Sexual predator gets life sentence
DOUGLAS COUNTY - A man who took on different identities to gain an advantage on his victims before sexually assaulted them was sentenced to 20 years to life Thursday.
Michael Ricks pleaded guilty to one felony count of sex assault and one misdemeanor count of sexual contact.
Prosecutors say Ricks posed as a chiropractor and massage therapist and sexually assaulted female patients.
Ricks also impersonated a police officer and coerced prostitutes
to have sex with him to avoid being arrested.
"Mr. Ricks is very much like most sex offenders, he's a gre
at liar. A pathological liar and he's a person who will say whatever he has to in order to get whatever he wants," said Deputy District Attorney Darren Vahle.
Two of the victims told their stories, talked about what Ricks did to them, and how horribly the whole ordeal impacted their lives.
"This was very difficult for them," said Vahle. "The youngest was just 18 when it happened."
Vahle said he was happy the judge didn't go easy on Ricks.
"We're pleased with the lifetime sentence, we feel that's appropriate for a guy like him," Vahle said. "This has been going on for a long time, a lot of women have been abused. We think there are a lot of other women who've never come forward."

AS - Douglas County investigators say a man posing as a doctor and therapist has sexually assaulted three women.
Prosecutors charged Michael Ricks Wednesday with 31 counts, including sexual ass
ault and criminal impersonation.
Ricks is accused of using sexual objects to treat women at three clinics in Aurora and Highlands Ranch. On his Web site, Ricks claims to have a doctorate in psychology and to be a qualified chiropractor, cosmetologist, massage therapist and physical therapist.
But investigators say all of his credentials are bogus. They say that he bought his degrees off the Internet. Investigators believe Ricks may have victimized other women. If you have any information relevant to this case, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office asks that you call 303-814-7131.
