It’s a “serious problem” if Gonzalo Lira had been jailed simply for criticizing the Kiev government, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO said

Elon Musk has reached out to both US President Joe Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky, regarding the status of Gonzalo Lira, a US-Chilean journalist and critic of the Kiev government. Lira has been detained in Ukraine since the summer, prompting Musk’s engagement on the matter.

On Saturday, US political commenter Tucker Carlson published an interview on X (formerly Twitter) with Lira’s father, who said that his son is currently awaiting trial in Ukraine “because he was exercising his right of freedom of speech.”

According to Gonzalo Lira Senior, the staff of the local US embassy “haven’t done a thing” for the detained American passport holder, who is being defended by a court-appointed Ukrainian lawyer with no knowledge of the English language.

In his comment on the interview, Musk wondered how it was possible that “an American citizen is in prison in Ukraine after we sent over a $100 billion” to support Kiev amid its conflict with Russia.

“Is there more to this story than simply criticizing Zelensky? If that’s all it is, then we have serious problem here,” the SpaceX and Tesla CEO posted on X.

Carlson responded to the message by saying that the “crime” committed by Lira, who is an author of several novels and a filmmaker with Hollywood experience, was “saying unapproved things.”

On Sunday, Musk also addressed the issue on his own account, writing, “What is the status of this American journalist, Joe Biden?”

The post included a link to Lira’s last post on X before his third arrest by Ukrainian authorities in early August. In his message, the journalist said that he was about to cross from Ukraine into Hungary in search of political asylum. “Either I’ll cross the border and make it to safety, or I’ll be disappeared by the Kiev regime,” he warned his followers.

When addressed on the issue by the Strana.ua news outlet, a spokesman for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed that Lira had been arrested on the border with Hungary. The US journalist is currently in custody in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkov, with a court scheduled to consider his case on December 12 and 21, he added.

According to the spokesman, Lira violated Ukrainian law as he “systematically justified” Russia’s actions in Ukraine and “disseminated pro-Russian views on his social media accounts.” In his videos he “also claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were shelling their own territory, while a neo-Nazi regime reigned in Ukraine,” the spokesman stated.

Lira, who had been living in Kharkov since the mid-2010s, was actively covering Russia’s military operation in the country from its very start in February 2022. He said that it was a tragedy for Ukraine and its people, whom he loved, but stressed that the conflict had been provoked by the Zelensky government and its Western backers. Among other things, the journalist argued that Ukraine had no chance of winning against Russia and predicted the failure of the sanctions against Moscow.

He also decried attempts by Western media to portray Ukraine as a democracy, speaking about corruption in the government and publishing a list of Zelensky’s opponents who, he claimed, had been “disappeared” by the Kiev authorities.

Lira was first arrested by the SBU in April 2022 but released without charges a week later as the story made international headlines.

The 55-year-old continued his reporting and, in May, was again taken into custody and accused of “producing and distributing materials justifying the armed aggression” by Russia against Ukraine.

On August 1, the journalist briefly reemerged on social media, posting several videos in which he said that he had been released on bail and was trying to flee to neighboring Hungary in order to avoid a lengthy prison term. He hasn’t been heard from since then.

Biden's Weaponized Gov't Attacks Against Elon Musk Is Tyranny

BY TYLER DURDEN

Link: https://www.zerohedge.com/political/bidens-weaponized-govt-attacks-against-elon-musk-tyranny/

