, down from 44.2 percent in 2019.
But that number was even lower in Brooklyn, where it dropped to just 21.1 percent last year from 41.5 percent in 2019.
DA Eric Gonzalez declined to prosecute 2,206 cases, or 17.8 percent, and judges dismissed more than twice as many: 5,335 or 42.9 percent.
In Manhattan, outgoing DA Cyrus Vance Jr. declined to prosecute 11.7 percent of the cases disposed of last year, up from 7.6 percent in 2019.
Only two boroughs saw district attorneys decline to prosecute cases last year at rates that didn’t reach double digits.
Manhattan DA Cy Vance declined to prosecute 11.7 of his borough's cases last year.

In Queens, under DA Melinda Katz, the number was 9.9 percent, up from 5 percent in 2019, and on Staten Island, under DA Michael McMahon, it was 8.2 percent, up from 4.8 percent.
Last year’s increase in the proportion of cases abandoned by prosecutors was also accompanied by steep decreases in the number of convictions and sentences of incarceration, the statistics show.
Just 7.4 percent of defendants 18 and older were convicted of felonies and 10.5 percent were convicted of misdemeanors, compared to 12.1 percent and 17.1 percent, respectively, in 2019.
And only 3.8 percent of cases that began as felonies resulted in judges sending criminals to prison for a year or more or to jail for shorter terms during 2020.
In 2019, prison sentences were handed down in 7 percent of cases and jail sentences in 7.2 percent of cases.
Queens DA Melinda Katz dropped 9.9 percent of her felony cases.

Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD detective sergeant and adjunct professor at the city’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice, was outraged by the situation, saying, “There’s so many people that will lose their lives because of that.”
“Eventually, it’s all going to backfire,” he said.
“It’s going to take its course, like everything else. The pendulum will swing back the other way, and they’ll stop electing people who are pretending to be a district attorney in name only.”
A Bronx DA spokeswoman said, “We prosecute cases when there is legally sufficient evidence. We decline to prosecute or defer prosecution in cases where police may need to gather more evidence or secure the cooperation of witnesses so that the case can move forward.”
“It is our duty as prosecutors to ethically assess each arrest as it comes in and determine if it is legally sufficient to proceed,” spokeswoman Denisse Moreno added.
Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon didn't prosecute 8.2 percent of felony cases in 2020.

A Gonzalez spokesperson said his office “led the way” at the height of the pandemic last year “by announcing that we would decline to prosecute low-level and non-violent cases in response to the public health emergency.”
“We have since resumed our pre-pandemic practice, which includes robust diversion programs wherein we decline prosecution if individuals successfully complete their requirements,” the spokesperson said.
“The fact that homicides and shootings in Brooklyn have decreased by over 20 percent compared to last year and major crime is down 5 percent proves that our approach has been successful and kept the public safe.”
A McMahon spokeswoman declined to comment and none of the spokespersons for the other DAs’ offices immediately returned requests for comment.
A spokesman for the Office of Court Administration declined to comment on behalf of the city’s judiciary.

Transit workers were assaulted in three separate incidents in Brooklyn and Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, according to officials and police sources.
The first attack, at 3:50 a.m., occurred when an on-duty conductor was slugged on the platform at Grant Avenue station in East New York, the MTA confirmed.
The conductor had just exited the train after pulling into Grant Avenue when an irate passenger approached asking why the train would not go to Euclid Avenue, according to police sources. He replied that Grant Avenue would be the train’s final stop, and the rider punched him twice in the face and fled, sources said.
The conductor was transported to Jamaica Hospital with a swollen jaw, sources said — while his assailant remains at-large.
Three hours later, at 6:15 a.m., an MTA station agent was pushed to the ground on street level at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue by a 32-year-old woman — who was arrested after searching the area, police sources said.
A third incident occurred at 12:39 p.m. at 34th Street-Penn Station, when a worker in uniform was punched by a man who was blocking him from exiting through one of the station’s emergency gates, according to a police spokesperson.
The 68-year-old revenue equipment maintainer’s “implants moved and he had bleeding in mouth, the NYPD said.

