Prospective Twitter owner responds to further criticism.

Prospective new Twitter owner Elon Musk says part of the reason for free speech being in peril is that the Democratic Party “has been hijacked by extremists.”

The billionaire has continued to respond to the fallout from his $44 billion dollar purchase of the company via the social media network.

On Thursday, Musk tweeted a diagram showing how the Overton Window has been dragged so far left, that people who not so long ago considered themselves liberals are now being lumped in with conservatives as “bigots.”

Critics responded by claiming that voting records show Republicans have moved further right.

It's true that on aggregate, the right has moved more to the extreme than the left in Washington. But the small group on the far left has become very *culturally* powerful & out of fear, the rest of the left has often allowed them to speak (and make policies) for the whole left.
— Tim Urban (@waitbutwhy) April 29, 2022

However, as Tim Urban explained, a fringe and noisy extremist minority on the left “has become very *culturally* powerful & out of fear, the rest of the left has often allowed them to speak (and make policies) for the whole left.”

“So even though the left hasn’t moved that far left (as is shown by voting results), the left is in a sense being held hostage by their extreme wing, making a lot of people who enthusiastically voted for Obama feel politically homeless today,” he added.

Musk responded to the discussion by asserting, “I strongly supported Obama for President, but today’s Democratic Party has been hijacked by extremists.”

The Tesla founder has previously described the woke cult as “one of the biggest threats to modern civilization.”

He has also labeled Joe Biden a “damp sock puppet,” asserting that the president “is treating the American public like fools.”

As we highlighted yesterday, the regime is so petrified of Musk turning Twitter into a true free speech platform, they have set up a special ‘disinformation unit’ under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security.

The unit will be run by Nina Jankowicz, a woman who previously promoted the false disinformation that the Hunter Biden laptop story was part of a fake Russian propaganda campaign.

Elizabeth Warren calls for new ‘rules’ to govern ‘unregulated’ social media amid Musk’s Twitter takeover

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is calling for new "rules" to govern "unregulated" social media amid Tesla CEO Elon Musk's takeover of largely liberal Twitter.
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tweeted this week that allowing Elon Musk to buy Twitter, and thus giving him "the power to decide how millions of people can communicate with each other" is "dangerous for our democracy…"

With all due respect to the ever-angry progressive senator, Musk’s purchase of Twitter is way, way down the list of assaults on our democracy that have been carried out in recent years; it barely deserves honorable mention.
Certainly, it doesn’t come close to the Department of Homeland Security creating a "Disinformation Governance Board," to be led by disinformation czar Nina Jankowitz. Jankowitz is credited with helping to spread the Russiagate hoax and to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story – two vastly consequential disinformation campaigns that arguably helped elect Joe Biden. This is the person meant to cleanse our national discourse of dishonesty?

NEW DISINFORMATION GOVERNANCE BOARD BETTER SUITED FOR DICTATORSHIPS: GABBARD

The very idea that the federal government could establish a group purportedly to craft the nation’s dialogue on "irregular migration" and combat Russian propaganda, especially targeting "minority communities," according to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, is terrifying. Does the attention to minority communities reflect Biden’s declining popularity with Blacks and Hispanics? Will the DHS board craft messages propping up Democrats’ standing with communities angry about crime in their neighborhoods and crushing inflation?

This Orwellian creation is not the first or even worse attack on our democracy in recent years. Much more significant was President Obama conspiring with our law enforcement and intelligence agencies to spy on President Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s bogus narrative about collusion between Trump and Vladimir Putin that undermined a sitting president.
Or, how about Democrats changing voting rules in numerous states before the 2020 election, purportedly to safeguard against COVID-19 outbreaks, but actually to improve their party’s chances of winning?

For instance, Pennsylvania’s state legislature changed voting laws before the election to allow no-excuse mail-in voting and the use of drop boxes, as well as other changes helpful to Democrats. The measure, Act 77, was passed in 2019 and has now been ruled unconstitutional by the Commonwealth Court.
Biden administration forms 'disinformation governance board'Video
Surely last-minute changes in voting procedures that favor one party over another threaten our democracy. As would Democrats’ insistent push for a federal takeover of voting rules, which would essentially ban voter IDs, mandate the use of mail-in voting and drop-boxes nation-wide and put the feds in charge of drawing voter districts.