On a recent episode of the All-In Podcast, hosts David Sacks, Jason Calacanis, Chamath Palihapitiya, and David Friedberg discussed the weaponization of federal agencies by the Biden administration against Elon Musk.
"They've now weaponized multiple federal agencies to go after Elon on these cases that seem transparently trumped up," Sacks said.
Musk, an outspoken critic of President Biden, has seen an increasing number of banana republic-style weaponization tactics by the administration against his companies, from Tesla to SpaceX, this year.
Sacks listed several cases, including when the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission went after Musk in August for allegedly using Tesla funds to construct a 'glass house.' The DoJ also went after Tesla for not hiring enough refugees, and, more recently, the Federal Communications Commission rejected SpaceX's Starlink from receiving a $855 million rural internet subsidy.
Palihapitiya asked: "Do you think this is politically motivated harassment of Elon by the Biden administration?"
Calacanis chimed in: "100%".
Calacanis added that Tesla was not invited to the EV summit at the White House earlier this month. He noted, "You just take Biden at his actions - if you don't invite Elon to the EV summit - it's obvious he [the president] has got it in for this guy [Musk]."
"And now it's obvious he [Biden] has told people to investigate him [Musk] and harass him - it's obvious."
Palihapitiya asked, "Why doesn't Biden like him [Musk]"?
Calacanis pointed out the obvious answer: "Because he [Musk] is non-union - and sure, the freedom of speech things and Twitter doesn't help - but this [Musk's dislike of unions] predates Twitter."
"Biden is a union guy. He will not support non-union people. He is bought and sold by the unions."

It should become increasingly clear that progressive radicals in the White House are weaponizing every agency possible to attack political opponents. These are all signs of a tyrannical, out-of-control federal government.

Journalist Gonzalo Lira, an American citizen who was tortured and imprisoned in Ukraine for criticizing the Zelensky regime, died in a Ukrainian prison on Thursday night after being abandoned by his own government.

"Gonzalo Lira, Sr. says his son has died at 55 in a Ukrainian prison, where he was being held for the crime of criticizing the Zelensky and Biden governments," Tucker Carlson revealed Friday on X. "Gonzalo Lira was an American citizen, but the Biden administration clearly supported his imprisonment and torture. Several weeks ago we spoke to his father, who predicted his son would be killed."

"It is with great sadness I must announce that Gonzalo Lira passed away in a hospital according to his father, who has been fighting to get his son much-needed medical attention for the past weeks," Alex Rubinstein reported.

"Here is a hand-written note from Gonzalo which I received on January 4":
"I have had double pneumonia (both lungs) as well as pneumothorax and a very severe case of edema (swelling of the body). All this started in mid-October, but was ignored by the prison. They only admitted I had pneumonia at a Dec. 22 hearing. I am about to have a procedure to reduce the edema pressure in my lungs, which is causing me extreme shortness of breath, to the point of passing out after minimal activity, or even just talking for 2 minutes."
"I cannot accept the way my son has died. He was tortured, extorted, incommunicado for 8 months and 11 days and the US Embassy did nothing to help my son. The responsibility of this tragedy is the dictator Zelensky with the concurrence of a senile American President, Joe Biden," Gonzalo's father told Rubinstein.

"I have received an email from Gonzalo Lira's father. Gonzalo Lira is dead. He died in a hospital in Kharkiv between 11-12 pm Ukraine time yesterday January 11th, 2024," Kim Iversen reported.

"The US government allowed an American YouTuber to be arrested by Ukraine and neglected to the point of death for criticizing the war. That was his only crime. He did what many of us do and paid the ultimate price. Being a YouTuber shouldn't cost you your life @POTUS @SecBlinken."

Lira was abandoned by his own government and Antony Blinken's and Victoria Nuland's State Department.

The US sent tens of billions of dollars in aid and arms to Ukraine and could have easily gotten Lira released with enough pressure but instead Blinken and Nuland chose to let him die.

Lira last year predicted his plea for help from the US State Department would be ignored because as he put it, "I'm not a black lesbian druggie, or a transgender grifter."

Gonzalo Lira, Rest in Peace.

GOP House Committee Reveals Docs Of Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Targeting Musk’s X

Link: https://www.domigood.com/2024/04/gop-house-committee-reveals-docs-of.html/

[see vid at site link, above]

Dozens of decisions from a Brazilian Supreme Court Justice related to his targeting of Elon Musk’s social media platform X have been revealed.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes had barred X from making the decisions public, but the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee, as a result of committee subpoenas involving X, revealed the decisions in a 541-page staff report, according to the Associated Press.

