CHICAGO -- Two young sisters reportedly fed themselves, dressed by themselves and got themselves to school for 10 days in Woodstock.
Suburban police say the two were allegedly left home alone by their mother who left the state.<b

Both the Department of Children and Family Services and the Woodstock Police use the age of 14 as a guideline for when children are old enough to be left a
lone, reported NBC5's Charlie Wojciechowski.
The two girls in this case were 11 and 8 years old.
The girls
were reportedly doing fine Wednesday night, but their mother was in jail, Wojciechowski said. Gates is charged with child abandonment and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Neighbors say it wasn't uncommon to see Ebony Gates' two children playing in a neighborhood park or walking through the halls of their Woodstock apartment complex. But when one concerned neighbor didn't see the 28-year-old single mother for more than a week, she called Woodstock police.
Gates is suspected of leaving her two daughters alone for 10 days while she traveled to Memphis, Tenn., to look for a new place to live.
She was contacted by police while she was still in Memphis
and returned to Woodstock the next day. Gates was arrested when she tried to claim her children.
The two girls remained in a DCFS foster home Wednesday.