PIRRO RIPS NEW ‘DISINFO BOARD': CREATED FASTER THAN THE AFGHAN WITHDRAWAL

Given the ability of liberal activist groups, including the teachers’ unions, to field large groups to harvest votes and create mischief, such practices constitute a serious threat to our democracy.
A threat, by the way, documented by Dinesh D’Souza’s movie "2000 Mules," in which the filmmaker shows groups of "mules" scooping up ballots from activist organizations during the 2020 election and jamming them into numerous drop boxes under cover of darkness.
Is Elizabeth Warren running for president?Video
True the Vote, a group working to protect election integrity, tracked the activity by the so-called mules and determined that the effort might have produced tens of thousands of votes – possibly more – enough to change the outcomes in some swing states.

We cannot go backwards; Joe Biden is our president today. But D’Souza’s video makes it clear: such activities imperil honest elections and cannot be allowed to happen again.
Democrats are despondent that they cannot pass their proposed voting laws because they have only a one-vote advantage in the Senate and would need 60 votes to enact these measures. Their response? Eliminate the filibuster, of course, and allow the bills to pass via a simple majority.
Who has signed onto that change? None other than Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Senate filibuster remains intact after Manchin, Sinema vote with RepublicansVideo
So, Sen. Warren, you, too, appear to be a threat to our democracy. Not only do you want to eliminate the basis on which the Senate has operated since 1917, you have also called for the elimination of the Electoral College, which protects states’ rights and is enshrined in our Constitution. One of the hallmarks of our democracy.

Meanwhile, a billionaire who legitimately undermined our democracy has miraculously escaped Elizabeth Warren’s wrath. During the 2020 campaign, Mark Zuckerberg handed out $419.5 million to two nonprofits that funneled the money to local election officials for the purpose of increasing voter turnout and participation in districts friendly to Joe Biden.

An analysis by The Federalist shows Zuckerberg’s money "significantly increased Joe Biden’s vote margin in key swing states" and called the initiative "an acute threat to our republic." Republicans have charged that the spending by Facebook’s founder may have been illegal; some states, like Florida, have now banned the practice. From Elizabeth Warren? Nary a peep.
Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)
Nor has she voiced any objection to allowing 800,000 people who are in the country illegally to vote in local elections in New York City. Given the general dysfunction of the Big Apple, do we really think local officials will be able to prevent that very large number of people from voting in national elections? Doubtful.

Allowing non-citizens to vote would appear to be another undermining of our democracy, as is the unfettered flow of migrants entering our country illegally across our southern border. No border, no country, President Trump used to say, and who can disagree?

The People Behind DHS's Orwellian "Disinformation Governance Board"

A “Disinformation Governance Board” has just been created and is going to be run by the Department of Homeland Security. Their primary goal is going to be to “police” what is deemed to be “misinformation” or “disinformation.”

No clarification has been given as of yet as to what this policing will mean, but it has been pointed out that the creation of this new Disinformation Governance Board is going to have the full strength of the DHS behind it.
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said, “the goal is to bring the resources of (DHS) together to address this threat.”
Nina Jankowicz has been chosen to head up the new disinformation office as the executive director.

Nina Jankowicz

Nina Jankowicz
Jankowicz received her MA in Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. A full list of the staff at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University can be found here.
Some of the current faculty/staff members within the Walsh School of Foreign Service are:
Jankowicz also spent time previously working with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (also called the Wilson Institute) in the past as a disinformation fellow. A full listing of their staff can be found here.
Some of the current staff members, faculty, and associates at the Wilson Institute include:
  • Cynthia Arnson – Director of the Latin American Program
  • Shihoko Goto – Director for Geoeconomics and Indo-Pacific Enterprise/Deputy Director of the Asia Program
  • Duncan Wood – VP for Strategy and New Initiatives; Senior Advisor to the Mexico Instituted; Interim Director of the Global Europe Program
  • Lonnie Bunch III – Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution
She also previously worked with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry with the Fullbright-Clinton Public Policy Fellowship, where she offered advice and oversaw the Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute.
In addition to her past work history, Nina is also the author of two books: How to Lose the Information War: Russia, Fake News, and the Future of Conflict, published in 2020, and a book that was just published this month, How to Be a Woman Online: Surviving Abuse and Harassment, and How to Fight Back.