“To comply with its obligations under U.S. law, X Corp. has responded to the Committee,” X stated earlier this week.
De Moraes had demanded permanent bans on at least 150 X profiles from elected officials and journalists, according to investigative journalist Michael Shellenberger, who added:
Given the dependence of elected leaders on social media, these demands for bans may constitute electoral interference. In one case, De Moraes demanded that all major social media platforms, including at least one, Twitter, which did not publish the offending material, ban a federal Congressman, Marcel Van Hattem. The TSE had claimed that Van Hattem had criticized the election results. Not only had Van Hattan’s video not been related to the elections, but it was also a criticism of the Labor Department. It was released one day before the election.

“Musk is indeed a very innovative businessman; he innovated with electric cars, he innovated with rockets and now he invented a new form of non-compliance of a court order, through an intermediary,” Carlos Affonso, director of the nonprofit Institute of Technology and Society, told the AP. “He said he would reveal the documents and he found someone to do this for him.”

“About 40 million Brazilians, or about 18% of the population, access X at least once per month, according to market research group eMarketer,” the AP noted.
After de Moraes ordered X to block the accounts earlier this month, Musk said he would defy the court’s order once his employees were in a “safe place” where they could not be arrested. De Moraes then issued a decision accusing Musk of obstruction of justice and incitement to crime. On April 13, X’s legal representative in Brazil informed de Moraes they would comply with all court orders.

Elon Musk Reveals Two Assassination Attempts in Past Seven Months

by Adan Salazar

Tesla CEO admits ‘two homicidal maniacs' have tried to target him and others.

Comes as Musk recently responded, "Guess I better beef up security!" to Alex Jones' interview with Tucker Carlson.

At least two efforts have been made to take the life of Elon Musk over the past year, the tech entrepreneur says.
Musk revealed the assassination attempts at a Tesla annual shareholder board meeting in response to an investor’s concerns over his wellbeing.

“In the context of being a shareholder, unlocking these values of optimists, we need you, and just, with all the global uncertainty, you’re so high-profile that I just want to make sure you’re doing everything to take care of yourself,” the investor told Musk.
Musk replied, “It is getting a little crazy these days.”
DNR6GUoy-image.png

“You know, like, to first approximation, the probability that a homicidal maniac will try to kill you is proportional to how many homicidal maniacs hear your name,” Musk continued, according to The-Express.com. “They hear my name a lot, and I’m like, ok, I’m on the list.”
https://www.infowarsstore.com/brain...Banner&utm_content=summerkickoffsalebannedbfu
Musk went on to describe how two deranged people had “aspirationally” attempted to kill him and others.
“We [Tesla] actually did have two homicidal maniacs in the last roughly seven months, come to aspirationally try to kill me and a bunch of other people, so it’s not just me, and there wasn’t an actual issue that they articulated — they were just, you know, in the homicidal maniac career.”
“I will endeavor to stay alive,” he added, saying he’s taking steps to protect himself like forgoing autographs.

The alarming revelation comes as Musk responded, “Guess I better beef up security!” to Alex Jones’ recent interview with Tucker Carlson, in which the pair discussed the danger Musk faces by challenging the NWO with his free speech platform X.

On Monday, social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, revealed the shocking rationale behind the recent ban imposed by communist Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
This explosive exposes de Moraes’s involvement in serious crimes and human rights violations, all under the guise of upholding “democracy.”
In a decision issued on August 18, de Moraes justified his orders to ban social media accounts and suppress dissenting voices by claiming that anyone attempting to expose him or his allies must be silenced in the name of “democracy.”

