A man wanted in the shooting death of dad the day before Father’s Day was taken into custody in Walker County Thursday.
Jermaine Holiday, 41, is charged with murder in the June 17 slaying of 71-year-old Eugene Holiday.
Officers were dispatched just after 1 p.m. that Saturday to a residence in the 4700 block of Avenue T.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said West Precinct officers arrived to find the victim unresponsive inside. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Holiday dead on the scene.
Fitzgerald said it appears the deadly shooting stemmed from a dispute between the victim and his adult son. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
At least one other person was inside the home at the time of the slaying but no one else is injured.
On Thursday afternoon, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, a resident saw a man walking out of the woods line on Sipsey Road. Authorities said the suspect had a second home in Walker County.
Deputies went to the home and locked it down until backup could arrive.
The SWAT team and the sheriff’s Aviation Division responded to take over the search of the residence and surrounding area. Tactical deputies deployed gas into the home.
Jermaine Holiday quickly surrendered.
He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 5:20 p.m. and is being held without bond.