How to Lose the Information War

Within this book, Nina discusses what she learned during her time with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and Belarus as she worked to combat “Russian information warfare tactics.” The book examines five different nations and the policies they pushed to counter “misinformation” in what is claimed to be a fight for “the future of civil discourse and democracy, and the value of truth itself.”
(If you’re looking for information on how to starve the beast, check out our free QUICKSTART Guide.)

How to Be a Woman Online

Here, Nina says that toxic masculinity has poisoned the internet against women, particularly women who aren’t white. She argues from the standpoint that something needs to be done against these men to keep them from saying these things.
When interviewed by NPR about this book, Nina said, “And I shudder to think about if free speech absolutists were taking over more platforms, what that would look like for the marginalized communities all around the world…”
Nina went on within the interview to advocate for stronger consequences against men online who say things that are deemed to be wrong.
“…we frankly need law enforcement and our legislatures to do more as well,” Nina said. She later went on to add, “really any law enforcement of consequences against abusers would make such a big difference because part of the reason this happens right now is that hardly anything ever happens to the people who are levying the abuse.

The announcement

News about the new taxpayer-supported agency was released to the American public by Alejandro Mayorkas during the House Appropriations Subcommittee as the 2023 budget for the Department of Homeland Security was discussed.
This came about after Representative Lauren Underwood (?) asked Mayorkas what he was going to do to combat “misinformation campaigns” aimed at people who aren’t white.

Lauren Underwood
Underwood said that not only was disinformation a “huge threat to our homeland,” but that “foreign adversaries attempt to destabilize our elections by targeting people of color with disinformation campaigns.”
She went on to add, “A newer trend that we saw in the 2020 election and already in the 2022 midterms is that disinformation is being heavily targeted at Spanish-speaking voters, sparking and fueling conspiracy theories.”
“DHS and its components play a big role in addressing myths and disinformation in Spanish and other languages. Can you share what steps you’ve taken and what future plans you have to address Spanish-language myths and disinformation through a department-wide approach?”

Mayorkas' response was the reveal of the DGB.

He not only revealed that the DGB was in the process of being created but said that there were a number of other “different offices engaged in this critical effort,” one of which is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Alejandro Mayorkas
Rob Silvers, the Undersecretary of Policy, and Jennifer Gaskill are stated to be involved in heading up the new agency, in addition to Nina Janckowicz.

Soros & EU-Backed NGOs Demand Twitter Boycott

by RT

Organizations funded by European governments and George Soros say Musk’s goal of free speech will “toxify” the internet

A group of 26 NGOs, including some funded by European governments and billionaire financier George Soros, have called on Twitter’s top advertisers to boycott the platform if Elon Musk restores banned accounts and lifts its current restrictions on open expression.

Musk’s stated commitment to free speech, they argued, will lead to “disinformation, hate, and harassment.”

“Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized,” the groups wrote in a letter on Tuesday.

Praising Twitter’s content moderation policies, which critics have described as censorship, the liberal organizations warned that “Musk intends to steamroll those safeguards and provide a megaphone to extremists who traffic in disinformation, hate, and harassment.”

“Under the guise of ‘free speech,’ his vision will silence and endanger marginalized communities, and tear at the fraying fabric of democracy,” they continued.

Among the groups opposing Musk’s vision are the Black Lives Matter Global Network, Media Matters for America, Women’s March, the Center for Countering Digital Hate, and Access Now.

Powerful donors are behind these groups. Access Now, which says it fights against internet censorship but supports “content moderation,” has taken more than a million dollars from Soros’s Open Society Foundations since last March, as well as funding from the governments of Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Media Matters for America is funded by US Democratic Party megadonors and was founded by David Brock, a longtime Clinton family operative who has worked with Soros to elect Democrats. Soros has also funded a number of other organizations that signed the letter.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) is a pro-censorship NGO based in the UK, whose work as of late has focused on lobbying governments and tech firms to restrict vaccine-skeptic content online. The White House has leaned on the CCDH’s research to aid its crackdown on so-called “misinformation” about Covid-19.

Musk himself has called on his Twitter followers to investigate these “organizations that want to control your access to information,” declaring “sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

However, these are not the only powerful interests sounding the alarm over Musk’s purchase of Twitter. Microsoft co-founder and vaccine evangelist Bill Gates called on Wednesday for Musk to continue the platform’s moderation policies, specifically mentioning posts saying “vaccines kill people.”

Musk purchased Twitter last week for $44 billion. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO promised to rid the platform of spam and bot accounts, to make its algorithm public, and to promote free and open speech, which he has described as “the bedrock of a functioning democracy.”

