DAVIE, Fla. – A drunk driver accused of killing a father of four appeared in court on Monday to face multiple charges following a hit and run in Davie last January.

Davie Police department said they responded to the scene near the intersection of State Road 7 and Griffin road after a crash on Monday, Jan. 18 just before midnight in which a car hit a pedestrian.

According to Davie police, a man later identified as Pedro Moss, 27, was driving a white 2018 BMW X2, when detectives said he hit 45-year-old Joseph Nichols who was walking in the median.

Police said that Hollywood Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and as they were trying to remove Moss from the vehicle, one of the police officers heard the driver say, “Ya’ll chill, I’m just intoxicated.”

At the hospital, Moss’ blood was tested and was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.244%. In Florida, it is illegal to drive with a .08% BAC (blood alcohol content) or higher.

PD: Driver was going 97 mph before crash that killed mom, 2 teens in Phoenix

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Investigators say the driver who ran a red light and caused a crash that killed a mom and her two kids in Phoenix was going more than double the speed limit right before impact. Police say 33-year-old Raymond Montgomery was going 97 miles per hour three seconds before the crash at Seventh and Missouri avenues on Thursday afternoon. About a half a second before the crash, he was going more than 70 mph in the SUV he stole, detectives said.

Montgomery has been booked into jail. He has been charged with robbery, three counts of homicide, theft and multiple counts of assault.
3 dead, 6 hurt after crash involving city bus at Phoenix intersection

Investigators say the three people who died -- a family -- were all in the same car. Ali Geer, 18, and Almira Geer, 16, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their mother, 45-year-old Courtney Lonergan, died at the hospital. Ali was behind the wheel. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with funeral costs.

This started with a report of a stolen SUV in the area of 17th and Missouri avenues just after 3:45 p.m. Investigators said a woman was in her dark blue Cadillac SRX when Montgomery, who she knew, punched her in the face and then stole her SUV. Police say she managed to get out before he drove away.

A few minutes later, Montgomery sped through a red light at Seventh and Missouri avenues, according to police. The Cadillac collided with a white Honda Civic driven by Ali.

The force of that crash caused a chain reaction, hitting a Dodge Ram pickup truck that had a father and his 5-year-old son inside. The pickup truck was then shoved into a City of Phoenix bus. No one on the bus was hurt.

Montgomery continued east on Missouri Avenue, striking a woman in the crosswalk and another car. The pedestrian and the driver of that car suffered injuries that aren't life-threatening.

A total of five vehicles were involved in the wreck. In all, six people, including Montgomery, were hurt. Police say Montgomery may have been impaired.

George Smith, Of New Jersey, Charged In Gas N Go Fuel Spill In Delaware County
By CBS3 Staff
July 27, 2021 at 1:45 pm

BROOKHAVEN, Pa. (CBS) — A 36-year-old New Jersey man has been charged in a fuel spill that happened at a Delaware County gas station, the district attorney announced Tuesday. George Smith, of Vineland, New Jersey, is charged with causing and risking catastrophe, clean streams law violations, and related offenses in connection to last month’s fuel spill at the Gas N Go in Brookhaven.

The Gas N Go is located at the corner of Coebourn Boulevard and Edgemont Avenue in Brookhaven.

“We have determined that the defendant’s deliberate actions caused this fuel discharge,” Stollesteimer said in a statement. “As a fuel delivery driver, the defendant was entrusted with a hazardous product – gasoline – and he owed a duty of care to all of us. He chose self-interest over the safety of the Brookhaven community and the safety of the children at Coebourn Elementary School. One of my first actions as District Attorney was to establish an Environmental Crimes Unit, and this prosecution should send a message that we will pursue and prosecute those who commit crimes against our environment.”

Smith is accused of topping off the underground tanks and ignoring over-fill alarms.

Delaware County officials interviewed Smith’s employer, Lee Transport Systems. They obtained records that showed his delivery route and bills of lading, confirming the amount of gasoline acquired at the fuel depot prior to delivery.

Records show Smith filled his truck with 8,500 gallons of gasoline for the delivery on the day of the incident. He was scheduled to make a delivery to the Brookhaven location on the fourth stop of the night. However, he deviated from his planned route and arrived to the Gas N Go first.

