Bishop Arrested on Lewd Act with a Minor Charge

(Richland County) -- Richland County deputies have arrested a local bishop, charging him with crimes against a minor.

Sixty-one year-old Theodore Myers is charged with one count of lewd act upon a child and one count of indecent exposure. Myers is the bishop of the Temple of Faith Bible Way Church on Congaree Road in Gadsden.

Investigators believe that on two separate occasions Myers enticed a seven- year'old girl up to his office located in the church. On one occasion, deputies say Myers exposed himself to her. In the second inci


dent, he is accused of placing his hands down her pants. The victim reported the incident to her aunt and father,
who contacted the Sheriff's Department.

Myers turned himself into investigators on Monday.

Columbia bishop charged with committing lewd act on child

(Columbia) Aug. 22, 2005 - The bishop of a Columbia church is charged with committing a lewd act on a child and indecent exposure.

But even as one of the state's top bishops faces molestation charges, his church is standing by him.

Bishop Theodore Myers, 61, established the Temple of Faith Bible Way Church in Gadsden 25 years ago.

Lt. Chris Cowan of the Richland County Sheriff's Department says, "It's tragic, this child will go through a tremendous amount of victimization over the next several stages of her life."

The girl was attending the church's afterschool program where Myers is also the principal. Lt. Co


wan says investigators think, "He went an enticed her away with candy, away from the daycare and encourage
d her to go upstairs with to his office and exposed himself and in another occasion he put his hands down her pants."

Investigators think the incidents happened on two separate occasions, once last year and once this year.

James Butler doesn't believe it, "I don't think he would stoop that low to do something like that."

He's member of Temple of Faith. Butler says the church will stand behind Bishop Myers 100 percent and doesn't believe the church will change the bishop's duties, "Pastor Myers is a good man those who know him knows he stands for what is true and right and he's not going to hurt kids, he's an educator, he loves kids."

Myers has been released on a $50,000 bond. While he awaits his trial, for now he&#3