Within days of Musk’s purchase, the White House announced the creation of a ‘Disinformation Governance Board,’ ridiculed by conservatives and free speech advocates as an Orwellian “Ministry of Truth.”

Fake Indian Elizabeth Warren on Friday said the Supreme Court will target interracial marriage next.
Democrat Senator Warren went ballistic after a draft opinion leaked showing the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v Wade.
Earlier this week the fake Indian melted down and screamed to reporters and pro-abortion protesters in front of the Supreme Court.
After she finished screaming, a visibly shaken Warren, 72, needed help from a Senate staffer to walk the few feet back to a waiting car where in a shaky voice she told reporters, “I am angry…angry, upset and determined.”

Warren continued her hysterical melt down on ABC’s “The View” on Friday and absurdly claimed the Supreme Court will target interracial marriage and contraception.
Warren argued that Justice Alito’s opinion on Roe v Wade opens the doors to for the Supreme Court to abolish interracial marriage and ban access to contraception.

The Guardian: Freeze Fox News Owner Rupert Murdoch’s Assets For Pushing ‘Kremlin Propaganda’

Observer columnist Nick Cohen acknowledges sanctioning Rupert Murdoch would be an "attack on free speech" but insists "the threat to freedom is minimal."

Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch should have his assets frozen for allowing Tucker Carlson to report both sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, so suggests Observer columnist Nick Cohen.

From The Guardian (Archive):

Fox News deals in Kremlin propaganda. So why not freeze Rupert Murdoch’s assets?
If NewsCorp’s owner were Russian, there would be no hesitation in applying sanctions
by Nick Cohen | Sat 7 May 2022
If the west could find the courage, it would order an immediate freeze of Rupert Murdoch’s assets. His Fox News presenters and Russia’s propagandists are so intermeshed that separating the two is as impossible as unbaking a cake.
On Russian state news, as on Fox, bawling ideologues scream threats then whine about their victimhood as they incite anger and self-pity in equal measures.
Cohen is an expert in that field.

The UK’s sanctions regulations include among the reasons for freezing an oligarch’s assets “obtaining a benefit from or supporting the Government of Russia”. The Biden White House promises to punish those “responsible for providing the support necessary to underpin Putin’s war on Ukraine”. On both interpretations, there is a plausible prosecution case for freezing the assets of Murdoch’s NewsCorp.
Because it is a media conglomerate, sanctions would be an attack on free speech. I say this plainly because so many writers and political actors pretend that they are not demanding censorship when that is precisely what they are doing. Nevertheless, in this case the threat to freedom is minimal. Murdoch would not be punished for revealing embarrassing truths about the west but for spreading demonstrable lies for a hostile foreign power.

Note, Cohen refuses to capitalize the West. It’s just one of the many ways he shows his utter contempt for us.

We’re now at the stage where the media is openly calling for ending free speech and sanctioning everyone who counters their narrative.

Stay Calm and Censor On: Elon Musk Summoned to Parliament to Answer for His Pledge to Restore Free Speech

I previously wrote about Hillary Clinton’s call on European countries to pass censorship laws to force social media companies like Twitter to regulate speech even after Elon Musk’s pledge to restore free speech to Twitter. Now the Parliament has called on Musk to testify and to explain his alarming pledge to restore free speech.
The Biden Administration’s Disinformation Governance Board head, Nina Jankowisz, previously called upon Great Britain to impose state censorship rules. That call has grown since Musk’s purchase. Until now, a unified front of corporate censors was able to maintain an extensive system of censorship with the encouragement of politicians and pundits, including Joe Biden and Democratic members.
The head of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee in the House of Commons, Conservative MP Julian Knight has assured her countrymen that they can stay calm and censor on. She issued a letter for Musk to appear before the committee to answer for his terrifying suggestion of free speech:

“At a time when social media companies face the prospect of tighter regulations around the world, we’re keen to learn more about how Mr Musk will balance his clear commitment to free speech with new obligations to protect Twitter’s users from online harms.”

