Wonder if they started fighting over the loot before even leaving the scene.

PEARL RIVER COUNTY - One person is dead and two others now face murder charges after a bizarre home burglary this weekend outside Lumberton.

Around 11:45 p.m. Friday, the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at a rural home on Ed R
ed Road.

The caller said armed men had stormed the house, fired several rounds and forced the home's occupants to hand over their wallets and empty the contents of the house's safe into a pil

lowcase, authorities said.

The caller added that no one appeared to be injured, authorities said.

The case took a
strange twist when authorities arrived and made two surprising discoveries.

The pillowcase, still stuffed with its stolen contents, was found left beside the house. Investigators also found, lying in the woods along the property, the body of one of the alleged robbers, dead from single gunshot wound to the chest.

The body was later identified as that of Arthur Joshua, 38, of Lumberton.

On Saturday, authorities arrested two people, Shannon Landry, 22, of Purvis, and Robert Grant, 35, of Lumberton, and charged them with armed robbery and murder.

Aaron Russell, chief deputy with the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department, said evidence at the scene sug
gested that Joshua collapsed in the home's driveway after he was shot. A trail of blood leading into the woods shows where his body was apparently dragged and dumped, Russell said.

Althou
gh i
nvestigators were still trying to determine how Joshua was shot - whether by accident or whether someone deliberately pulled the trigger - Russell
said the question is largely moot.

"If someone dies during the commission of a felony, it's a murder charge," Russell said. "It doesn't matter who pulled the trigger."

Still, Russell said investigators likely won't have a clear picture of what happened Friday night until forensic and ballistic evidence returns from the state crime lab.

On Monday, a Pearl River County Justice Court judge denied bond for Landry and Grant, who were being held at the Lamar County Jail and the Pearl River County Jail.

Russell would not comment on other details of the investigation, saying only that investigators believe several o
f the suspects charged in the case may have been acquainted with residents of the home.

The incident was the fourth homicide in Pearl River County this year, authorities said.

POPLARVILLE - The Pearl River County Sheriff's Departmen
t arrested two of three suspects in Friday's alleged home invasion at 125 Ed Ried Rd.

The third suspect, 38-year old Arthur Joshua, 212 South Wells Town Rd., Lumberton, was the person found murdered in a wooded area near the home.

Judge Nell Cowart denied bond Monday afternoon for 22-year old Shannon Landry of 2432 Purvis Columbia Rd., Purvis, and 35-year old Robert Grant of 72 Nonney Rd., Lumberton, in Justice Court. Both people were charged with armed robbery and murder.

Chief Deputy Aaron Russell said Grant is being held at the Pearl River County Jail. Landry was
returned to Lamar County after the probable cause hearing to face unrelated misdemeanor charges.

Officials with the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department, Lamar C
ounty Sherif
f's Department and Lumberton Police Department are investigating the home invasion, armed robbery and murder. They also are investigating the past dealings of the victims of the robbery and suspects.

Russell said the suspects knew the victims
and had been to the residence before.

Cowart set a preliminary hearing for both suspects on Tuesday, July 27 at 1 p.m. in Poplarville.

Sheriff Joe Stuart said Joshua was the fourth person murdered in Pearl River County since January.