Last week, Moraes summoned Elon Musk directly on the social network, demanding he appoint a representative of the big tech company in Brazil. However, Musk did not comply. Amidst the case, Moraes ordered the blocking of Starlink accounts in Brazil—also owned by Musk—under the pretext of ensuring payment of fines levied against X.
The justice ordered Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency to be immediately notified and take all necessary steps to halt X’s operations in the country.
Moraes also issued orders to Apple and Google, given that their mobile devices run on iOS and Android operating systems. According to the justice, these companies must remove the X app from their stores.
Additionally, there are restrictions concerning VPN services. The Supreme Court justice’s ruling specifically mentioned Proton VPN, Express VPN, NordVPN, Surfshark, TOTALVPN, Atlas VPN, and Bitdefender VPN. De Moraes imposed fines of up to $8,874 a day for any user found using VPNs in Brazil.
“Today, we launch the daily data dump on the crimes – under *Brazilian* law – that fake “judge” Alexandre de Moraes has committed! He can block this platform in Brazil, but he can’t stop the whole world from knowing his illegal, shameful & hypocritical deeds. Karma’s a b*tch bro,” Must wrote.
“This platform does not seek to impose the laws of the United States on other countries – we obey the laws of that country in that country. The problem in Brazil is that [de Moraes] we were being told to break Brazilian laws and that we would be sanctioned if we told anyone about it!” Elon Musk wrote on X.
Musk added, “The more the people of Brazil learn from the [de Moraes], the worse it will get for him. He violated the constitution of Brazil repeatedly and egregiously, after swearing an oath to protect it. Nothing worse than an oathbreaker.”
According to the revelations from X, Justice de Moraes has taken extreme measures to silence those who dare to expose his illegal actions.
Read the revelations below:
In a decision issued on August 18, Alexandre de Moraes elaborated on the reasons for some of his illegal orders. In summary, he explains that anyone who seeks to expose him or his accomplices – in any way – must be silenced in the name of “democracy.”
Below, we focus on de Moraes’ charges against a sitting Brazilian Senator, Marcos do Val, based on do Val’s social media posts. For these “crimes,” de Moraes ordered platforms to silence Senator do Val by blocking all of his social media accounts, in violation of Articles 5 and 220 of the Brazilian Constitution.
De Moraes contends that Senator do Val committed a crime in the following (now-deleted) post by denouncing the Chief of the Brazilian Federal Police, Fabio Alvarez Shor, for acting as de Moraes’ henchman and violating Brazilians’ human rights on de Moraes’s orders.
Pointing out that De Moraes and the Brazilian police chief are engaging in human rights violations is now a crime in Brazil.
“Today I come to the public to denounce a serious problem that is affecting the integrity of our nation and the security of our citizens. It is the Federal Police chief, Fabio Alvarez Shor, who has acted as the foreman of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, committing serious violations against the Constitution and the human rights of Brazilians.
This delegate, hitherto unknown, has been hiding from social networks, but Brazil needs to know who is the executor of Alexandre de Moraes’ illegal orders. Shor has been raiding homes with illegal search warrants, pointing guns in the faces of children, and confiscating cell phones from those children. These actions are inhumane and unacceptable, and are being carried out under the false flag of the Federal Police, when in fact they are direct orders from Alexandre de Moraes, with the connivance of this cowardly delegate.
In addition, it is important to note that Fábio Alvarez Shor disappeared from social networks after the murder of Federal Police agent Wilton Tapajós, in 2012. At that time, Shor was also an agent and later became a police chief. He was a witness in the process, as he was involved in Operation Monte Carlo that investigated Carlinhos Cachoeira. After the crime, which occurred in 2012, and the fear that spread among the federal police officers of the operation, Shor completely disappeared from social networks in 2013, probably out of fear.
I want to take this opportunity to communicate to the press and the general public that the Federal Police is being used improperly. When it is said that the Federal Police determined, investigated, or indicted, it is actually Alexandre de Moraes who is behind it, with the consent of delegate Fábio Alvarez Shor. This delegate is already on the list of the International Criminal Court, and this was not for lack of warning. I have always warned that complying with illegal orders is, in itself, an illegality.
I have received complaints from members of the Federal Police themselves who can no longer bear to see so many injustices. They are beginning to expose the outrage they feel, not only at the fulfillment of the illegal orders, but at the additional evils this delegate imposes on patriots and innocent citizens. It is unfortunate that people dedicated to the protection and security of the country are being betrayed by those who should be its leaders.
Brazil, it’s time to make this delegate known. His name is already listed in the Organization of American States (OAS) and the International Criminal Court, and it will only be a matter of time before justice is served.
Below is a message I received from a group of outraged federal police officers:
‘This son of a bitch is police chief Fábio Alvarez Shor, who for years managed to remain anonymous, without photos on the internet. He is responsible for arresting innocent patriots and making thousands of children cry for their parents. He broke into the room of journalist Eustáquio’s daughter to take a child’s cell phone, and also indicted Bolsonaro. THIS COWARD HAS TO BECOME FAMOUS’
This is an outburst and a denunciation of a serious problem that can no longer be ignored. Brazil needs to know the truth and demand justice against those who abuse their power and violate the rights of citizens.”