Like the EU’s censorship plans under the Digital Services Act, the proposed Online Safety Bill would introduce state censorship through the purview of Ofcom (The Office of Communications), the broadcasting regulator in Britain. It would allow the company to fine firms up to ten percentof their global revenue should they violate ill-defined “harm” standards.
If passed, Clinton and others hope that the Europeans can replace corporate censorship with good old-fashioned state censorship. This includes confiscatory fines for anything deemed “grossly offensive.“ The bill would allow countries like Great Britain to impose censorship on the rest of the world.
The decline of free speech in the United Kingdom has long been a concern for free speech advocates (here and here and here and here and here and here and here and here). Once you start as a government to criminalize speech, you end up on a slippery slope of censorship. What constitutes hate speech or “malicious communications” remains a highly subjective matter and we have seen a steady expansion of prohibited terms and words and gestures. Even having “toxic ideologies” is now a crime.
Great Britain would now make censorship one of its greatest exports. To do so, they first have to stomp out advocates for free speech like Musk by threatening to bankrupt his company if it tries to restore free speech to the Internet.

HOW THE “MINISTRY OF TRUTH” CAN CENSOR YOU WITHOUT (TECHNICALLY) CENSORING YOU

When centralized authorities are responsible for sorting truth from lies, it creates a situation prone to abuse.
The Department of Homeland Security’s creation of a Disinformation Governance Board last week has a lot of people drawing comparisons to George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.
On CNN, Dana Bash pressed DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to address concerns that the board will restrict freedom of speech. Mayorkas said that the board will not monitor Americans.
The board does not have any operational authority or capability. What it will do is gather together best practices in addressing the threat of disinformation from foreign state adversaries, from the cartels, and disseminate those best practices to the operators that have been executing in addressing this threat for years.
If anyone can translate that from bureaucrat-speak to explain what specifically DHS does to “[address] the threat of disinformation,” I would appreciate it. Almost all of the initial reporting on the DGB lacked any specifics of what concrete powers the group will exercise to “counter,” “combat,” and “crackdown on” so-called disinformation.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume Mayorkas is telling the truth, that the DGB will not censor information it labels false. The problem is that it doesn’t matter. It could still be used to stifle free speech even if it doesn’t violate the First Amendment.
The government has several ways to control behavior other than officially and directly mandating or prohibiting it.
One example is funding that has strings attached. This is the subject of the book Purchasing Submission: Conditions, Power, and Freedom by Columbia University law professor Philip Hamburger. Though conditional funding is often legitimate, Hamburger explains how the federal government uses it as a loophole to go beyond its legal powers.
It works by using a carrot instead of a stick. The federal government offers money to a state or private entity on the condition that it does X — something that the federal government couldn’t legally do itself — or it threatens to remove existing funding unless this condition is met. Then, when the organization does X, the government got what it wanted without technically violating the Constitution.
Law professor Johnathan H. Adler summarizes in National Review:
Hamburger raises a particular alarm about “the growing use of conditions to control third parties.” Sometimes this occurs with conditional grants to states, which may induce state or local governments to adopt measures the federal government could never constitutionally impose itself. Unlike the federal government, states are not constrained by limited and enumerated powers, so there is ample incentive to encourage state enlistment in federal causes, such as land-use controls, aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, that might not pass muster if adopted as federal regulation of interstate commerce.
The government also uses this power to induce private institutions to require people under their control to do things “that no level of government could impose directly,” Adler explains. For example, this is how the government gets universities to enforce Title IX sexual assault hearings that lack due process, and how the Joe Biden administration extends its vaccine mandate to healthcare providers that accept Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
The government can also use the implied threat of regulations to influence private actors. This is what happened in the case of restrictions on comic books in 1954, the film rating system in 1968, and “explicit content” labels on music albums in 1985. Also, during the COVID Pandemic, the U.S. surgeon general urged social media companies to “stop online spread of health misinformation.”
It’s not hard to see how the government could use both of these influences to silence what it determines to be “disinformation” — especially when it has admitted to coordinating with social media companies to do so.
The threat of regulation is present, with politicians slamming big tech from both sides. We can only speculate what specific ways the government might use financial or other leverage, but when the state is connected to almost every area of society, opportunities are plenty, whether through schools or financial institutions or some other industry.
When centralized authorities, instead of individuals, are responsible for sorting truth from lies, this creates a situation prone to abuse. In the words of political scientist Yascha Mounk: “The real reason for free speech is not that all opinions have value or are worth airing. It’s that there is no individual or institution whom I trust to make the decision as to which opinions are worthless on my behalf. And nor should you.”