A delivery was made at the Gas N Go earlier that day and it was clear from records that the quantity of gasoline carried by Smith would not fit in the underground tanks at the station.
Officials say the gasoline, enough to entirely fill one vacuum truck, flowed off the property of the Gas N Go.

Surveillance video from the station also showed that during the field delivery stop, Smith left his fuel hose on the ground next to the guard rail. This corresponded with the flow of gas that led down the embankment of the gas station and into a small, wooded area between the gas station and adjacent to an elementary school.

The spill involved 4,000 gallons of gasoline and polluted water from a Brookhaven retention basin.

Fish, fox and raccoons have been killed as a result of the spill.

The catastrophic leak forced the closure of Coebourn Elementary, the temporary shutdown of a sewage treatment plant downstream, and will force the excavation of acres of gasoline-soaked wetlands.

Prosecutors were firm moments after Smith was arraigned on serious felony charges, this was no accident, and allege Smith tried to cover it all up.

Police Arrest Driver Wanted In Several Hit-And-Runs In Philadelphia, Including Crash That Killed Woman In Center City
By CBS3 Staff
July 28, 2021 at 9:44 am

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A man wanted in several hit-and-runs in Philadelphia, including one in Center City where police say he ran over a woman twice and killed her, was arrested in Collegeville, Montgomery County on Wednesday morning. The wild chain of events started just after 2 a.m. at Broad and Lombard Streets.

Police say a Chevy Malibu rear-ended a motorcycle carrying a 29-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger, then left the scene. The man who was driving that motorcycle is OK. His female passenger was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Fortunately, she only suffered some bumps and bruises.

Just two blocks away, police say the same driver struck a 32-year-old woman who was walking home from work. She was on the sidewalk near 15th and South Streets, when the car jumped the curb and hit her. That woman’s friend, who was with her at the time, was able to dive out of the way. He is OK.

But police say the vehicle turned around and ran the woman over a second time.

“What’s very unusual is, according to witnesses and the male that was with the female, after striking this female on the curb, the vehicle continued south about a half-block then turned around and went northbound on the same sidewalk and ran the female over striking her a second time,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The woman was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

Investigators say witnesses from both scenes identified the same car.

Police say they then found the striking vehicle, a Chevy Malibu, ditched at Broad and South Streets.

Police say they have surveillance video of the driver exiting that car shirtless, then leaving the scene. The suspect is described as a male, wearing gray sweat pants, possibly shirtless, or possibly wearing a light-colored or white jacket. Police say he may have been under the influence.

Investigators say that Chevy Malibu was stolen overnight.

Police say the suspect then stole another vehicle. He struck another pedestrian near Umbria and Hermitage Streets in Manayunk. This pedestrian was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was later apprehended in Collegeville, Montgomery County by police of that jurisdiction.

Anyone with information on these incidents should contact police.

Police Arrest Kareen Welton For Several Hit-And-Runs In Philadelphia, Including Crash That Killed Woman In Center City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A man wanted in several hit-and-runs in Philadelphia, including one in Center City where police say he ran over a woman twice and killed her, was arrested in Collegeville, Montgomery County on Wednesday morning.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office, Kareem Welton is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Police: Man Driving Stolen Car Strikes, Kills Woman In Center City, Others Injured In Another Hit-And Run

Just two blocks away, police say Welton then struck a 32-year-old woman who was walking home from work. She was on the sidewalk near 15th and South Streets, when the car jumped the curb and hit her. That woman’s friend, who was with her at the time, was able to dive out of the way. He is OK.

But police say Welton turned around and ran the woman over a second time.

Police say they have surveillance video of Welton exiting that car shirtless, then leaving the scene. Police say he may have been under the influence.

That lines up with what a family member of Welton’s told CBS3. The relative wanted to remain anonymous but says he was having a psychotic episode. They told Eyewitness News authorities were called for a mental health check earlier in the day, but it was denied.

“They, nobody wanted the job and it took this to happen, man,” the family member told CBS3. “It’s sad, man.”

Investigators say the Chevy Malibu was stolen overnight.

