Two intruders shot a man who struggled with them during a home invasion in the East End early today, then shot another victim during a carjacking, police said.

Two masked men broke windows and forced their way into a house in the 700 block of 77th Street, between Canal and Avenue H, just after midnight. The 42-year-old homeowner was shot twice, once in the stomach and once in the chest, but he managed to cut at least
ne or possibly both of the intruders with a piece of broken glass, said Houston Police Department robbery investigation Roger Chappell.

The victim's pit bull also bit one of the intruders, Chappe

ll said. The homeowner is recovering at Ben Taub Hospital.

When they fled the home, they carjacked a motorist in the 7600 block of Avenue H to obtain a getaway vehicle, police said. The robbers shot the 54-year-old driver in the leg when he refused to hand over his wallet, Chappell said.

The wounded man was dragged from his car, and one of the robbers drove off in the vehicle, described as a tan 1991 Ford Taurus with dark tinted windows. The other robber was last seen running away on Canal Street.

The man who shot the motorist is described as a bald Hispanic in his early-to mid-20s, about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7inches tall, weighing 125 to 140 pounds. He has a tattoo on his upper right arm and suffered a cut to his forearm or shoulder.

His accomplice is described as a
black man in his mid 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall.
