Suspect tries to eat the evidence

An Ellenwood woman arrested for trying to buy a high-end television with a phony check was able to slip out of her handcuffs, grab the bogus check and eat it, police said Friday.

The 34-year-old suspect was put in the back seat of a patrol car, and during the ride to jail, Dunnington, whom Trainor described as a "very tiny woman," slipped her hands out of the cuffs, reac
hed into the front seat of the car and grabbed the check and ID card, then began eating the check.
"The officer stopped the car when he realized what was going on, and he found several very small pieces [of the check] in the backseat," Trainor said.
He also found the ID card, which Dunnington had folded up "to get rid of somehow," Trainor said.
Luckily for police and prosecutors --but not so luckily for Dunnington --the officer had made a copy of the check before leaving the store, and the copy remained intact.

g forgery, identity fraud and theft by deception counts, Dunnington's patrol car snack earned her additional charges of destroying evidence and obstruction of a police officer.