De Moraes likewise considers it a crime for Senator do Val to have “reposted on his social network on ‘Instagram’ a video published by teenager Mariana Volf Pedro Eustaquio,” daughter of journalist Oswaldo Eustaquio Filho.
In the video, “children were filmed who would have been victims of Federal Police Delegate Fábio Alvarez Shor, for alleged abuses practiced when carrying out search and seizure warrants.”
According to De Moraes, the now-deleted post below from Senator Do Val was also a crime because it threatened to expose criminal conduct by members of the Brazilian Federal Police acting under the direction of Alexandre de Moraes.
“Friends and acquaintances of the Federal Police, I want to share with you a message of extreme importance about individual responsibility in complying with illegal orders.
Recently, in a conversation with the top leadership of the U.S. government, it was pointed out that, since the Nuremberg trials, it has been internationally recognized that individuals cannot exempt themselves from legal responsibility simply by claiming that they were following orders from above.
This principle reinforces that the defense of “was only following orders” has since not exempted individual responsibility for acts that violate human rights.
Federal police officers in Brazil need to be aware of this seriousness, which ranges from losing their passports to having assets seized and spending 22 years in a closed regime.
We are working together with other international human rights bodies and have already gathered the names of all the federal police officers who appear in each investigation: investigators, experts, agents and delegates who acted illegally when carrying out arrest, search and seizure orders, among other illegalities already reported and already included in our dossier.
Much is still to come to the detriment of those who violated human rights, whether they comply with an order from the superior or not.
The wealth of details we have about each member of the Federal Police who contributed to illegal actions is impressive. We know what processes they have worked on, what anti-constitutional decisions they have made, and what actions have infringed on human rights.
We have an extensive list of these police officers and they will all answer for their actions, as there is already sufficient evidence of the commission of crimes against human rights in all investigations. There is no more room for excuses such as: ‘I’m just following orders.’
I take this opportunity to thank you, on behalf of all the work that has been contributing for years both to us in the US and to Brazil.”

De Moraes also takes issue with the following now-deleted post from the Senator. De Moraes does not even contend the post is false. His complaint seems to be that the post embarrassed him and the Brazilian Federal Police.
“COMPLAINT – The security operation of the delegations of the G20 meeting, which will take place in Brazil in November, is threatened by lack of money. Remembering that it is the DIP/PF that is responsible for this security and is busy carrying out political operations at the behest of AM. Here is the document we got today.
Lastly, de Moraes considers it a crime for Senator do Val to say he would be “investigat[ing]” the Federal Police who carry out de Moraes’ orders, because Senator do Val’s references to an investigation were “intimidat[ing].” In Brazil today, directing intimidating words at those in power is a crime.
“STF has been investigating Federal Police since the beginning of the year!
The STF is investigating a group of federal police officers who worked in the previous government who “were only following orders”. As I have been saying that complying with illegal orders is also a crime as it is in our Constitution and in the Penal Code.
All the orders that the minister has demanded for the Federal Police to comply with are illegal. Whether for those who are in charge or for those who comply:
Today it is this group; tomorrow, it will be you.
The PGR was not in favor of the arrests of the operation, including a Federal Police officer who was escorting Bolsonaro, but the minister disregarded the PGR’s manifestation.
The illegalities that Minister Alexandre de Moraes has been accused of committing involve a series of controversial and allegedly `unconstitutional actions’.”
According to journalist Michael Shellenberger, Brazilians across the country are defying the authoritarian censorship demands imposed by Supreme Court Judge Moraes.
“Thousands of Brazilians are resisting the order by the Dictators Moraes and Lula. They include journalists and Senators from Left, Right, and center. And people in the federal capital, Brasilia, are able to access X without VPN. Moraes’ immoral censorship crusade is doomed,” Shellenberger wrote.
On September 7th, Brazilians are set to take to the streets in protest against the dictator Alexandre de Moraes for banning X and are calling for his impeachment.