Police say Welton then stole another vehicle. He struck another pedestrian near Umbria and Hermitage Streets in Manayunk. This pedestrian was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Welton was later apprehended in Collegeville, Montgomery County by police of that jurisdiction. Still, the alleged lack of response from law enforcement frustrates even those close to the suspect.

“It could’ve been avoided, man. It could’ve been avoided,” the family member says.

Authorities denied CBS3’s requests for answers regarding the family member’s claims or the driver’s motivations.

Kareem Welton’s Family Says Hit-And-Run Spree In Philadelphia, Montgomery County Could Have Been Prevented With Appropriate Psychiatric Help
By CBS3 Staff
July 29, 2021 at 5:05 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a hit-and-run in Center City on Wednesday morning as 31-year-old Adriana Moreno-Sanchez. Police say Moreno-Sanchez was walking home from work when a car jumped the curb near 15th and South Streets and ran her over twice before fleeing the scene.

Moreno-Sanchez worked at Steak 48 in Center City. Due to the tragic loss, Steak 48 canceled all of their reservations for Wednesday evening.

“Our employees are like family to us here at Steak 48,” the restaurant’s corporate office said in a statement. “Our hearts and thoughts are with the family, friends and employees impacted by this devastating tragedy.”

Police say Kareem Welton is the man behind the hit-and-run. Welton allegedly went on a hit-and-run rampage, causing a series of crashes in Philadelphia all the way to Montgomery County. He left one woman dead and several others injured.

Welton is now behind bars, but his family says the crime spree could have been prevented.

“His oldest brother tried to 302 him a couple of days ago and they wouldn’t 302 him and he was starting those psychotic episodes then,” said Denise Welton, the suspect’s aunt.

Eyewitness News spoke with Welton’s ont, Denise Welton. She says her nephew started acting abnormally on Tuesday.

Wednesday morning, police say his rampage started at Broad and Lombard Streets when he rear-ended a couple on a motorcycle. A few blocks away at 15th and South Streets, he then hit and killed Moreno-Sanchez.

Surveillance video captured the terrifying moments. Police say Welton struck Moreno-Sanchez from behind and then turned around to run over her a second time. Police say the Chevy Malibu Welton was driving was stolen.

Investigators say he ditched it in Center City only to then steal another vehicle and hit another person in Manayunk.

Welton was finally apprehended in Collegeville, Montgomery County, after striking a fifth person. That victim, a jogger, suffered a broken spine and fractures to his ribs and legs.

“My heart goes out to the young lady whose life was taken and all the other people who were injured by my nephew, but my nephew is not like that.” Denise Welton said.

Welton’s family says all of this could have been avoided if Welton got the help he needed when they took him to the hospital on Tuesday but was later released. Philadelphia Police tell Eyewitness News they have responded to similar calls about Welton in the past; however, officers couldn’t find him when they arrived.

“I don’t understand why they didn’t allow him to get the help that he needed when he was taken to the hospital,” Denise Welton said.

Part of the department’s policy says: “A mentally disabled person will never be transported to any police facility, but will be taken directly to a crisis response center.” The directives also say: “The main objective when handling a “Severely mentally disabled person” is to aid and protect the interest of the smdp, innocent bystanders, and family members in the immediate area, without compromising the safety of all parties concerned including the police officers.”

Philadelphia police say they are looking into those 302 calls.

No word yet on what charges Welton is facing in Philadelphia. Meantime, he’s facing multiple charges in Montgomery County, including attempted murder.

A reckless driver whose car has racked up 160 traffic violations was arrested in the horrific hit-run crash that killed a 3-month-old girl in Brooklyn over the weekend, cops said Sunday.
Wrong-way driver Tyrik Mott, 28 — whose vehicle has been caught speeding more than 90 times near city schools and habitually failing to stop at traffic signals — had been spotted by cops blowing through a red light before the fatal crash, an NYPD spokesman said.
The officers who saw Mott blow through the light were headed in the opposite direction at the time, and by the time they did a U-turn to try to catch the driver, they had lost sight of him, the rep said.
Mott went on to crash into another car, killing the baby being pushed in a stroller by her mom on the sidewalk, cops said. Three other people also were injuredin the crash, which occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday in Clinton Hill, police said.