A senior engineer at Twitter has admitted the social media giant has a strong left-wing bias and they routinely censor conservatives.
Siru Murugesan was recorded saying the company culture is extremely far left where workers are 'commie as f**k' and they 'hate, hate, hate' Elon Musk's $44billion takeover.

In a shockingly frank conversation, filmed over several encounters, he said the firm 'does not believe in free speech' and even started to turn him left-wing when he joined.
His comments come amid a firestorm at Twitter as staff fear they will face the ax or be stopped from censoring certain content when the Tesla billionaire takes over.
Musk has vowed to return the platform to a safe space for users to post what they want as well as 'defeat the spam bots' and 'authenticate all humans'.
Meanwhile he fueled speculation he could be seeking to negotiate paying less for the social media giant as he told a Miami conference an agreement at a lower price wouldn't be 'out of the question'.

Elon Musk said his purchase of Twitter on Friday was 'temporarily on hold'. He has accused the company of a left-wing bias

Murugesan was filmed by a female Project Veritas journalist spilling the beans on the tech giant's left-wing agenda, including they censor right wing posts.
'Twitter does not believe in free speech,' he said, adding that his co-workers 'hated' Musk's $44 billion bid to take control of the company.
'They hate it,' he said. 'Oh my God. I'm at least like okay with it. But some of my colleagues are like super left, left, left, left, left.'
Asked how his co-workers responded to the news of Musk's buyout, Murugesan replied: 'They're like, 'this would be my last day if this happens'.'
Murugesan said Twitter's office politics were so left-leaning they shaped his own views, and changed him. Like I started working at Twitter and became left,' he said.
'I think it's just like the environment, like you're there and you become like this commie.' Murugesan said that right-wingers were openly censored.
'Ideologically, it does not make sense like, because we're actually censoring the right, and not the left,' he told the undercover reporter.
'So, everyone on the right wing will be like, 'bro, it's okay to stay, just gotta tolerate it.' 'The left will be like, no, I'm not gonna tolerate it. I need it censored or else I'm not gonna be on the platform.
'So, it does that on the right. It's true. There is bias. It is what it is today,' said Murugesan.
Musk himself has frequently complained about a left-wing bias on Twitter, noting that right-wing figures like Donald Trump and Steve Bannon are banned while extremists on the other side are allowed to remain.
Murugesan said 'a lot has changed' since Musk began the takeover process on April 25. He said employees were worried for their jobs, because his companies run differently to Twitter's 'socialist' workplace.
'You know, our jobs are at stake,' he said. 'He's a capitalist and we weren't really operating as capitalists, more like very socialist. Like we're all commie as f***.'

The engineer told the undercover reporter that many of his colleagues were up in arms at Musk's proposed takeover

Murugesan said the company's operating procedures were extremely lax.
'Essentially like everyone gets to do whatever they want, no one really cares about like [operating expenses], like capitalists, they care about numbers or care about how to make the business more efficient,' he said.
'But in Twitter, it's like mental health is everything, like if you are not feeling it, you can take a few days off. People have taken months off, they will come back.
'But you always like, like do your best at any time. And that's the culture and you know we'll run the business as much as possible. But at the same time, you know, like the profits weren't a lot.'
Murugesan said that many staffers had openly tried to thwart the takeover, worried in particular about Musk's promise to reinstate people like Trump.
Critics warn that it will see a surge in hate speech on the platform; supporters say it is an important move for free speech. 'We did all we could, to like revolt against it,' said Murugesan. 'A lot of employees revolted against it.
'But at the end of the day, [the] board of directors have the say, and then they acted on their best interests cause they didn't wanna get sued.

Leslie Berland, the chief marketing officer, read out questions submitted by Twitter staff

Leslie Berland, the chief marketing officer, read out questions submitted by Twitter staff

