Man linked to two other drug suspects

SANDPOINT -- A third suspect has been charged in connection with an apparent cocaine trafficking operation in Bonner County.

Martin Osuna Samaniego was extradited from Cal
fornia earlier this week to face a coke-dealing charge.

Samaniego appeared in magistrate court on Tuesday via video link from the county jail to hear the charge read against him. Judge Debra He
ise se
t the man's bail at $50,000 and appointed a public defender to represent him.

Samaniego apparently does not speak English. Lee Peterson, a courthouse security guard who is fluent in Spanish, acted as an interp
reter during Tuesday's brief hearing.

Another hearing to determine if enough evidence exists to try Samaniego on the felony charge set for June 30.

Charging documents allege Samaniego, 26, possessed more than 28 grams of cocaine on March 31. Additional information about the allegations remains sealed from public view, an indication that the scope of the investigation could broaden to include more suspects.

However, the charge against Samaniego coincides with the arrest of Joshua Ryan Shinskie, a 21-year-old Greenacres, Wash. resident. Shinskie allegedly po
ssessed 169 grams of cocaine on March 31.

A few weeks later, David Martin Kirkland, a snowboard instructor on Schweitzer Mountain was arrested on a cocaine conspiracy charge for alleged
ly arrangi
ng a drug deal. One of Kirkland's suspected drug contacts was identified in court records as Shinskie.

Deputy Prosecutor Jim Stow has declined to comment on the Shinskie and Kirkland cases on grounds the investigation is ongoing.