Mott was nabbed after fleeing the scene on foot and trying to steal another driver’s car, according to authorities.
The suspect was allegedly driving a 2017 dark silver Honda Civic in the wrong direction on Gates Avenue when his car collided with a 2020 black Honda Civic operated by a 49-year-old woman at Vanderbilt Avenue, cops said.
The 2017 Honda, which has Pennsylvania plates, was previously captured by automated speed cameras zooming past Big Apple schools at least 10 mph above the speed limit 91 times since fall 2017, city records show.
The vehicle was caught on camera speeding in school zones an astonishing 35 times in 2021 alone, including on seven occasions since summer began, according to records.
Baby stroller.A 33-year-old female pedestrian, a 36-year-old male pedestrian and a 3-month-old girl, who was in a stroller, were hit by the vehicles.Robert Mecea
The car was also caught running red lights 14 times since 2017, including five occasions in recent months, data shows.
The slew of other violations against the vehicle ranged from blocking a crosswalk to parking too close to a fire hydrant to expired meters.
In February 2020, the Big Apple passed a law allowing city agencies to seize vehicles with five red light camera or 15 speed camera violations within a 12-month period, unless the operator completes a driver safety course.

It’s unclear how or why Mott was allowed on the road.
In Saturday’s collision, the baby flew 15 to 20 feet in the air upon impact, a witness had told The Post. Her 33-year-old mom and a 36-year-old male pedestrian were also injured, according to cops.
“Oh my God, it’s horrifying,” a local resident told The Post on Sunday. “This makes me sick. My wife and I, we’re expecting. and this is horrifying.

“It happened right here, right down the block,” he said, noting the crash scene about a half-mile away.
The man called the baby’s parents, who are French, “super nice.
“They were on vacation overseas the whole month of August. Europe,” he said.
Mott allegedly took off on foot after the crash and tried to steal a 41-year-old driver’s 2020 Hyundai, cops said.
He was arrested a short time later and charged with attempted robbery, attempted grand larceny, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, officials said. He is expected to face homicide charges when arraigned, police said.

“When this guy ran from the scene initially, he attempted to steal another vehicle to evade police,” a police spokesman said.

The male pedestrian was taken to Brooklyn Hospital in stable condition. The 49-year-old other Honda driver was taken to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

First responders on the scene of fatal hit-and-run in Brooklyn

The suspect busted in the hit-and-run crash that killed a 3-month-old girl in Brooklyn was ordered held on bail Sunday — after it was revealed at his arraignment that he asked arresting officers to go easy on him.
Wrong-way driver Tyrik Mott, 28, was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on the top charge of attempted robbery for allegedly trying to steal a 41-year-old driver’s car to get away after the fatal collision Saturday in Clinton Hill.
Judge Deepa Ambekar ordered Mott held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 partially secured bond at his arraignment.
Mott allegedly blew a red light before crashing into another car, killing the baby being pushed in a stroller by her mom on a sidewalk, cops have said.

At that point, Mott asked officers “if he could just get a ticket,” Assistant District Attorney Tzyonah Langsam said in court Sunday night.
Langsam said more charges against Mott are expected to be filed Monday.
The car Mott had been driving at the time has racked up 160 traffic violations.

Mott’s private attorney, Lance Lazzaro, argued his client should be set free.
“The way that they wrote this case up, it should have been an ROR,” Lazzaro told The Post after the arraignment.
“She did not follow the factors under the new bail reform statute,” Lazzaro said, referring to the judge. “And, had she followed it, it would have been an ROR. He is recommended for release, he had no criminal record,” the lawyer said.
About five of Mott’s relatives attended his arraignment, including his mother, who defended him in a brief interview.
“He’s a good boy,” the mother, who only identified herself as Mrs. Mott, told The Post.