Democrat-Appointed Judge Blocks Musk From Receiving Compensation Package Approved By Shareholders

Link: https://www.womensystems.com/2024/12/democrat-appointed-judge-blocks-musk.html/

Women System December 04, 2024

A Delaware judge blocked Tesla CEO Elon Musk from receiving a massive multibillion dollar compensation package this week that the company’s shareholders overwhelmingly approved for him.
The ruling from Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick of the Delaware Court of Chancery, who was appointed by Delaware Democrat Governor John Carney, comes after she struck down the same deal in January when she claimed in her ruling that the size of package was not fair. The company’s board of directors first approved the package for Musk in 2018.

After McCormick blocked the package earlier this year, 77% of the shareholders at Tesla voted in June to approve the compensation package for Musk a second time.
McCormick awarded the plaintiff’s attorneys $345 million in the case, equivalent to $17,692 per hour for the amount of time worked, because they had to face “some of the best law firms in the country, who put Plaintiff through their paces.”

Tesla said in a statement that they will appeal the ruling because the judge’s ruling sets a dangerous precedent in which judges, not shareholders, run companies in the state of Delaware.
“A Delaware judge just overruled a supermajority of shareholders who own Tesla and who voted twice to pay @elonmusk what he’s worth,” Tesla said in a statement on X. “The court’s decision is wrong, and we’re going to appeal.”

“This ruling, if not overturned, means that judges and plaintiffs’ lawyers run Delaware companies rather than their rightful owners – the shareholders,” the company added.

The size of the package has exploded since she first rejected the deal since the $50 billion in stock options that shareholders initially approved is now worth well over $100 billion because of the success that Tesla has had.
The New York Times noted that the package stipulated that Musk would only get the options “if Tesla’s stock price soared and its sales and earnings grew strongly.”
The Times, which has been critical of Musk, acknowledged that Musk beat naysayers who doubted that he could actually achieve the goals that were set out for him to be able to earn the package.

Judicial Watch FOIA Bombshell: How the Biden State Dept. Let YouTuber Gonzalo Lira Die in Ukrainian Prison

Gonzalo Lira and son in Kharkiv before the war

On Jan. 11, 2024 conservative US YouTuber Gonzalo Lira died in a Ukrainian prison, where he was held for the crime of criticizing the war, and the US and Ukrainian governments. Now, a FOIA request by Judicial Watch sheds stark light on the Biden Regime’s complete failure to stand up for a US political prisoner in a Ukrainian prison. The e-mails reveal the US Embassy was aware of threats to Gonzalo Lira’s life, which it considered “no rush.”
After Gonzalo Lira’s death, the Embassy was mostly concerned with spin control and how to “beef up press guidance” to address the question of “why didn’t the U.S. government do more to assist Mr. Lira?”

YouTuber Gonzalo Lira (aka “Coach Red Pill”) was arrested in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on May 1, 2023, by a heavily armed SWAT team of the Ukrainian SBU secret police for the crime of “justifying Russian aggression,” which translates as “criticizing the war and the government.” On July 6, he was released on bail and attempted to leave the country for Hungary on his motorcycle, posting a video on the way. On Aug. 1, he was rearrested and imprisoned in solitary confinement (SIZO) in Kharkiv.

