1:34 a.m. CDT October 19, 2015
WAUSAU — A Wausau man has been convicted of three charges stemming from accusations that he sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl in 2014.
A jury at marathon County Circuit Court deliberated Thursday and Friday before finding Christopher Burns, 41, guilty on Friday of two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of child enticement with sexual contact, according to court documents.
A first-degree sexual assault of a child conviction carries a minimum mandatory 25 years of incarceration, according to Wisconsin state statutes.
A Wausau police officer was sent to a home on the city's east side in October 2014 in response to a sexual assault complaint, according to court documents. The officer learned that a 6-year-old had told an adult that Burns had sexual contact with her.
Burns was accused of making the first-grader stay up after everyone else had gone to bed and then having sexual contact with her in the bathroom, according to court documents.
