University Police arrested three Columbia men in the mugging last week of a University of Missouri student on the Francis Quadrangle.

Stafford D. Lambert,
19, Michael J. Zellmann, 21, and Demetrius O. Edwards, 18, each were arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said in a news release. All three men remained last night at the Boone County Jail. No bonds were set.

Weimer did not release any details of the arrests, citing the ongoing investigation.

A 21-year-old man told MU police he was mugged at about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday by three black men.

The victim told officers that one man approached him from behind and pulled him to the ground and that the other two assailants kicked him, rifled through his backpack and stole his cell phone and wallet.

The attack occurred between Engineering Building East and Switzler Hall, police said.

Boone County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Hicks recommended a four-year prison sentence but deferred to the court whether Zellman should be placed on probation. Circuit Judge Gene Hamilton scheduled sentencing March 23, asking that a sentencing investigation be completed before then
