Carthage Police Suspect Sexual Assault At Healthcare Center
Carthage police say a man sexually assaulted a patient here at the Carthage Healthcare Center on May 6th. A week later they arrested Charles Faulkner, a janitor at the facility. Investigators say the victim was a 41 year old resident at center.
"It was alleged that the sexual assault occurred in her room at the nursing home," says Jim Vanover with Carthage police.
According to the initial report Faulkner allegedly forced the victim to perform oral sex. Carthage police say cases like these are especially troubling.
"The ones we always seem to work the hardest on are the old folks, and handicapped people

and small children. You know people that really can't help themselves, and I think we try hardest on thos
e," says Vanover. And police say, there's also another thread binding cases like these together.
"Most of the time they are such an easy victim, an adult its a little bit harder to talk into these things, and alot of the times these folks are talked into these things. And it ends up being a sexual assault," he says. The Carthage Healthcare Center often takes care of patients with dementia or alzheimer's. The center released a written statement about the ongoing investigation. It states "the center will continue to assist these organizations in response to this incident."