The day that Musk's takeover was announced - April 25 - Twitter employees warned of a 'mass exodus' of staff, with one participant at an 'All Hands' meeting describing the world's richest man as 'a person with questionable ethics'.
Staff were invited to the meeting via videolink, hosted by CEO Parag Agrawal and Bret Taylor, the chair of the board.
Questions submitted by staff during the 45-minute meeting were read out by the chief marketing officer, Leslie Berland.
One question asked, in another recording obtained by Project Veritas, was: 'How does the board and Mr Musk plan on dealing with a mass exodus considering the acquisition is by a person with questionable ethics?'
Taylor replied that 'one of the themes of today is continuity'.
He said: 'The question of attrition: As Parag stated, one of the themes of today is continuity, and ensuring that Parag and this leadership team continues to operate the business successfully on behalf of our users, on behalf of our customers, and that has obviously been a big topic of discussion at the board.
'And as I mentioned, an area that is important to Elon Musk as well, because of the importance of Twitter as a service.'
Agrawal said he had seen many questions about the process, about share schemes, and about working conditions in the future. He said much was still to be clarified.
He said he would try and arrange a staff forum with Musk, and said that he would remain at the company as CEO, at least until the deal was finalized.
'He wants Twitter to be a powerful, positive force in the world, just like all of us,' Agrawal said of Musk.
'He believes Twitter matters.'
He urged employees to 'operate Twitter as we always have,' adding that 'how we run the company, the decisions we make and the positive changes we drive — that will be on us, and under our control.'
Twitter employees are sharing their concerns in internal chatrooms, messages seen by the New York Post show.
'We're all going through the five stages of grief in cycles and everyone's nerves are frazzled,' one senior staff software engineer reportedly wrote on the company's internal Slack channel.
The staffer called Musk an 'a**hole,' and tried to console his colleagues.
'We're all spinning our wheels, and coming up with worst case scenarios (Trump returns! No more moderation!).
'The fact is that [Musk] has not talked about what he's planning on doing in any detail outside of broad sweeping statements that could be easily seen as hyperbolic showboating,' he added.
One site reliability engineer wrote that it was 'physically cringy watching Elon talk about free speech.'
A senior staff video engineer announced his plans to quit, saying: 'Not the place to say it perhaps, but I will not work for this company after the takeover.'
The employee unrest begun as soon as Musk's successful takeover was confirmed.
'I feel like im going to throw up..I rly don't wanna work for a company that is owned by Elon Musk,' one staffer said, according to New York Times reporter Talmon Smith.
Smith's source told him that it was 'absolutely insane' in the internal chat rooms.
Another Twitter employee reportedly complained: 'I don't rly know what I'm supposed to do…oh my god, my phone's been blowing up…We have a meeting about it at 5pm…the CEO is going to address everyone about it' (it=elon).
'I hate him, why does he even want this?'

Musk vowed to protect free speech on Twitter, 'defeat the spam bots' and 'authenticate all humans' as he welcomed the acquisition.
He also revealed he planned to 'enhance the product with new features' and 'make the algorithms open source to increase trust'.
But within the company, there was turmoil at the announcement.
'I feel like he's this petulant little boy and that he's doing this to troll…he doesn't know anything about our policies and what we do…his statement about our algo was f****** insane…
'Were just gonna let everyone run amok?…nobody knows,' the employee said, according to the New York Times.

Some Twitter staff were 'openly rebelling' against Musk, one observer noted, posting a screen shot of Twitter's official Github site and posting a public response entitled 'The Algorithm' - with zero code.
On Thursday, the internal unrest at Twitter continued, with Parag Agrawal, the CEO, announcing leadership changes and a hiring freeze.
On Friday morning, Musk threw his Twitter takeover bid into chaos by tweeting that the deal was 'temporarily on hold' while he investigated the prevalence of fake and spam accounts on the social media site.

Analysts as well as insiders widely believe that Musk's tweets on Friday were an attempt to gain leverage and negotiate a lower price for his takeover, which has been approved by Twitter's board but won't close for several months.
Even Donald Trump, commenting on his Truth Social platform on Friday, suggested that Musk is looking to negotiate a better deal to buy Twitter after agreeing to pay $54.20 per share.
The former US president said the only reason the Tesla CEO had not called off the Twitter deal yet was because of the $1 billion break-up fee.
'There is no way Elon Musk is going to buy Twitter at such a ridiculous price, especially since realizing it is a company largely based on BOTS or Spam Accounts,' Trump wrote as he added jabs at the rival social media company.
'If it weren't for the ridiculous Billion Dollar breakup fee, Elon would have already been long gone,' he added.

This week, Musk has also sparked fierce debate after saying he would allow Trump back on Twitter if and when he takes the reins, in line with his previous declarations that he planned to err on the side of free speech rather than bans and censorship.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he has no plan to go back to Twitter after he was removed from the platform following the January 6 Capitol riot.
Markets have plunged since the deal was approved on April 25, making Twitter's valuation under the terms seem ever richer in comparison to similar companies.
Musk's tweet on Friday claiming the deal was on hold had the effect of sending Twitter shares plunging, and boosting Tesla stock, which he is using as collateral to finance the deal, in effect putting Musk in a much stronger negotiating position.
The spread between the offer price and the value of Twitter shares had widened in recent days, implying less than a 50 percent chance of completion, as investors speculated that the downturn would prompt Musk to walk away or seek a lower price.
'Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users,' Musk told his more than 92 million Twitter followers on Friday morning.

