PHILADELPHIA -- A 1-year-old girl is safe after getting a wild ride from an alleged car thief and carjacker.

A manhunt is now under way for the carjacking and robbery suspect.

According to authorities, about 3 p.m., a man was looking at a vehicle at a dealership at 20th and Vare streets, when he stole it. The owner of the lot followed him. The car thief lost control of the vehicle at 29th and Wharton streets and crashed it into a Ford Taurus.

The man then jumped out of the stolen vehicle and ran down Dover Street. He jumped into the car of a woman who was unloading groceries and
took off with a 1-year-old girl in the back seat of the car.

The car was described as a burgundy
2004 Pontiac Grand Am. The car was recovered on 41st Street and has been recovered. The child was found unharmed, but she was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to get checked out. There is no word yet on the location of the suspect. He is being described as African-American, heavy-set and wearing a black jacket.