Flash flooding causes mayhem on NYC streets and subways

At least eight people were killed overnight across New York City, including a 2-year-old boy and his parents who drowned in a basement apartment in Queens, as the tail-end of Hurricane Ida ravaged the five boroughs.
A state of emergency was in effect in the city early Thursday after the historic downpour knocked out power and flooded streets, homes and subways — prompting the first-ever flash flood warning for the Big Apple.
The National Weather Service also issued a tornado warning for parts of the Bronx late Wednesday.
Among the dead was a family — a 50-year-old man, a 48-year-old woman and a 2-year-old boy — who was found dead inside their home on 64th Street in Flushing, Queens.
A 66-year-old Brooklyn man was discovered dead in the basement of his Cypress Hills apartment and a woman in her 40s was found dead in her home on Grand Central Parkway near Horace Harding Expressway.

A 22-year-old man and his 45-year-old mother were also later both found dead in the basement of their home in Jamaica, Queens. An 86-year-old woman was found in her Queens basement apartment.

One death was also confirmed in New Jersey after a 70-year-old man was swept away in his car.

Rescuers were searching for more stranded people Thursday morning and were bracing for a potentially higher death toll.

More than 200,000 electricity customers were still without power early Thursday across the northeast – mostly in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, according to PowerOutage.US.

The storm threw transit systems into disarray with New York’s FDR Drive and the Bronx River Parkway underwater late Wednesday. New York City put a travel ban in place until 5 a.m. Thursday for all non-emergency vehicles.

Subway tracks and stations were submerged, prompting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to suspend all service. Some lines were running with limited service early Thursday.

Videos showed water gushing onto the tracks at various subway stations. Other footage showed vehicles floating down flooded streets and torrents of water tearing through ground floor apartments across the city.

In New Jersey, the NJ Transit suspended rail services, except the Atlantic City Rail Line, and the Newark Light Rail was also halted. Newark International Airport shutdown overnight but restarted limited flights Thursday morning.

Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency before midnight for the city tweeting, “We’re enduring an historic weather event tonight with record breaking rain across the city, brutal flooding and dangerous conditions on our roads.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul also declared a state of emergency for New York state and Gov. Phil Murphy also issued one for New Jersey.

The National Weather Service issued its first flash flood warning for the city overnight, which is an alert reserved only for when “a severe threat to human life and catastrophic damage from a flash flood is happening or will happen soon.”

“To be clear… this particular warning for NYC is the second time we’ve ever issued a Flash Flood Emergency (It’s the first one for NYC). The first time we’ve issued a Flash Flood Emergency was for Northeast New Jersey an hour ago,” the NWS tweeted.

The National Weather Service recorded 3.15 inches of rain fell in Central Park in an hour, from 8:51 to 9:51 pm — believed to be the most ever. Tropical Storm Henri dumped 1.94 inches there last month.

As the storm tore through the northeast, tornado warnings were issued in Maryland, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

At least seven people were shot early Sunday in The Bronx, including an incident outside a catering hall where four victims were blasted in their legs, according to police.
The four wounded people were shot at 3:35 a.m. in front of La Roose Catering Hall on White Plains Road in Wakefield when a dispute erupted and an unknown gunman began firing at the group, police said. A 24-year-old man, a 36-year-old man, a 47-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were struck in their legs, police said.
The gunshot victims are in stable condition at local hospitals, according to the NYPD.
James Davis, who lives nearby, recalled seeing a well-dressed group partying outside the building when he walked by two hours before the shooting.
“There was a bunch of people, probably 20 people,” Davis, 44, told The Post. “They were dressed nice and stuff. … It looked pretty normal to me.”

He said he was caught off guard by the shooting.
“It really is shocking,” he said.
Maureen Chambers, a 62-year-old local who works as a home health aide, told The Post that she limits the time she spends outside in the neighborhood.
“It’s terrible. I don’t stand on the street late at night,” she said. “An argument and shot in the leg like that?
“They need more security and more police in the area,” she said. “I don’t go out into the street. You don’t know what can happen.”