'To find out, my team will do a random sample of 100 followers' of the microblogging site, Musk tweeted, inviting others to repeat the process and 'see what they discover.'
'If we collectively try to figure out the bot/duplicate user percentage, we can probably crowdsource a good answer.'
Musk tweeted he had 'relied upon the accuracy of Twitter's public filings' in reply to a follower who asked why he had not thought of this before offering to buy the company.
Under the terms of Musk's contract with Twitter, he is entitled to ask the company for information on its operations following the signing of the deal.
But this is meant to help him prepare for his ownership of Twitter, not to carry out due diligence and reopen negotiations.
Twitter is planning no immediate action against Musk as a result of Musk's comment, people familiar with the matter said.
The company considered the comment disparaging and a violation of the terms of their deal contract, but was encouraged by Musk subsequently tweeting he was committing to the acquisition, the sources added.
Musk came to Twitter's office for a meeting on May 6 as part of the transaction planning process, a Twitter spokesperson said.
Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal also weighed in, tweeting: 'While I expect the deal to close, we need to be prepared for all scenarios.'

Elon Musk: 'Reason for Inflation' is Gov't 'Printed a Zillion Amount of More Money Than It Had, Obviously'

Entrepreneur and business magnate Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said the "obvious reason" for inflation in the United States is that the federal government printed way too much money that it did not have to stimulate the economy, which increased demand but supply (goods and services) could not keep up -- thus, the prices went up.
Speaking at the All-In Summit by video on Monday, Musk said, "The obvious reason for inflation is that the government printed a zillion amount of more money than it had, obviously."

"So, it's like the government can't just, you know, issue checks far in excess of revenue without there being inflation, you know, velocity of money held constant," he said. "If the federal government writes checks, they never bounce. So that is effectively creation of more dollars."

"And if there are more dollars created than the increase in the goods and services across the economy, then you have inflation," he added, "again, velocity of money held constant."
"This is very basic, this is not super complicated," said Musk. "If the government could just issue massive amounts of money and deficits didn't matter, then why don't we just make the deficit 100 times bigger? The answer is you can't because it will basically turn the dollar into something that is worthless."

"Various countries have tried this experiment multiple times," said Musk. "It's not like, 'Oh, I wonder what will happen if this is done?' Have you seen Venezuela? Like the poor people of Venezuela are, you know, have been just run roughshod by their government."
He continued, "So, you can't just create money. The true economy is the output of goods and services. It is not money. It is literally the output of goods and services."

Elon Musk Asks Why DOJ Won’t Leak Epstein Client List: ‘Doesn’t That Seem Odd?’

Tesla CEO highlights systemic corruption at DOJ and mainstream media for refusing to prosecute anybody involved in Epstein and Maxwell's child sex trafficking network.

Elon Musk pondered on Twitter why the Department of Justice hasn’t leaked the client list of deceased pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO shared a meme of “Things I’ll Never See in My Life”, which included images of a dinosaur, a dragon, a unicorn, and the words “Epstein/Maxwell client list.”

“Only thing more remarkable than DOJ not leaking the list is that no one in the media cares,” Musk tweeted Saturday. “Doesn’t that seem odd?”

The tweet garnered over 354K likes as of Sunday.

The DOJ became notorious for leaking during former President Trump’s time in office, which was sycophantically disseminated by the mainstream media at every opportunity.

But as Musk noted, when it comes to the Epstein/Maxwell client list, both institutions are conspicuously silent and appear uninterested in getting to the truth.

“Sometimes I think my list of enemies is too short, so,” Musk added in a follow-up tweet, reminiscent of an ominous message he tweeted last month about dying under “mysterious circumstances.”

Maxwell, Epstein’s lover and confidante, was convicted last December of recruiting and grooming teenage girls to be sexually abused by Epstein. Her sentencing hearing is on June 28.

Musk also went on a tweet spree on Friday, poking fun at “Disney” chemtrails and highlighting Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten’s newfound disdain for cancel culture liberals.