Gonzalo Lira married a Ukrainian woman and moved to Ukraine in 2020, with whom he has two children. They later separated. When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2021, he found himself in the middle of a shooting war. In his videos, he frequently criticized the mainstream media, the Ukrainian and US governments, and specifically former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (2021-2024) Victoria Nuland.
Trump was Right: Study Shows Countless Lives Could Have Been Saved with Hydroxychloroquine

The Gateway Pundit filed a FOIA request on Jan. 15, 2024, four days after his death, for all communications concerning the death of Gonzalo Lira between Victoria Nuland and US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget A. Brink. Eleven months later, the State Department is stalling on this request and recently wrote that the request would not be completed until March 31, 2026. We have now applied for expedited processing due to the overwhelming public interest in this case, which involved the death of a US citizen held as a political prisoner in a country that has received $113 billion in US aid.
After our FOIA request, Secretary of State Antony Blinken suddenly announced the retirement of then-Acting Deputy SecState Victoria Nuland on March 5, surprising many. Ukraine policy architect Nuland was widely considered to be vying for the top job until the Lira case blew up. In September, Nuland joined the board of the Deep State front organization National Endowment for Democracy.
Meanwhile, Judicial Watch has filed a more general FOIA request pertaining to the case of Gonzalo Lira, which does not focus specifically on the communication between Nuland and Ambassador Brink.

The Department of State released 769 heavily redacted pages to Judicial Watch in May, October and November 2024. The Gateway Pundit has received these documents from Judicial Watch and can report exclusively on the State Department’s egregious failure to save Gonzalo Lira’s life and subsequent attempts at spin.
brink1.jpg

The documents show that the U.S. Embassy became aware of Gonzalo Lira’s arrest on May 11 via mail from the Ukrainian secret police SBU dates May 2. “He is formally charged with a violation of Article 436-2 part of the (Ukrainian) criminal code “Justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants.” Mr. Lira operates a YouTube site where he posts numerous videos that criticize the Ukrainian and U.S. governments, to whom he attributes blame for the war in Ukraine”, an Embassy staffer wrote to Ambassador Bridget Brink Aug. 3, with a full timeline of events to date (see photos).
brink2.jpg

brink3.jpg

After Lira’s attempt to leave the country for Hungary and his rearrest on July 31, the US Embassy American Citizen Services (ACS) Department spoke to him on the phone on August 4, 2023, and “tried to ask Mr. Lira about his mental and physical health. Mr. Lira repeatedly interrupted this inquiry with extended monologues about threats to his life and safety, believing the Ukrainian government would actively conspire to have him killed by inmates in prison”, an embassy e-mail reads. The names of the embassy personnel are redacted. (Emphasis added by TGP.)

The emails make it clear the embassy did not attach a high priority to helping Lira and referred to his attempt to escape alive as “his attempt to abscond to Hungary.” There is no evidence the US embassy took any steps to allow Gonzalo Lira to leave the country, which ultimately took his life until Jan. 82024, when it was too late.
A subsequent August 4 e-mail noted that “he (name redacted – possibly Lira’s public defender) requested that the U.S. Embassy reengage with local authorities regarding Mr. Lira’s case, which had decreased in frequency when Mr. Lira was released on bail.”
The e-mails show how the State Department willfully parroted the false charges of being a “Russian agent” that cost Gonzalo Lira’s life.

On Aug. 3, American Citizen Services (ACS) Kiev wrote to ACS offices in Hungary, Moldavia, Slovakia, and Romania – the general direction in which Gonzalo Lira was attempting to flee Ukraine “as a heads up from Kyiv (sic) ACS, most relevantly to Hungary, but potentially to all our neighbors. Gonzalo Lira is a U.S. citizen and outspoken pro-Putin blogger previously arrested in Ukraine on charges related to wartime propaganda. Mr. Lira is very popular among certain niche populations, (That’s usTGP editor’s note) and our public inbox is full of his followers. (We do not engage or respond.) After his arraignment, the Ukrainian government released him on bail without an ankle monitor and gave him back both his motorcycle and passport. He’s been a bit of a headache to the Ukrainian government, so we suspect they’re hoping he’ll quietly disappear from the country.
The American Citizen Services department in Kiev thus agreed with Gonzalo Lira’s estimation of his July 31 video on the way to the border: that he had been given a wink by Ukrainian authorities to go ahead and jump bail to leave the country.
Amazingly, no one at American Citizen Services Kiev seems to have had any interest in assisting this American Citizen in leaving the war-torn country that was out to get him.