Police are searching for a man suspected of running over and injuring a pedestrian while fleeing downtown Los Angeles with a stolen vehicle earlier this year, officials said Tuesday.
The hit-and-run collision happened around 8:35 p.m. Feb. 20, after a man stole a 2001 Toyota Tundra from the area of Seventh and Figueroa streets and was driving away from the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The pickup truck ran over the pedestrian, who was was crossing the street at the intersection.
The driver kept going, not stopping to render aid to the badly injured woman, LAPD officials said. He later ditched the truck a short distance away in the area of Bixel and Ingraham streets.
Paramedics responded to the scene of the collision and took the woman to a hospital, where she was admitted with severe injuries.
She has since been discharged from the hospital, but still faces a long road to recovery, police said. LAPD shared photos of the victim in her hospital bed, where she was lying with a broken arm and visible injuries to her face.

Using DNA evidence left in the truck, detectives identified the driver as 30-year-old Tajon Wright Freeman, according to LAPD.

Police said DNA evidence also tied Freeman to a felony vandalism case reported in the West Los Angeles area.

Freeman now faces charges of grand theft auto, felony hit-and-run and felony vandalism, authorities said. On Aug. 20, two felony warrants were issued for his arrest.

But detectives have not been able to find Freeman.

LAPD put out a bulletin with photos of the suspect Tuesday, in hopes that members of the public will lead police to his whereabouts.

They warned that Freeman is considered to be armed and dangerous. “Do not approach him if seen,” LAPD said.

Police described Freeman as as being 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds with tattoos on his chest, arms and neck. Police said the suspect is homeless and is known to frequent MacArthur Park and the Metro Redline system.

Anyone who spots Freeman is urged to immediately call 911. Those with information can contact LAPD Central Traffic Detective Campo at 213-833-3713 or 31480@lapd.online.

LAPD on Sept. 17, 2021, released this bulletin as they searched for a suspect in a downtown L.A. hit-and-run collision.

ATLANTA - A man was arrested for reckless driving after Georgia State Patrol troopers said he struck two vehicles and forced one stranded motorist to fall from an Interstate 85 overpass while he was racing another car along the busy highway.

Horace Maurice Dillard, Jr., was booked into the Fulton County jail on Monday. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Dillard was racing another car down I-85 just south of Piedmont just after 4 p.m. when his car struck a Kia Optima, sending it spinning into the emergency lane.

Troopers then said he hit a Chevrolet Cruz that had broken down and was in the right emergency lane. Leslie Camille Reese who was outside the car at the time waiting for a friend to pick her up, was launched from the overpass as a result, troopers said. She landed about 30 feet down on a lawn along Plasters Avenue NE.

Reese was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. According to family members, it will take at least three months until she is able to try to walk again.

Dillard was charged with reckless driving, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, improper lane change, and serious injury by motor vehicle. According to jail records, he was released on bond and must wear an ankle monitor.

Reese’s father has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for her medical expenses. Anyone who would like to donate can do so by going to https://gofund.me/087ab50d

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A 21-year-old man surrendered himself to Philadelphia police Sunday night in connection to the hit-and-run that left 8-year-old Ja-Kha House dead in Strawberry Mansion last week. Police say Khadeir Harris has been charged with murder of the third degree, homicide by vehicle, and several other charges, for allegedly killing House.
The incident happened just after 4 p.m. on 33rd and Huntingdon Streets last Monday.

House was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he later died.
Harris’ attorney, Richard J. Fuschino, says his client turned himself in after he found out on social media he was wanted for questioning, and that they contacted officials before they knew a warrant had been issued.
Fuschino says until all facts are known, justice can’t be served.
“A person being arrested or a warrant being issued for a person’s arrest is no evidence of their guilt at all,” Fuschino said. “We do have some information that there were witnesses who said that the vehicle was being shot at, there is some evidence to suggest there were at least two people in the vehicle and there is evidence to suggest there were bullet holes in the vehicle when it was found.”
Neighbors say the video shows the driver of a white SUV speeding down 33rd and Huntingdon Streets before hitting the boy. Police say he was thrown across the street.
“It was crazy,” Carol Green told Eyewitness News. “It was crazy. The car didn’t stop. It kept on going. It just kept on going.”
About four hours after the deadly hit-and-run, police found the wanted vehicle in the 4000 block of Balwynne Park Road. Police also say that the striking vehicle was stolen.
The community is heartbroken by the tragic news.
