High unemployment and 'ghettoisation' have led to demands for more inclusive recruitment policies.
France today almost compares with the situation in the US during the 1960s that led to the eruption of race riots. We are an odd society. It is a country which proclaims liberty and equality and solidarity. But it is a France that has been constructed for the whites,(thank god)* not for the minorties.
Stark statistics underpin this opinion. Last year, the Institut Montaigne, a Pairs-based policy institute, estimated that unemployment among French people originating from Africa approached 30 per cent, more than twice the national average.
Researchers replying to 258 job advertisements with identical CVs received 75 responses when using a "traditional" French name and just
14 responses when using an Arab name.
The Institut Mont
aigne has drawn up a Charter of diversity that has since been adopted by several leading companies. "Positive discrimination is the only means to revitalise society" it says.