Contradicting his hunch the Ukrainians may want to get rid of him, Lira was arrested at the Hungarian border and sent back to prison in Kharkiv, where ACS spoke with his lawyer on August 21 ahead of his hearing on August 22.
Lira’s lawyer “commented that he believes the court does not think that the US embassy is interested enough in Lira’s case and that this might impact the court’s decision. However, Kyiv (sic) ACS believes (the lawyer’s) characterization is predicated on his desire to use the U.S. Embassy as a part of his defense strategy by over-emphasizing our role. Kyiv ACS plans to attend tomorrow’s hearing and will follow up to report the events of the day.”

After the hearing on August 23, the Embassy noted that Lira’s lawyer “did not notice any visible signs of physical abuse from this latest detention. He requested that the U.S. Embassy reengage with local authorities regarding Mr. Lira’s case.”

There is no indication the U.S. Embassy did so in any meaningful way in the e-mails.
Speaking to Tucker Carlson, Gonzalo Lira’s father claimed Lira was tortured in prison in Kharkiv by inmates at the behest of the authorities in the Fall of 2023.
In November 2024, Ukrainian opposition lawmaker Alexander Dubinsky claimed he had irrefutable proof that Gonzalo Lira was murdered by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), TASS reported.

“We have come into possession of irrefutable proof that American citizen and blogger Gonzalo Lira was tortured in the Kharkov detention facility. He was beaten in the same way I was in the Kiev detention facility – he was taken to a cell, in putrid condition, where they extorted money from him. When he made this public, he was killed,” Dubinsky said on his Telegram channel.
Dubinsky claimed Lira’s captors broke the reporter’s ribs and threatened to gouge his eye out with a toothpick, TASS reported.
In December, Lira was scheduled to have another hearing as public interest began ramping up due to the Tucker Carlson interview. The Gateway Pundit began directing inquiries about Gonzalo Lira’s well-being and their efforts to secure his release at this time. These e-mails from The Gateway Pundit are also included in the Judicial Watch FOIA release.

A Dec. 6, 2023 e-mail from the U.S. Embassy Kiev ahead of Lira’s Dec. 21 hearing reads:
“On December 6, Kyiv (sic) ACS had an hourlong virtual visit with U.S.-Chilean dual citizen Gonzalo Lira”, the Embassy wrote, noting that “Mr. Lira was agitated and uncooperative throughout the conversation, often berating and threatening ACS… He spoke about his chronic heart issues and requested that the Embassy assist in getting him access to his personal e-mail…
Press. Mr. Lira explained that representatives of Tucker Carlson have attempted to contact him and his family for interviews. He demanded that the Embassy assist with scheduling. ACS offered to relay a request for more frequent contact to his attorney, but we do not intend further action for his request to organize media interviews.

Allegations against the U.S. government. Mr. Lira accused the U.S. government of (1) conspiring with the Ukrainian government to allow him to die in prison; (2) hindering progress in his criminal case; (3) obstructing his access to the Chilean embassy; and (4) failing to advocate for his release due to discrimination. Kyiv ACS rejects these allegations.
Threats to U.S. government officials. Mr. Lira claimed that he had provided the names of Kyiv ACS officers to third parties, who have doxxed these officials. (Our cursory online searches have not corroborated this claim.) Throughout the conversation, he made therats against numerous other U.S. government officials in the Administration and the State Department, including unspecified harm as well as litigation for unspecified claims.
Prosecution. Mr. Lira accused the Ukrainian government of prosecutorial misconduct. He believes the court-appointed translator to be “incompetent” and unable to capture the nuances of his allegedly seditious statements. ACS assured Mr. Lira that we will raise these issues with his attorney.”

As Lira responded with increasing anger and fear for his life, the U.S. Embassy appears to have done nothing to intervene on his behalf, instead responding haughtily and defensively:
“This visit does not sound pleasant and I don’t think anyone deserves to hear this garbage (yes, garbage)”, an unnamed Embassy official wrote in response on Dec. 6. “Question – What were the exact nature of the threats…? Justification – we of course want to provide consular services, but this should not come at the cost of being threatened and having colleagues’ (personal information) out there.”
“No need to answer now, no rush,” the same unnamed official wrote later that day.
